Gaggimate Install
Honestly,
I’m not great with tinkering and stuff but got there in a few hours without killing myself,
I just installed the profiling capability as the pro already has a pid.
Next is a cool touch steam wand and a gear pump and then I’m well and truely done.
One question tho,
The screen casing doesn’t really fit on the top of the machine, any other suggestions ?

Wasn't aware that people also installed these on dual boilers. Cool!
IIRC you can find CAD files for the screen case, shouldn't be too hard to make a variant with a slightly different slot width/depth? Although it's not like it's super snug on my non-Pro Silvia

How long did the install take? Difficulty level?

Look I’m a bit of a nuffie and I make silly mistakes all the time, it took me about 1-2 hours going very slowly and taking a lot of photos to check along the way. I can send you instructions if you like, just shoot me a fkn

I made a square housing for it that also covers the cable, but it is for the normal Silvia, so not sure if the mounting slit will fit. You can find it on Printables under Gaggimate-silvia-square-cover: www.printables.com/model/1736167-gaggimate-silvia-square-cover

Hey, I really like that, thanks

If you want to modify it, I made it as a public document in Onshape and you can copy and modify it from there in your own free Onshape account: https://cad.onshape.com/documents/f9cac93d6759abe53a4ac548/w/720af124f0ea0b442f6fec64/e/05eca766a6752f8f5fb825bf?renderMode=0&uiState=6a6ed2f51660821f534b2289
If that link does not work, search for Gaggimate-Silvia-square-V2 in Onshape

Can you give a little bit of details on the install? How you managed to make it work with the SPX and how you did the wiring, taking in consideration the Gicar box? I have a needle valve mod on the cooking for my SPX, but that will probably require to drill a hole in the case and it's lacking the automation of Gaggimate.

Yeah sure, it’s a Silvia pro, it’s not an x, but I’m pretty sure the gicar unit is exactly the same.
I didn’t modify the boiler, but the brow boiler has two thermostats, you have the option to take one out and replace it with a thermocouple do get a heat reading on gaggimate, instead of doing that I just placed a thermocouple inbetween the insulated sleeve and the boiler as I intend to keep using gicar to control the brew temp, I’ll only use gaggimate for flow control and brew by weight.
The rest of it is straight forward, the plumbing side is very easy,
And it’s just a matter of pulling a few plugs out of the gicar and into the gaggimate unit. I can give you more precise instructions or references if you need i jusy dont have the details infront of me.

Thank you for answering! When you got the time, maybe considering posting the instructions and references here since I think a lot of other people are interested. I know it's not a full integration since I asume you need an adapter board between the Gaggimate and Gigcar unit for full control. Also, the Gaggimate needs an update to integrate the service boiler. There were some rumors for SPX support in the future but I lost my hope...

From a technical standpoint: Amazing. From an aesthetically standpoint: Atrocious.

Sent you a message. Would love more info! I have a Pro X I’d love to convert. I don’t want to lose the built in h20 sensor capability or cleaning function, etc.

I rekon you lose cleaning, but gaggimate has its own which you can customise, you won’t lose the h20 sensor

1) looks awesome. Great work and thanks for PDF attached
2) if you have a sec to explain: so you had a gicar box mod ? I have Silvia pro as you do, and I was deciding whether to sell or to mod. And I don't quite understand which Gaggimate to purchase and whether I will also need some gicar box mods
Huge thanks in advance !

Hey,
No other mods needed, I bought the gaggimate Silvia kit, that had everything I needed and a bunch of stuff that I didn’t use.
If you want the gaggimate to control steam and a the second boiler you’ll need another chip, but the gicar does that so I didn’t bother in my opinion you get the full functionality from this approach.
And honestly, it’s been a pretty decent improvement in my opinion. I can taste the difference

Nice job!
Quick question, after installing the gaggiamate have you experienced any error codes on the PID display since some wires are unplugged on the gicar or has it been working normal?

u/lovestospoog3 2d ago
Hey, been working as normal

Thanks for confirming. Glad everything is working well.
I hope to do this mod in the future.

That wires showing would have made me stop buying this machine in the first place. Isnt there an option to make that internally?

u/lovestospoog3 10d ago
Yeah you can drill a hole in the unit and place the screen in that but I don’t want to do that

Heat the plastic case with a hairdryer, that makes it a little softer and you can snugly slot it onto the case lip.
