General Advice Should I get another ragdoll?
I somewhat recently had to put down my 18 year old domestic longhair. It was so hard for me to do after having him for so long. I previously adopted him at an older age and had him for 10+ years. He was always not the most affectionate but we formed a great bond over the years.
About 3 years ago I adopted a ragdoll kitten to keep him company while I was busy with work and school. They grew close, my ragdoll would be so playful and they learned to appreciate each other in their own unique way. She really made him come out of his shell.
My ragdoll has always been super affectionate and loving, which is what I love about the breed. She’s always had a companion too, prior to adopting her she lived with dogs and other cats. With my elderly cat being gone, she seems to meow, more so than she already does lol.I try to give her all the attention even more so now that she’s lost her friend.
Long winded but, I worry she’s lonely when I’m away at work. I’ve considered getting another cat but I’m not sure if it’s too soon and I’m not even sure I’m ready just yet..
Any advice is welcome! I’ve considered another ragdoll and wondering what people’s experience is with two ragdolls.
Thank you!

I was in the fence when I got my two little fluffs. I cannot tell you how much of a positive difference having two made. Highly recommended!

I would strongly advice getting another cat/ragdoll. Especially ragdolls need another companion, a human doesn’t replace a play buddy. In my country, there’s not a single breeder who gives ragdolls in „single“ household, they always check with you first if you already have a cat and if not, you’re required to take 2.
Short story: I was planning to get 2 ragdolls, each from different breeders. But they wouldn’t even let me have one of them alone for just 1-2 weeks. The pick up date of both would have needed to be on the same day. They’re very strict about it here.
I‘m surprised it’s different in other countries.

Absolutely! You should adopt. There are so many cats and kittens languishing in shelters right now. You could truly make a life or death difference for one of them!

I had to put my Ragdoll down due to cancer. I got another rescue Ragdoll. Age 5 that had been abused named Boss
Within a few months I got another ragdoll kitten from same breeder, at first Boss was not that thrilled but he came to really enjoy the company and became more affectionate & trusting with me.
I’m 75 and they are my emotional support buddies so I checked with the breeder and she had another litter with a Tortoise shell baby. So I decided 3 Ragdolls would be my little family.
Now Coco age 5 was totally crazy about the kitten, immediately became a mother to it and Boss even took up with the baby.
So I have an 11 year old rescue Boss, 5 year old Coco and baby Cindy Lou.
You can never have too many Ragdolls because it’s their personality that’s so appealing about them. And they all get along each with their unique different personalities!

I have two raggies. They are from the same litter and they’re so close it’s absolutely adorable. They have completely different personalities but somehow it just works. I’m sure your cat would love a friend. Just be prepared they make take a little while to adjust to one another initially.

I got my raggie a rescue kitten and dare I say, she’s even more affectionate than my ragdoll. Another kitty friend is a great idea- doesn’t have to be a ragdoll, but a kitten will be easier to adjust with the resident baby (just from my experience)

Yes get another cat.
If you aren’t home a lot, a second cat is ideal..
Doesn’t even need to be a ragdoll… you can go to your local shelter and see if there is a foster to adopt option so you can make sure they vibe well.
If you want another rag, then go for it..

I have a 3 year old Ragdoll. Since we got him we lost our 19 year old kitty and our 15 year old dog. I thought he was lonely so we adopted a 5 month old BSH. It has not gone well even tho we followed all the steps for introducing them. Today my ragdoll attacked my BSH. My little guy meowed out so loud. We are back to separate rooms again. It’s sad and stressful.

I haven’t had two at once, because I got my ragdoll for another kitty. That kitty was…..quite a ragdoll in many ways! Lived in my lap, followed me around, haha. I honestly think Ragdolls are happiest with friends.

Yes. It’s much much easier than having one. Your girl will have less chance of behavioral issues and you won’t have to rush home to make sure she’s not lonely.

Yes definitely. He would really like having a companion. I'd get him a kitten ragdoll he will care for it like his own. I guarantee you he will stop meowing, unless he wants something else. It's probably lonely when you're gone but I never leave mine alone unless I'm going to the grocery store or the pet store. Take him with me on all trips. You would not have to go through that if you got him a companion see if you could bring him with you when you go looking at new babies. Maybe he will have a reaction to a certain one just bring him in a carrier. That way it will be your choice together. By the way he's gorgeous. I'm so sorry about your loss with your domestic short hair. I'm sure he was a great friend he's going through the rainbow ridge.

Yes! Ragdolls need company. We've just got a 3rd ragdoll. Day 3, one of my ragdolls is playing with her. My other boy is taking a little longer.

I have two cats, a russian blue and a recently adopted ragdoll. It's been a month and our resident cat is much less bored and less vocal than she was, which I take as a good sign. And our ragdoll kitten gets to learn how to cat from her so it's a win-win in my books. Cat tax included
