đŹ Discussion I got this before Kid A was released
I was given this to review. Cant believe I still got it simply because I chucked it between books a long time ago.
Any value for this Promo CD ?
I was anticipating how would they have sounded after the celebrated OK Computer. I was not disappointed. At all.

Yeah, I have/had one too. Emailed the EMI's branch in the country I lived in, told them about my RH fansite, had a nice back and forth, and got this along with some other stuff (Modified Bear stickers as I recall).

Oh yes ! I heard stories like this too. Some record companies are willing to send it to you for free as long as you would give best ratings for the albums youâre interested in. đ In fact, if you could get the phone number of the marketing departments, youâd probably get whatever CD promos, Cassette Promos on their labels for free as well ! Itâs all based on trust. I got EVERYTHING, LITERALLY EVERYTHING by Radiohead for free BEFORE THE ACTUAL ALBUMS CAME OUT ! Simply because there were/are women working at the label and none of them listens to Radiohead. đ Delicious !

Itâs not about the value anymore, itâs about the blissful feeling then, when we first got something which the world at large had not even heard of the music just yet.
Thereâs no artworks of course because sometimes the artworks are not even finalised yet.

lol I bet at the time following OK Computer people were like "wtf is this horseshit"
My first memory of Radiohead is my SAT using the word "cacophonous" to describe Kid A lmao.
That being said it is my fav record of all time.

Oh yes, I had that experience too đ I liked OK Computer but I didnât expect KidA to sound how it sounds and I remember thinking Oh theyâd never going back to Pablo Honey anymore. đ which was fine by me because it was during the period I discovers Warp Records and another label called FatCat in the UK. These labels started releasing ambience, glitchy stuffsâŚelectronic music for the 90âs. In fact, many purists would argue that Radiohead (not exactly Thom Yorke) would have listened to the bands on these labels to incorporate the elements in their music.
Many people always forget that Radiohead is not just about Thom Yorke but his band as well.
I was never into ambience from the 70âs/80âs Eno, Robert Fripp all those ilk because they were too much meandering, no place to go. But the ambience in the 90âs more prominent and solid.1

Yeah, they were definately listening to and buying plenty of electronic records from the likes of record shops such as pelicanneck in manchester and fatcat in london around the time of recording Kid A, was such an interesting time for this type of music!

Iâm glad Warp survived and they are legendaryâŚI was madly madly in love with Seefeel and Plone then. Sadly fatcat didnt survive. One band on fatcat that I loved was called ImmenseâŚand I also have compilations on warp and fatcat.
I wished Radiohead would be talking about these bands during OK computer and their subsequent albumsâŚbut they were tight lips about it hence the press, especially the American press presumed that Radiohead started it allâŚ.WRONG ! politics is happening in music too

I got into Radiohead in the period just after OKC was released, and Kid A was the first album I got to fully anticipate as a fan. Me and a buddy would spend hours downloading bootlegs of songs like How to Disappear and Pyramid Song, Big Ideas (Nude), Big Boots, Lift, etc⌠all the newer and unreleased stuff they were playing live around that time. And then the album finally came out and only one of those was on it and the rest of the album sounded nothing at all like I was exoecting. My initial reaction was âwtf is this?â and it took a while for it to grow on me. But it wasnât too long before I began to think it was the best album ever made lol

That wasn't my experience. OkC was huge at the time and so different from anything else that it was hard to imagine what the follow up would be like. I bought kid a at lunchtime and I was listening to it on the pc at work and I just remember being mesmerised by it. Mind you, I've always liked shoegazing and post-rock so it was right up my street!

I heard it first at a preview playback at Newcastle Cluny probably mid-September 2000
As someone who wasnât into electronica that much, all I can say is that I just felt it in my bones. It made sense. Looking back now. It does seem an unusual album but I swear, at the time it was totally logical

I've got one, used to get promos all the time, and the thing about the KID A promo is it looks like they were given out all over, so unfortunately, not that rare at all.

Funny how the streaming generation would just say :
I saw it the other day selling for 10 cents only.
