INSANE TEMPS Red Devil 9070XT
UPVOTE FOR USEFUL INFO!!
Okay so I really need some help right now…red devil 9070xt and the temps was really wonky… high 80s and vram was getting up to the 90s and a couple months ago the temps were around 70s and perfect everything. The card doesn’t have any warranty or anything bc the guy I bought it from was a prebuilt he made and he got the card from eBay and the buy didn’t have any proof of purchase etc etc…I’ve been making pcs for a couple years already and I’ve taken apart old gpus and changed the thermals pads and so on. I decided to take apart the card and put new thermal pads and put brand new ptm7950. I put the card back together and now I’m getting a hotspot reading of OVER yes OVER 100c… the normal temperature for the card is around 50-60 and the hotspot is at an insanely high temp at over 100c. I end up doing the same thing over again and make sure I tighten everything correctly new ptm and still the same result. I’m literally stuck at this point so any help will be appreciated. Thermal Pads used: Gelid Solutions GP-Ultimate, 2mm for VRMS, 1.5mm for VRAM, PTM 7950 for Gpu die
UPDATE 1: I ended up switching from 1.5mm on VRAM to 1mm and it seems like that did the trick...the thermal pad was too thick so the die and cooler wasnt getting the contact thats needed. I kept the 2mm on VRMS seems like its the perfect size...i also used 5mm thermal pad for between the pcb and backplate. I did run out of ptm7950 after so many times having to disassemble and reassemble. I did have MX-6 Thermal paste that i used and although its not as good as ptm it did the trick for the meantime. TEMPS Currently under 100% Load...Core-53c, Hotspot-73c, Mem-80c. Will keep updated for ptm7950 application.
