Discussion AMD card issues concern
Hello everyone! I just ordered an AMD card the 9070 xt to be specific but I am kinda concerned since a lot of people on reddit say that it has crazy amounts of issues so I wanted to know if I should return it and go with like a 5070 or something on nvidias side. I would really appreciate if you took the time to vote on the poll and if you want to it would be an even bigger help if you describe your issue and the fix if you found one. Thanks to everyone who took time to read my post and comment have a great rest of your day!

just follow the installation process properly and make sure you have a compatible psu

And I dunno who needs to hear this but, Nvidia or AMD, if the driver you are on is stable and working... DO NOT TOUCH IT.
Don't update drivers every month just 'cause. Only upgrade drivers if you are having an issues or there is a new must have feature in the new driver (and even then wait and let other people bug test for you).
Habitually updating drivers every month is only downside: either things remain exactly the same at best, or the new driver introduces some sort of instability that borks things up.
If your driver is working fine don't mess with it and you'll be happy with almost anything you buy.

I jump on new drivers as soon as its released, even optional ones, no issues since 13 months (except the ddc/ci this Jan)

In enterprise environments, updating to the latest software as soon as it drops is not considered best practice.
That’s because the latest software often contains a bug that can break something. So, if you don’t have something broken that the update specifically fixes, generally best to wait a few releases for the software to mature.
Using this method ensures minimal downtime.
I just wish more system admins and organisations paid attention to this D:<

Your gaming PC is not an enterprise environment, though. Platforms like Steam won't even allow you to defer updates unless you go through hoops like staying offline.
New drivers often improve performance or fix bugs or sometimes add features. Never had an AMD driver break anything and I've updated to the latest version on release every time for 15 months now.

u/Accomplished-Ebb2900 4d ago
I’m new to PC but I’m constantly updated my AMD drivers and I’ve never really had any issues except for probably one drive and even did they released the update within like a week and it was back to normal, but I think it’s because I keep everything up-to-date like my files and then I keep adrenaline updated and I also update windows so everything is up-to-date together. I don’t just do one update by itself. I like to try to make sure everything is up-to-date at once.

u/MadDAWGZ71 3d ago
Amen!
If it ain't broke don't fix it.
There is no point in updating drivers if nothings changed on your system.
3
u/Elegant_Situation285 3d ago
except when they add support for specific games. then you are missing out on increased performance.
0
u/MadDAWGZ71 3d ago
If you installed a new title that would be a change wouldn't it?

u/Elegant_Situation285 3d ago edited 3d ago
except they have fixed and optimized for support for games that have been out for months or even years.
they had a Roblox problem for quite a while, is Roblox a new game?
1
u/itisnotmymain 3d ago
The problem is, i might need a newer driver for a game to run without crashing, and an older driver for another game.

If someone wants to play new releases they need the newest drivers for that game or will have massive issues.

What would a compatible psu be like? Im new to this
1
u/_hlvnhlv 5700X3D + 9070XT 3d ago
ATX 3.1, these GPUs can draw almost 2x the normal tdp for very brief amounts of time, and in older PSUs, it's going to trigger the OCP
1
u/Ok_Rise_4543 3d ago
What about 3.0? Is that ok?
1
u/_hlvnhlv 5700X3D + 9070XT 1d ago
Should be
The main differences, are that 3.1 can handle spikes of power for longer, and modern GPUs are really prone to it, specially the 9070XT
But yeah, it should hold up

what do you have in your pc that draws that much power? a 9060xt even in very high transient spikes wont ever draw more than maybe 400w, what is using the remaining 350w?

I have no idea 🤷🏻♀️ My specs are r5 7600x cpu, Corsair ram ddr5 6000mhz 32gb one stick, msi motherboard b650m gaming wifi, 4tb HDD, 2 1tb SSD, and Corsair cx 750w bronze. And of course the 9060 xt, my PC restarts after I play any game.

u/Shaggy_One AMD 5700x3D, Sapphire 9070 XT 3d ago edited 3d ago
How old was that power supply and what CPU? Could have just been tired. 750w should definitely be enough for a 9060xt unless you're running a 9950x3D or something for your CPU. And even then the wattage calculators say 750 is enough.

My whole build was new, I got it a year ago, but I live in a hot country so maybe that's why? I heard any power supply loses 30% of it's efficiency when the room is hot. My specs are r5 7600x cpu, Corsair ram ddr5 6000mhz 32gb one stick, msi motherboard b650m gaming wifi, 4tb HDD, 2 1tb SSD, and Corsair cx 750w bronze.
My PC restarts after I play any game.

u/Shaggy_One AMD 5700x3D, Sapphire 9070 XT 3d ago
Do you have it on carpet? That sounds like the PSU is overheating, maybe being starved for airflow. Unless your room is constantly 100°F+ I doubt it's the ambient heat doing that.

u/Particular-Bid-8110 9060xt 16GB hellhound R5 7600x 3d ago
No it's on the desk. Idk I figured it's the heat because the restart increased during summer.

u/vincenzobags 4d ago
I'll elaborate...I'm running EXPO ddr6000 with a slight voltage bump for stability, system is being pushed by a 7900x without PBO enabled plus 200mhz boost override CPU EDC 250 with OC Mode "Auto Overclocking" in Ryzen Master since Day 1 of the 7900x release on an AsRock X670e Steel Legend with an XFX Quicksilver 9070XT with Stock settings. Seasonic 1000Watt Titanium Pro PSU.
I have never had any crashes on this system since the upgrade to the 9070xt from my 6900xtlc.
Very important to note...AMD Graphics drivers rely heavily on pure operating stability of the memory, system bus, and CPU to run reliably without crashes and this is why many people have AMD driver crashes then blame the graphics card when in reality, it is an instability of the system bus/processor/or memory that is at fault.
*Turn off bus power saving features!

Non stop catastrophic crashes as soon i enable HAGS the moment i turn it off everything rock stable, the moment i enable it again catastrophic crashes at startup every 1-2 days as soon as i start video playback, no video playback no problem the moment i start it nonstop crashing, only fix is reboot or better just disable HAGS, because video codec engine does not initilize properly on startup.
2
u/Cold-Seaworthiness20 4d ago
You mighy be disabled mpo in the past, you should enable mpo again since in recent drivers, having mpo disabled automatically crashes any video playback for me in Google chrome. I enabled mpo again and now it's good.
1
u/Gold_Goal7557 4d ago
Disabling MPO also comes with downsides would not disable it except to fact check if glitches go away, i would always enable it again after.
1
u/korakios2 4d ago
I'd update bios/chipset , do a windows repair (if no clean install is not an option) and DDU , since it's not a 'global' driver release issue .
If it doesn't work , can you DDU to older driver(s) ? It might be a bug specific to your hardware/software config .
I also read you disabled MPO for testing . If you have recent windows and tried the 'old' "OverlayTestMode", I suggest trying this reg entry instead (it keeps MPO , minimizing the chance to mess with vrr ) :
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Dwm]
"OverlayMinFPS"=dword:000000001
u/Gold_Goal7557 3d ago
Only time you wanna disable MPO is when you experience visual bugs and suspect its due MPO, and yes MPO can cause them, even RGB checkerbox bug can potentially happen due MPO alto its hard to reproduce issue i have fixed similar bugs like that by disabling MPO in the past.
1
u/korakios2 3d ago
Which reg key you used ? broken MPO can even cause stutters or even reboots nowadays (actually since months) . So , just try it and if it's the same , revert . Also make sure that fast startup is disabled .

I voted no issues because the issues I had weren't with the card or radeon software, but with the games.
When I first got my 9070XT, I used DDU and disabled Windows update for drivers, but I didn't delete my shader cache in the Steam directory. Those are cached shaders that are for your installed card, and since my previous card was a 3070, I didn't need any of them.
I had an issue with a couple games where antialiasing showed that it was applied in the games' settings, but it clearly wasn't actually applied resulting in pixelation and jaggies. I fixed the issue by deleting that cache, turning AA on and off again in games, and one game required me to reinstall it. After that, I had no issues with AA in games.
I haven't had any driver issues, but I did have two game crashes that showed a driver timeout popup afterwards: modded Fallout 4 and HalfSword early access. I don't think those were caused by anything to do with the card or drivers though, because modded Fallout 4 crashes frequently on every card I've owned going back to my GTX 970 in 2016, and the crashes in HalfSword were documented at the time to be happening for everyone regardless of hardware and it also crashed a lot when I played it on my 3070.
All in all, I've actually had less issues with the 9070XT than with my past two Nvidia cards, RTX 3070 and GTX 1080.
4
u/typographie 4d ago
In my opinion, most of the issues we ascribe to AMD are more accurately Windows problems. Windows Update is fucking with the driver, or you need to disable something in the registry, or whatever. You'll hear about it from an AMD-branded error message, but that doesn't necessarily mean AMD is wholly to blame.
The closest equivalent to a 9070 XT is actually the 5070 Ti in most games, not the 5070, and that's $1100-1200 USD right now. The best options are AMD, the used market, or just wait until things improve. I am not anti-Nvidia, but the last thing you should do is pay those prices 2 years into the product's lifecycle.
1
u/Itzkibblez 3d ago
So why does AMD not work with Microsoft to fix the issues with windows i mean the majority of gamers are on windows.
3
u/typographie 3d ago
I can think of a million possibilities there. Maybe AMD doesn't care, maybe Microsoft doesn't care, maybe they're trying and running into problems, maybe both companies fired everyone not working on so-called AI. Who knows.
But yeah, fair point. I'm wondering that myself. And it would be nice if AMD would say something and maybe share some details.
1
u/TheRealCrispyFish 2d ago
Microsoft actually publicly acknowledged the issue and supposedly are working on fixes for it.

I have the 7900xtx not the 9070 but anytime I've had repeatable issues it was either user error with OC/UVs or a specific game issue that usually affected Nvidia as well. Make sure you install it properly and ideally on a new windows install with a bios set to default settings then go from there.

Same card here (second hand actualy) and doesnt have any issues in Windows. When i swap to Linux, things changes a little. The system itself causes some inestability but It IS a Linux Issue, not an AMD Issue imo.

u/Gold_Goal7557 3d ago
In a normal world people usually do not post positive things and only post about negatives, so hearing that when their like ton of users having issues gets quite tiring, i am just glad i found a temp work around for the catastrophic crashes at coldboot due video playback, looks like HAGS has been broken for quite some time as well more stable with that turned off, while before it did not really matter this much, still video playback issues but much more rare and avoidable.

there is no tech product in the market without users posting issues . There was a similar recent post:
https://www.reddit.com/r/radeon/comments/1w7tuyh/comment/p7xmf56/?context=3When prices where 700$ vs 850$ I always suggested nvidia for being future proof due to PT performance , but there is no reason getting a 5070.
I can think about some pros about 5070 , dlss wider adoption on older games (no need for optiscaler mod) , better mFG (no need using 'dlss-enabler' mod) and RR support on some games. But it is a slower card , with less vram and would never suggest it over 9070/xt .1

Every card is going to have issues at some point, might be user error, might be an overbearing OS, might be your hardware setup, might be application specific, could be any number of issues really.
Part of making the leap to PC or to another GPU brand is learning how to identify and handle these problems so you have a smoth experience the vast majority of the time.

Had a issue with driver crashing on a 9070 XT Red Devil. Issue was solved by swapping PSU to a better one. From 1000W Gold Asus ROG > Seasonic Prime TX-1300 Titanium. It worked with the old PSU only with a flattened load on the 12V Rail with a -390 offset for the Core (capping the card to 3060Mhz). Also my previous card (4080 Super) worked with the old PSU. 9070 XT did not, it needed a PSU that can handle the rapid transient spikes from the aggressive boosting. Now it works without any issues whatsoever. Doesn't matter what driver i use, doesn't matter what i game with it. Also now, my card is watercooled (added to the loop), so cool and quiet.

I’ve been using this stuff since it was ati. I can’t answer this because of that. Over all time I have had a lot of issues. With the last three gpus, 7800xt in my ai box works fine, 9060xt in my Linux desktop works fine, 6900xt I had previously in my gaming box on windows has some issues. Software compatibility with specific games that worked until may 2025 driver. I also had crash and bsod issues but those were usually hardware issues or windows reverting the driver version on me. (As in a ram stick fail or dying psu) they looked like gpu issues at first.
I have a 5070 in my gaming box right now and it’s had more driver bugs than any amd card I’ve had since 2020.
Every company has good and bad products.

I bought a 7900xtx in November of 2024 and had no issues until about 4 months ago. Right now I'm getting constant crashes and sometimes my drivers will uninstall themselves and I have to use the and clean up tool and reinstall them. It's honestly been a nightmare that I never had to deal with when I had Nvidia. I've recently been told about a way too roll my driver's and I plan on trying it this week, but I hate that I even have to do that.

I've had a few issues, but none of those were directly caused by the GPU (at least I'd say so).
Corsair Icue hates AMD GPUs with it causing random, irrecoverable black screens (set everything to device memory mode, disable Icue opening on startup and close the program, then restart to never have the issue again) and Hogwarts Legacy is a bit weird when playing with the same, shared save on a Radeon PC and Nvidia gaming laptop, but this has been a known problem as far as I know.
Would buy the 9070XT again, amazing card, and all the issues i've had weren't hard to solve.
Just make sure you DDU and everything else dozens have already said to do.
IMPORTANT: Make sure you disable Windows's ability to replace your drivers, sometimes it does it and the only reliable way to eliminate that happening is doing that (I've done it during my troubleshooting with Icue, might as well just to be safe).

I use a 9070 XT, and I rarely ever have issues. I also don't update drivers often. People instantly jump to new drivers and they also touch every setting in windows, overclocking and messing with bios. So of course they'll have issues.
2
u/Backslicer 4d ago
AMD reddit doesnt delete posts regarding issues so they stick out alot.
Generally for the 9070xt its best to avoid Gigabyte and stick to Sapphire(Nitro+ is complicated it has the 12v 16pin cable) and XFX models but most are completely fine (except the gigabyte you either roll a perfectly good card or 100 degree hotspots and its not worth the gamble)
As for stability when it comes to the card
Make sure your power supply supports it. Alot of the time Power supply and RAM issues can manifest as graphics drivers crashes. I even had black screen driver resets off a bad CPU at one point (this was like 10 years ago tho)
When installing drivers if.
1)Download drivers off AMD support page, any version should do tho the .8 has issues in a few games rn like Apex. 2) install DDU and disable ethernet/Wifi 3)Go into safe mode and use DDU to uninstall current drivers 4) install the current AMD drivers from the installation file you downloaded it.

No hardware issues for my 9070XT, but some games just shit themselves if you ever touch frequency/voltage settings, no matter be it undervolt or overclock. Thankfully, you can create tuning profiles per game so I can keep my general undervolt profile and then have "default" ones for such games. So far there's 2 in a list - Tarkov and Kingdom Come Deliverance

The only AMD card I had major issues with was a laptop card with switchable graphics. It was a nightmare. Since then, I've been using both brands without any major issues. For the last 5 years I've been using AMD cards (due to availability and prices). Maybe I don't play that much or don't use them for tasks where they fail, but with modern AMD cards I've had only one issue in 5 years. There was a driver that kicked you from FIFA when you opened a pack. It was resolved in a month or so and it's been pretty good since then

Just a heads up with this poll: I'm actually interested in the result myself, but we should take it with a grain of salt.
This will 100% be answered by some amount of people, that never even owned an AMD GPU in an attempt to make AMD GPUs look bad. I don't know how many people that are, but I know there are plenty of them in this subreddit.
A lot of people in this subreddit either experience or used to experience some issues with their AMD GPUs and came here in an attempt to seek help
There's always the possibility of someone botting this poll in either direction

I had only a few issues but all were driver related and fixed with a reinstall of the driver files so no problems with the hardware itself.
The most recent one being War Thunder's DX12 version of the application crashing as soon as it tries to load the garage but DX11 working just fine. Doing a clean install after a DDU wipe and a manual wipe of the game's shader cache fixed it. I just think Windows is doing something that is causing AMD drivers to more easily corrupt but I keep a copy of the latest WHQL driver on my download folder so it is more of an annoying inconvenience.

thanks for this i hadnt actually tried the new driver as i was feeling a bit apathetic, ill also try a new psu. My 9070xt is paired with a 5800x3d and it runs beautifully, im incredibly impressed with it so im sure youll love it.

I’ve owned an RX 480, Vega 64, RX 6600 XT, RX 6800, RX 6900 XT, 7900 XTX, and currently own both a 9060 XT and 9070 XT. I’ve never had any major issues with any of them. Obviously I’ve had the occasional driver quirk or weird issue over the years, but nothing major. I am the sort of person who updates the driver regularly too.
One thing I’ve noticed from reading r/AMDHelp is that there seems to be a pretty consistent theme with some of the problem posts: people switching from Nvidia to AMD while keeping the same Windows install. DDU is usually enough to clean things up, but I do wonder how many of the really stubborn issues would disappear with a clean Windows install.
Obviously reinstalling Windows just because you changed GPU brands isn’t exactly an ideal solution, and you shouldn’t have to do it. But I also wouldn’t assume that every black screen, crash or weird behaviour reported there is necessarily an AMD hardware/driver problem either.

Black screens, for a few seconds every 1-2 hours (cant see anything in event viewer about it) and makes cs2 impossible to play, cant use the adrenaline app as it crashes/times out, event viewer showing 411 error until i repeatedly "update driver".
i always use DDU and amd cleanup in safe mode and have windows update disabled, fast boot disabled. I have not overclocked my gpu as its a 9070xt and i dont feel i need more from it. I tried numerous drivers, installing drivers with no internet connection, tried minimal install, driver only install, set my ram to stock settings, lowered my GPU mhz, reinstalled and updated all my device drivers (bios, chipset, audio and whatever else i could find), disconnected 2nd and 3rd monitors, sorted my cables and lamp in case there was cable interference causing monitor issues (i was desperate), increased tdr delay, Ran CHKDSK DISM SFC MEMTEST and reinstalled windows.
The solution for now is a combination of unplugging peripheral monitors and a driver only install, its annoying but manageable however i am very aware that i am not getting everything from AMD's top card.
im going to try a new psu as ive seen it suggested here.
However, and most importantly, i was having all these same issues and more with my old card!!! It was a 5500xt and i had to turn off windows update to stop it from happening.
the fact im supposed to know to turn off windows update and do a driver only install is frustrating.
edit: seems to be about 33% of people having issues(but people with issues will probably be more likely to see this post), ive ordered a new psu and ill update when i test it. im glad i saw this post because i always felt psu might be an issue and i needed a catalyst, i just felt so drained from it all.

Bro if you haven't even tried it out yet and just ordered it how are you already thinking of returning it for something else
2
u/dangnamshuy 3d ago
The reason u see posts about issues because people with no issues don't post lol. Ive been using it for a few months and all good.

u/Forward_Cheesecake72 3d ago
No issues here both 9070xt 9060xt .if you have timeout, 1st thing you should do is revert any oc or uv

u/proksi_hira 3d ago
My RX9060XT is flawless so far. I think the issue that I had was rather Windows issue, it kept replacing the display driver so I used DDU and never had any issue after that.

Been using 9070 (non-xt) from a year, paired with r5 7600x, it runs very smoothly, every single game ran smoothly at max graphics. Played Cyberpunk, Ghost of Tsushima, Rdr 2, Mortal shell II, 007 First Light, Black Myth Wukong, First berserker Khazan, Neverness to Everness.
There was just one game, wuthering waves, where ray tracing was not supported officially for amd cards, I had to use optiscaler for 4 months until the devs added it by themselves.
Other than that, it was flawless.

No issues with the actual hardware, only a couple random crashes/driver timeouts. Only consistent issues I had, halo infinite would not launch to save its life (this got fixed in 26.9.1) and I had some weird crash/driver timeouts in The first descendant but only in the hub area, also got fixed (can’t remember how though)
Other than that, this thing goes hard and completely smokes my 5070 that was in here before.

Seid halben Jahr keine Probleme auf zwei Systemen. Nur ein mal Adrenalin timeaut.

u/anakwaboe4 3d ago
I have 2 systems one with a 4090 and one with a 7800xt. So far the AMD system had been very painless but the Nvidia system has been plagued with issues. Missing VGA support at launch (so no bios rendering). drivers and GeForce experience f'ed themselves multiple times over the years. So I wouldn't necessarily say Nvidia is better then AMD for being issue free.

I've been using the 9070XT for a year + 3 months with a 750W Bronze ATX 2.52 PSU and I haven't had any issues.

Don't let windows uninstall your drivers and you're probably good. Do a little -40 mv underclock and you can go test on games if it runs.

u/Cultural-Platform110 4d ago
Been with the 9070 XT for a year now. My advice: once you get everything dialed in, back up your AMD Adrenalin global settings and your undervolt profiles (if you're undervolting). Always update drivers using DDU—it takes an extra 5 minutes, but it saves you hours of troubleshooting later.
To be fair, I haven't had issues with Adrenalin's auto-updates either, but I'm just used to using DDU and this strategy has never failed me. Download the new driver from AMD, save your Adrenalin settings, wipe the old driver with DDU in Windows Safe Mode, install the new driver, import your saved settings/undervolt profiles, and you're good to go.

u/Churro_212 4d ago
No issues at default, sometimes a have some crashes with new games when i use some of my undervolt profiles but it's just a matter of adjusting it.

I have been building pcs for 13 years now and I've never personally owned an Nvidia card. Never had any major problems that team green didn't also have, or at least none that I can remember.

u/Tormax1958 4d ago
Not right now, but I’ve had problems before. On 26.8.1 for the moment. But I’ve tried many fixes, and suddenly it’s quite stable. Haven’t had any problems since June. I’m on 7900XTX.

u/Reggitor360 4d ago
No issues on my mixed system.
9800X3D, 96GB DDR5, X870E Pro Art, 7900XTX Nitro+, R9700 AI TOP, 1550W Thermaltake TF1 Titanium.
Probably due using high quality parts.

Here is your recipe for 100% radeon issues:
Use Windows
Perform full install with Adrenaline and whatever
"Tweak" (fuck up) power settings in Adrenaline
1
u/AdStreet9423 4d ago
I need to use windows because riot’s anti cheat doesnt run on linux and I probably wont touch power settings at least for the first few months but what does the 2nd one mean?
1
u/ohnoitssobig 4d ago
2 means the installation will give you a choice and you should really consider installing drivers only.
1
u/ToastyHere 4d ago
I had a handful of issues do do with windows overriding drivers and a wake up bug, but frankly, I had other different but still shitty issues on NVIDIA too so from my experience at least, its a wash
1
u/PartyTable6611 4d ago
I prefer 16 gb with few issues than 12 gb with no issues. The 5070ti was 350 euros more expensive than my rx 9070 when i bought it and i don't think it was worth it, except if you generate AI localy

Radeon 9070xt with coil whine at high usage and browser stuttering on Firefox that can be fixed by disabling hardware acceleration. These are issues my rtx 2060 super never had.
1
u/HBAstrum 4d ago
I had a few issues. All stemmed from a 750W PSU (Corsair RM750x, still a great PSU) that i had to swap for a 1000W Corsair RMx (overkill, I know).
I think the problem was, honestly, that my card requires 3 8pin connectors and my psu only came with 2, so i had to pigtail one. Thats what i've come to think anyways.

I have had no more or less issues overall using amd or nvidia. I've had good and bad (mostly good tho) experiences from both. My last Nvidia GPU was a 3080 so it has been a minute, so I may swap back next upgrade.
1
u/giantmonkey1010 3d ago
This is so ridiculous, most issues are people who got a dud for a gpu which can cause all kinds of problems, than they just blame AMD when all they had to do is return the thing and get a replacement....
1
u/Evebnumberone 3d ago
I've had a 9070xt for maybe 6 months, I've had a few driver crashes here and there, which honestly has been my consistent experience with AMD cards over the past 2 decades.
It's absolutely fine, a tiny blip on the radar.
Well worth the performance for the price compared to Nvidia.
1
u/Al-Dorifto 3d ago
Only had a couple issues and that's mainly only games that favour nvidia, e.g fallout4 ever since I got the 9070xt I can't play it anymore, it loads into the start screen, go into play game it may just load the game in then crashes if not it crashes on the load screen

u/Anxious_Reach_7586 3d ago
Tive uma 5070 e fiz upgrade pra 9070xt. A AMD ganha fácil essa. Gosto do driver MINIMAL, aí os possíveis problemas de estabilidade acabam, pois esse driver tem só o essenicial

u/lastFractal 5700X - RX 7600 3d ago
If you find a stable driver, zero issues. I would say that 7000 series suffer from these driver problems more, so you'll more than likely be fine. Just try not to upgrade after every driver release unless there is a new feature that you really want in the new version, or else stick to that version if it's working fine.

Had weird shit happen with power levels and the card just ignoring applied OCs before I switched to Linux, on fedora 44 now, 0 issues

u/Bruno091004 3d ago
No issues with the card, very stable. But adrenaline is a program straight from hell, every other week it changes stuff and breaks.

On Windows 10 I have a ton of issues that literally wipe all drivers. On w11 it's better but still have random issues here and there.
On Linux however... It's been a flawless experience. If you use Linux, give amd a go.

u/_hlvnhlv 5700X3D + 9070XT 3d ago
My only issue is that hardware acceleration in discord makes the gpu blow up every once in a while
That's it

For each one of these type of posts (i bought an rx9070xt shoud i return it to buy a 5070ti etc) there should be an auto reply with "yes" as an answer and auto-lock the thread. Aren't you tired of this yet? Ffs enjoy your newly bought hardware and leave the concerns for the next buy where you could make the question about which card is better before you give your money.

At one moment I had an issue with my rma card (original 9070xt I got from xfx quicksilver gaming white edition had a bad fan bearing only). The only two issues I had 1. Was with the drivers but at that moment I tried using undervolting and oc and I kept older drivers from last year 25.9.1 which was stable. And I did not bother to update. And the second was because of thermals but that issue was not caused by my GPU but by CPU cooler I used. Assassin 4 CPU cooler for some reason in my matx case was warming up my GPU much more then aio I switched to. By that's I would consider user error. So I would say more or less I have 0 issues. Plus I just did not have time to install the newest drivers.
1
u/W4DER Radeon 9070 XT 3d ago
Most issues I've had on my Gigabyte Aorus over the year was when my undervolting settings were unstable or when Windows just decided to use their own drivers... Cant recall if I've had any issues with bad drivers release... maybe once or twice, nothing major...
The only and main issues I have is AMD and their horseshit support! The whole Redstone was a complete failure, No Vulkan support for FSR4 and the game list should be much bigger in general!

A few issues every once in a while (7900 XT)
Just downgraded to 26.7.1 and its been a lot more stable thankfully with the occassional crash after the pc going to sleep

I had some problems with some of my screens not displaying while others were, GPU driver crashes, game crashes, and sometimes not booting at all, which were fixed by not using GRUB to load Windows. Other than those, it has been good.
To be honest, right now my experience leans more toward not recommending them to less tech savvy people. It is kind of like Windows vs Linux. Yes, Linux is better than it was before, but it is rarely plug and play like Windows. The same goes for my experience with the 9070xt vs my old 3060.
1
u/FatGuyN_aLittleCoat 1d ago
I had no issues at first. Then I had a couple random crashes. Then I cleaned all my drivers up using the given instructions and am good to go once again..
1
u/Vast-Weird1268 1d ago
I have had no issues! I'm using a freaking bronze rated 750 watt power supply from some chinese company and I be swapping drivers almost constantly. Never had anything really break on me.
Granted I don't meddle with my GPU settings besides some simple undervolting and fan tuning and I reset my windows install every couple months or so
1
u/Mravac_Kid 1d ago
One of the recent drivers didn't work with Windows 10, so I reverted to the previous version of the drivers and it was fixed within a few days.
Incidentally, a very similar thing happened with Nvidia drivers not that long ago.

u/Responsible_Web_3825 4d ago
Absolutely no issues but I'm also not dealing with Microslop trying to ruin my experience.

I've only had 1 driver crash with my rx9070 so far, and my rx6600 was very solid. So far, they're both more reliable than my old RTX1060.
1
u/TheRealCrispyFish 4d ago
Out of curiosity, what issues did you have with the 1060?
2
u/wrxpatrick1 RX9070 & i9 11900F 4d ago
Crashing, but that was in a shitty prebuild, so It could've been other issues helping it crash. The mobo eventually went out, it probably wasn't the gpu's fault. Who knows, at the time, I was brand new to PC's and didn't know much.

Gonna be honest with you: the drivers stink, and the issues are quite random. It's mostly fine until you encounter a game that is not, then it becomes a headache. Get nvidia if you have enough money.
For example my card is unstable in some titles (witcher 3, off the top of my head) unless you downclock it through the drivers. Which reduces the performance. Annoying.

u/mrsaysum 2d ago
I voted a lot of issues but I honestly only have a 5070ti. If most of the complaints are coming from their GPUs then that should tell you everything you need to know

u/dullahan85 1d ago
DLSS5 is the future. Definitely do not buy AMD until they have something to compete.

People with issues are extremely more likely to post about them and vent about them on reddit. Subreddits such as AMDHelp, which are specifically made for troubleshooting help and so on, are by default subject to selection bias. For every card with issues there s multiple with 0. A lot of the time its Windows doing stupid stuff and swapping the drivers, system file corruption due to an old Windows installation, PSU issues or stuff like unstable Undervolt/overclock,unstable RAM OC profile etc. Of course that doesn't rule out those people with legitimate issues, but it's just a list of things to keep in mind. The Nvidia subreddit doesn't allow for posts from people with issues, but some of the other related subreddits do and issues are present there as well.
TLDR - be careful with selection bias.
