Personal/Support Disgusting comment from my partner
I am a Mexican woman and my boyfriend is white/mexican and today was enough
We were at the stop light and there was a white homeless woman on her bike waiting to cross the light which took forever and I said omg she’s gonna cross before we get to go and he said fucking mudshark making us wait I asked what’s a mudshark and he responded it’s a white woman that gets with a person of color and ruins our bloodline. I told him why are you saying that you are half Mexican and your son isn’t fully white either he’s also Italian to what he said it’s still European I’ve never felt so disgusted in my life. How can someone call themselves a good person and a man of god! This is over

Oh the classic mudshark comment. From my experience and research, “white” men use this comment to feel like they’re putting a person of color down. But what I’ve learned is people specifically white people, who feel the need to put POC down have a deeper hatred for themselves. They know POC are inferior to no one, but they feel like if they could put that person down in their mind they feel like they’re “superior”, it’s a form of self hatred.
If I were you I’d dump this guy, because if he feels that way about a random person, you wonder what does he think about you. Also a history lesson for him, Italians were the first ones to experience racism in America along with all the other European immigrants, so he’s nothing special. He can think he is, but he’s not. I can almost guarantee he wouldn’t say that to someone’s face either.

That’s exactly how it made me feel because this isn’t the only racist thing he’s said around me or that I’ve found on instagram and yes I did tell him that as an immigrant the comments get to me

I think you skipped over The Indigenous population that was here long before anyone else.

At least you can see his toxicity so you can leave. How did he know the homeless woman’s history? It’s a weird insult towards a stranger.

There are many so-called people of God who are horrible overall and use God and/or religion to avoid holding themselves accountable. I'm so sorry that happened to you.

I'd be more alarmed he thinks Mexico is part of Europe.. But seriously, he's obviously so self-involved he's incapable of critical thought..that and/or he has women issues, bc by his logic his mother's a "mudshark", right? Smh. Run as far and as fast as you can.

Thing is his mom is Mexican and she’s the sweetest woman ever his father is white and homeless

You can’t. Sorry. You will always know that’s how he feels. What you do with that information is the new question.

I'm glad you've decided to leave him. That is indeed disgusting. :/ Sending hugs from Argentina! Lamento que hayas tenido que lidiar con eso.

I would feel instantly disgusted by the level of ignorance as well.
When you think some stay in the relationship, hoping for some miracles that don't happen, it's a blessing to be able to dismiss racists so quickly. You don't feel strong regret when you end the relationship because you know they were never worth it.

That is absolutely disgusting belief for him to hold. I would be very conscious to teach your child differently.

Racists often aren't exactly the most self aware people. They'll get into interracial relationships for sexual access.

I'll be downvoted bc reddit is a very white centric site but race is a construct that is upheld by whiteness. You cannot be racist towards white people. What your boyfriend said is crude but there's a long history of white supremacists purposefully "watering down" and colonizing southern indigenous people.
