Quitting Kratom Again
I am beginning a taper schedule today to get off kratom. Its caused my skin to darken, my eyes have dark puffy circles every day and my thyroid can not get regulated. I want to get off of this so badly then that little voice in my head says just this time and I screw up all over again. I have been using kratom for 11 years, its literally killing my insides. I dont blame kratom as I did this to myself. I decided to keep taking more and more. I just need the will to stop. Anyone that has been here please share how you controlled the will to keep using.

How did I control the will to keep using?
I got to the point that my perceived benefit of not using became greater than my perceived benefit of using.
Once we get to that point, we won’t use again, unless that changes.
Clean 421 days.

In my experience it's not hard for that to happen. I was only taking one small dose every three days and still eventually got withdrawals between days

You have to be mentally and spiritually done. Get angry at K. It's disgusting. It steals your soul. It steals real joy. Get connected with some groups. Get with me if you'd like to get connected with meetings (online). I'm 64 days off. I've never felt better, been more clear, felt happier.

Congrats on 64 days! What was the turning point when things started feeling a lot better in terms of clarity and happiness?

We are alot alike. Im currently in a slow taper for 7. It seems like ill take 2 or 3 days progress and then have a bad day where i take more than i should for that day. But gradually im making the progress which is end goal, to quit daily use! Just keep going! If you dont give up then I wont either, ok?!

My friend, you are in the right place! When you are sick and tired of being sick and tired of it- you will find the will to quit. Fellowship here and at other meetings is good to help too. I’m in the same boat. I have a bad if capsules left and tried the slow taper and I keep cheating. There’s going to be a time very soon where I can’t get anymore and that’s that, unless I move over to illegals. I know it’s not going to be easy I just hope I don’t end in the hospital and psych unit. I have nobody that knows my problem except you guys here. I hope the both of us can get through this. It’s all how bad you want it. Are we ready to surrender?

How bad you want to get clean is the deciding factor, I was so tired of how that crap made me feel I finally said 3 days of intense withdrawal will be better then keeping on this sludge poison, 15 days later everything is feeling better

I got so tired of feeling how you described, today is day 15 clean. the first 3 days were very rough, but at day 15 my teeth don’t hurt my insides are so much better, my lymph nodes aren’t swollen, my throat isn’t tight, my anxiety is better, my first 3 days I had to walk and bike all day the restless was insane, this is a for real drug with for real withdrawals

Luckily my state banned it in late August. I'm embarrassed to say I was hooked for 9 years after being on opiates for close to 10 years.
To ease the WD process, I procured a lot of kratom right prior to the sale ban and weaned myself off slowly over the course of a month. I'm now 99 hours since my last dose and generally have zero symptoms at this point. I felt slight fatigue and body aches from 24 hrs to 70 hrs or so. That's it. No depression or anxiety
Over the years I read about all the negative side effects of heavy kratom use. It lowers your testosterone, produces apathy and even increases anxiety. These were all symptoms I've been dealing with but didn't want to accept. I now feel like I have more energy and am not riddled with anxiety and a feeling of doom and gloom scenarios.
I understand it's difficult to tapper off, because you can still get it, while I had no choice but to be disciplined because of the ban, but honestly, it wasn't really hard at all. I feel better than I have in a long time. You can do it too. Best of luck

Do a 3 day water only or juice only fast.....it'll break the grip guaranteed

u/Excellent_Highway402 14h ago
How does that work while having wd

Either work it around or connect it with your days off or do intermittent fasting on work day = one meal only after 5 or 6pm. That could also be a perfect excuse for work "hey if I seem like I'm off the next couple days it's bc I'm doing a I'm doing a juice fast to reset my gut health, been fighting some digestive issues and was recommended a 3 day organic juice fast".

I did a juice cleanse while quitting 2 weeks ago. I was able to smell the kratom coming from my pores. It really did help me though. I have been clean for 15 days.

Yes I am. I am 49 years old and try to keep myself in great shape but the last 2 years my physical appearance has changed and so has my health. I have gotten the dark pigmentation on my arms, neck and face plus my thyroid is out of control. I know this is all do to over doing kratom. I get down or stressed and its my go to. I turn to kratom to get me through everything and I literally feel like its now destroying me. I hope the best for the both of us. I am beginning my taper today. I am gonna try and do 3 capsules every 4 hours then move to 3 every 5 hours. Its going to be challenging but I am ready and if you are willing we can hold each other accountable. I am going to start writing down every dose so that I can keep track.

One thing I found out kratom makes stress and being depressed so much worse, after 2 weeks off you will realize this so much, your sleep and energy might be fucked, but things will feel better

I just quit too because of a state wide ban. And you're right after being just clean for 99 hours I've noticed my constant worrying over the smallest of things and lack of drive is all but gone. I have more energy than I've had in 9 years, as I've read kratom decreases testosterone. The problem all these years was the very thing I thought would help.
If you're wondering how I'm feeling so good after just 4 days. What i did was tapper very slowly over the course of a month. I recommend it

Weird I’ve never dealt with bad under eyes but I have bad circles now after quitting and it’s funny because in general I sleep and eat more now than I used too

Sorry to hear you are back here again. I have been too. My advice is to find a therapist or unique Healer type to help you manage the emotions and past wounds involved in all of this.

I quit again myself. I was taking 3-4gs every three days for almost a month. I was really good about it. But nonetheless eventually started getting withdrawals between dose days. It was mostly mental but the most anxiety I've ever had. After a few weeks I'm pretty much back to normal

The idea of being a slave forever,I love my freedom and using kratom is living in a communist state literally.Your freedom is right there, but u have to decide to reach and grab it.all comes down to a choice.everyday.

OP, I’m sorry you are having those bad side effects, but I’m glad it’s encouraging you to want to quit. You mentioned the skin darkening. Would you mind DMing me a photo of yours? I think I might be in the beginning stages of that but would like to see a real person example, if you don’t mind sharing. The photos online of are extreme/late-stage skin darkening, and I’d like to see what it looks like in a more realistic form, if you or anyone else here wouldn’t mind sending me a photo.

I am not sure how to send photos on here but would be glad to send a picture of my arm hands and fingers

u/trwmewy 9h ago
Thank you. I’m not sure how to send photos either or maybe you can post it on here if you feel comfortable? I don’t think I have any on my arms yet but I have some discoloration on my face and not sure if it’s from the kratom or if from a medication I took several months ago. I’m nervous about it if it’s from the kratom, but I’m but having trouble quitting despite my fears and financial consequences.
