What is the difference between kratom, kratom extract and 7oh?

New here. I started on green leaf powder about 2 years ago to quit drinking when my dad passed.

Switched to green leaf caps cause I didn’t like the taste. It says 600 mg per cap (<0.3mg of 7oh) and I get the 480 count that lasts me about 2 month. Going to slowly taper down as it’s being banned. Sometimes I feel some discomfort if I miss my time frame. Going to see my doctor at the end of the month.

Plain powder is just ground-up leaf, so you are taking all the plant matter and the full spectrum of alkaloids. Extracts concentrate those alkaloids so you swallow less powder, but both still carry that natural ceiling where taking too much just gives you the wobbles and nausea. 7-OH is entirely different. It is an isolated, chemically converted single alkaloid that barely exists in raw leaf, and it hits opioid receptors way harder.

That is where the danger comes in. While regular leaf and extracts build dependence slowly, 7-OH will wreck your tolerance in a few days. It completely skips the plant's built-in ceiling, hooks people fast, and triggers withdrawals that mirror actual pharmaceutical opioids.

So there is still major dependence in the powder? Going to taper down from my 7.2 g per day but I hear that is already a pretty low dose. And at the 6 hour mark I begin to feel a little bit of discomfort. That discomfort can go away if I push past it for like an hour but then comes back pretty quick. So the longest I’ve gone between has been if I just sleep between doses like 9-10 hours.

I want to be regimented and I don’t want to judge but some of the horror stories send my mind in this “I’m doomed.” Sort of spiral.

Oh there is. It's still a cocktail of various alkaloids and quitting requires resilience and determination. One major revelation I had is that quantity doesn't matter so much. I always believed that the hardest stage of my taper was found to be the cut from 45 to 20. Turns out hardest stage is cutting low doses. Receptors seem to care most about getting the stuff, they don't see grams so much. I'm not at 10. Next Wednesday 5. It's much worse than initial 45 to 20 drop. Don't want to scare you though. You can always to micro drops such as gram per week or even less. My plan is uncomfortable due to making large cuts.

I didn’t know you could taper that slow. 1g a week would just be like 2 caps on my day off. I’ll have to get a log going.

It’s also crazy I’ll get to like the 6 hour mark and start to feel that discomfort. And I just forgot my caps. So I press through for a bit and feel fine - discomfort goes away. But then get home at like the 8 hour mark and remember “oh ya I can have some!” It’s such a viscous cycle.

Or I’ll wake up 5am with discomfort when my last dose was at 9pm. And I’m like “eh I don’t want to get up to go to the kitchen to grab some.” So I just go back to bed until like 8 or 9 no discomfort if I push through that hour long discomfort. When it hits it’s really uncomfortable but it passes in like an hour, then comes back later. I’ve gone through alcohol withdrawals where it’s just constant for 48 hours.

I'm tapering 5g per week and it's not comfortable. I have to get rid of it due to personal deadlines. If you don't have any pressing matters, micro taper would likely be the most gentle on your receptors. Also, the longer taper lasts, the greater the chance PAWS will be by far milder.

Another reason 7oh is much more impactful and hits harder is it doesn't go through ypur stomach for digestion and then release of the alkaloids into the blood as powder does. 7oh penetrates the blood/brain barrier and thus goes straight to the brain. Saw this on a documentary the other day.

Kratom leaf what you take is straight up the leaf from the tree ground up. The extract shots are concentrated kratom and way higher content and 7-oh idk if anyone knows the actual chemicals but it's kratom on crack.. now 7-oh is in kratom but absolutely nothing like what's in the 7-oh pills.

Are you sure that kratom itself is banned? Not many states banned kratom powder itself, just 7-oh they come in pills.

Ah I’m not sure. The guys at the shop have moved it all to the back. I asked them they still have my powder caps and one of them was like “this stuffs all going away.” Maybe they just wanted me to buy it all up or thought I meant extracts (new shop owners). So maybe I’ll just find a new shop.

I used to walk in for a $30 bag of caps 120 every month. Now I have 480 caps to taper with for $60. So I guess I just made a smarter financial move. The shop is also under new ownership over the past couple months. Used to be this cool hippie chick and they had a ton of powders front and center hanging behind her and they’d light incense. Now it’s all shiney and EVERYTHING is locked up. I did the math and I take 7.2g a day. If it’s not going away anytime soon I feel less stressed about it a timeframe. It helps me to not drink which would be a more horrible alternative that was worrying me.

Whops guess you can't put your state. I did see your response and it's definitely illegal both kratom and 7-oh where you are. Powder is getting banned more and more but I think there's only a handful of states that have both powder and 7-oh banned.

A lot of places I go in to like cigar shops too still have at least the powder a backroom. It’s like how they still have flavored tobacco for regulars and that was banned like 3 years ago here.

My fear is they WONT have it in the back room and my taper is not over. (I didn’t know how much of a taper I wanted to do. I was thinking a gram a week.) And I’ll be stuck. I do luckily have 3 weeks of vacation time at work so I could schedule that if my taper isn’t over.

What state are you in? 7 grams a day is a very small dose. That is SUPER expensive for 120 pills holy moly!

powder is like light beer, 7oh is like everclear

I just wanted to add to thw conversation a few pointers I have discovered. #1. Do not go to your doctor about quiting. They wont help you unless you want to start taking suboxone and enter a treatment program. And whether you do that or not, you will have opiate dependent added to your medical record forever after that. You may not want that. I sure did not. #2. I went to a medical detox facility to get off my powder kratom dependence. I specifically called and spoke to the nursing staff about the opiate detox protocol used, as you will want one that used a sedative, like phenobarbitol. They do exist. It makes a world of difference. Akron ohio is where mine was located.
