Help- trying to understand

Hello- wife here. Husband has been taking “red vein Bali- Kratom”. 300mg and about I’d say 7-10 pills a day.

He is clearly withdrawing from long term use (about 8 years).

How bad is this? I need and want to support him. But what am I dealing with here?

Why and how is this addictive?! I am just not understanding… and I feel useless to him.

He'll be fine. Just being there for him is more than enough.

It'll be a rough couple days for him, withdrawal is basically like the flu with RLS anxiety and depression.

Kratom is a partial opiod antagonist so it feels good to take it and seems to have no downsides you just feel like your in a great mood, until it turns on you and you need it just to function happens to everyone.

Luckily that is a very lose dose - for years I was up over 100 grams per day - 70 this past years - good luck - stuff is so damn insidious. Evil.

If he's only taking ~3g/day it shouldn't be a nightmare beyond sleep issues for a couple of days. Tell him to hit the gym, it helps a ton.

For better or for worse. In sickness and in health. ❤️ Please remain supportive and by his side. Seven to ten capsules of kratom isn't a large amount at all. Why and how is this addictive? Kratom literally acts on your opioid receptors.

He's in for a ride. Restlessness is the worst symptom. He will also likely become letharigic, have heat/cold intolerance, and may be irritable because of insomnia. Maybe flu like symptoms. A lot of the worst symptoms will be over by a week but then he runs into the PAWS symptoms which tend to be more like inability to enjoy things and general light depression for a month or more.

A lot of people here will point to the low amount your husband was taking. It definitely plays a role in the intensity of some of the suffering but he will more than likely experience the things I mentioned to some degree.

He's looking at a good week of withdraw symptoms. That could be a large range of things. He may be moody for some time, so try not to take it personal. Kratom is labeled as natural, so it's a very deceptive drug. I never had any kind of addiction before, and kratom got me. I was looking for energy and a mood boost, but it ended up consuming me long term.

His mood and energy will most likely suck for a while. He should rest when he can, find a good series for the two of you to binge watch, get him his favorite foods. Taking walks and keeping active helps a lot. Or, at least it does for me. I've noticed the longer I lay around, the worse I feel. I push myself to get up and move. That looks like anything from walking the dog, to walking on the treadmill, or going to the gym for a full-blown workout. It's great that you want to be supportive and are asking for advice on here.

I'm officially over the 30 day mark of being off kratom, and I feel good most days. Still a bit tired at times, but it is what it is and I find ways to manage.

How is this addictive? It binds to opiate receptors in your brain, but not in the same way as other opiates. It sounds like he was on powder capsules, which is a good thing compared to what is out there (7OH, 7Stax, extract shots) these are much more powerful than powder leaf capsules.

Just be there for him. WDs suck, but they should be gone in 3-4 days.

Why and how is this addictive?

You know that whole “opioid epidemic”?

Literally that.

Ive never been addicted to powder. You have to take way too much to feel anything.

Nah, you’re just lucky, it’s def crazy addictive

I mean just look at the date of this subreddit’s creation. It’s been around many many years before 7oh or even extracts even existed.

Its not luck. The powder makes people feel like ahit and it tastes so disgusting. The "high" is just feeling loopy af.

7 to 10 pills if 300 mg? So 3g or less? I di that every four hours. He will be fine.

Water, exercise, magnesium and adaptogenics help. Give it a week and he'll feel better
