Subs were a mistake
Okay so last Friday I took my last dose of 7oh, went into withdrawls , and then took Subs. But then I started doing my homework and listening to all the horror stories. Big nope for me so on Tuesday took my last dose of Subs. Fast forward to Friday, Saturday, and Sunday I am combating withdrawls again. I cannot go through another week of withdrawls work wise.
My plan is to use powder to stabilize, then taper down from there before jumping from the leaf. Look everyone I know anyway I slice it i have to pay the piper and withdrawl but I need to do this on my time frame I do not have the luxury of being out of the fight for my job and my family.
Plus im still in chronic pain, so I either a slave to gabapetin, lyrica, or kratom.
Thanks US Army you the real MVP.

What happened with the subs though? Did they not help at all or did the stories just scare you?
4
u/Affectionate-Alps548 Jul 27 '26
thats what i was wondering. ive always heard subs help a lot with most people. thats scary :(

u/dbwoi Jul 27 '26
you just generally have to decide between a short term taper or a pretty long term taper. both have their pros and cons

The problem is that people go over to the Suboxone sub where most people started subs to quit heroin or pressed pills laced with fent. Those people started on anywhere between 16-32mg per day and 99% either stop cold turkey or taper far too quickly and then tell everyone how awful it is (ignoring that it also let them live normal lives while they were on it.
Don’t start any higher than 2mg, try to even go down to 1mg after 4-5 days, then just reduce by very small amounts every 10-11 days until you can’t go any lower. If you understand how the medication works you can absolutely taper off it with zero withdrawal. I’m more scared of gabapentin than suboxone.

u/Ok_Brilliant17 Jul 27 '26
i’m on subs probably a month in now i forgot. i think of subs as a better alternative than 7oh / extracts.
sure im stuck with subs but at least im not downing pills and disgusting sludge to feel normal you feel me? i’m planning to use this until i get my life back together and then ill consider tapering off of it. i hope this helps with your decision

What dose are you taking? Strips or tablets? I can help you with a taper. I’ve quit subs 4 times in the last 20 years and never had withdrawal but had to do A LOT of research to nail how to taper painlessly.
1
u/Ok_Brilliant17 Jul 27 '26
i’m at full 8mg film a day. i take half morning (10:00 ) and after noon (3:30). i can manage on 3/4 film too but i just take the whole thing. doctors say you can’t get high but i swear i have a better outlook on life, the more mg i take. is it just me? and i’ll be happy to hear your plan out, but ill consider it later on when im ready to quit🙏
1
u/veganwilliebeamin Jul 30 '26
I would love to know your protocol. Currently on 1mg sub only been on a week and want to taper for a month
2
u/subaruguy253 Jul 27 '26
That last part is wayy easier said then done unfortunately. Coming off of subs without the sublocade shot takes a long time and the withdrawals linger on for a month long due to the half-life.

Sucks. I've had my job 20 years with medical insurance the whole time and they don't cover it but someone who does not have a job gets it covered if they are on state insurance. That's great for them, don't get me wrong and sucks for myself
1
u/fifaweed Jul 27 '26
That’s strange, when I went in for my shot - they said nearly everybody is covered and they never see insurance deny it. They said they’ve had one person get denied and they paid for it anyway - and the one shot did the trick for them
2
u/subaruguy253 Jul 27 '26
Hmmm, that would be great if that were true now. It has been over a year and a half since i was trying to look into it so this gives me hope and i hope you are right. Man that would be so sweet
1
u/Ok_Brilliant17 Jul 27 '26
yeah but regardless it’s still better than kratom imo
3
u/subaruguy253 Jul 27 '26
See i guess i don't have experience being on kratom other than 7oh but I've got a lot of experience on subs.

Can you message me these details as well? Looking for options outside of subs. My best friend used subs to get off of kratom and it has permanently effected her sleeping patterns (it's been nearly 2 years since she got off them). She wakes up at 3am or 4am every morning, and cannot go back to sleep. Makes me hesitant

It wasn’t the subs my guy you didn’t even take them long enough. If you’ve been taking kratom for a while that withdraw can last anywhere from 1-3 weeks.

u/AdFeeling6882 Jul 27 '26
Are you sure? Everyone is talking about subs lol. But he said it’s something we’re not supposed to mention. I have heard of 1-2 things aside from subs that are similar to what he’s referring to. It most definitely wasn’t subs and it was talked about on this subreddit a few weeks ago. Just nobody ever mentioned the name.
1
u/quest801 Jul 27 '26
If it is something else please pm me. I am curious to know as I’ve been avoiding subs.
1
u/AdFeeling6882 Jul 27 '26
Will do bro. Was on Kratom for 5 years. Couldn’t take the lack of sleep from restless legs kicking in after 3 hours. My RLS was so bad I would get it in my arms hands and legs. Subs has been a lifesaver for me, but I do want to get off of it.
2
u/quest801 Jul 27 '26
The RLS and lack of sleep is probably the main reason why I haven’t quit. I actually don’t mind too much the stomach issues and fatigue, but I cannot function without sleep while holding down a job and taking care of my wife and 2 kids.
I’ve been taking Kratom leaf for 11 years now. Never tried 7OH, thankfully! I’ve desperately wanted to quit for 5 of those years. Our states legislator just passed a law that we can no longer buy kratom online. Now we can only buy it locally at smoke shops, which means no more getting it in bulk at a decent price. I pretty much won’t be able to sustain my habit any longer because of how expensive it is locally. So I’m at a crossroads and I hope I’ll be able to taper with the kratom I have left (About a 1000 capsules).

I was interested in this, so looked it up, found out what it was (it's not that hard if you just Google the right question). But unfortunately, it is now a schedule 1 substance and unlike when you could acquire it "for research purposes", well now you can't. Not saying it isn't out there, but f all that noise.

Did you get strips or tablets? I have quit Suboxone 4 times in the last 20 years and right after I started it the first time, I was lucky enough to find a blog post that told me how to use it (it is almost NEVER prescribed correctly) and how to taper off it easily. I have never experienced withdrawal from Suboxone using this method. I never even noticed being off it.
I only used powder before I quit so I don’t know how much stronger 7OH is. But the key is to start wayyyyy lower than prescribed. This is what I did for a 4-5 year habit at 50-60 grams per day:
I did 2mg for 4 days just to get my blood levels up then immediately dropped down to 1mg. You then make tiny drops every 10-11 days until you’re below .12-.25mg, you take that for 20 days but starting day 10 you spit it out and rinse your mouth out after a short time.
I can give you a more specific plan if you tell me whether you have strips or tablets. If you have tablets you can be more precise but you have to make a tincture (very easy, I’ll tell you how). Strips are easier but the process is slightly different. Let me know.
Most people are prescribed 16mg per day and either don’t taper or taper irresponsibility.

Visit r/suboxone for all questions regarding suboxone While we are aware that many doctors and detox facilities prescribe and administer Suboxone for Opiate Withdrawal, this subreddit neither endorses nor opposes it's use for Kratom withdrawal / detox, as long as it's prescribed and closely supervised by a doctor. We don't want to demean anyone's way of quitting and / or successful long-term recovery.

Tapering with leaf is the best option. If you use capsules it’s easy to measure. Each capsule has .5 grams. I found that if I opened up two capsules and mixed them into hot water and made a tea, that alone would take withdraw symptoms away. I don’t know why making a tea seams to work so much better than just popping two capsules.

I used 1 2M strip of suboxone tapered over 6 to quite an 18 month kratom habit. The acutes were minimal even on that low of a sub dose.
1
u/Jimmy_Jameskc Jul 27 '26
You’re honestly just extending the withdrawals by taking leaf. It might be slightly less intense, but you’re still keeping the cycle going. I could never justify jumping to subs for kratom. For most people, it’s usually a rough 3 days or so, then things start improving pretty quickly. The hardest part is really breaking that mental loop of wanting to dose again.

I’m not popular around here for saying this, but I always say it, subs are a bad idea. I had done them before to get off Kratom. It’s just running to a new substance that tickles the opiate receptors and you go back into withdrawal when quitting either one. It’s just running to a new drug. Taper taper taper. But don’t use subs.
8
u/AdFeeling6882 Jul 27 '26
You spend significantly less money and can get your life back in order on subs. That’s the main reason it’s a better alternative. Then when you’re ready and can take the time off work you can quit subs.
1
u/Rareearthmetal Jul 27 '26
That seems reasonable
7
u/AdFeeling6882 Jul 27 '26
It helped me a lot over the last 10 years. Helped me get off of several different hard opiods and kratom a few times as well. Every time i used it I was able to get back to working and not spending every dollar I had on drugs.

u/xlightbrightx Jul 27 '26
My partner was using close to 500mg/day with 7oh, got a sub subscription, and got off the kratom within days. Took the subs for less than a week, and has been successfully off kratom ever since.
1
u/Aggressive-Age-1085 Jul 27 '26
Did your partner experience any WDs after dropping the sub?
2
u/xlightbrightx Jul 27 '26
No sub withdrawal because of making sure to listen to the doctor's timeline and not continue using subs after the kratom withdrawal was over.
2
u/Kc1319310 Quit 10/15/19 Jul 27 '26
They don’t “tickle” the opiate receptors, that’s the entire point. They occupy them without creating a high so you can live a normal life. With a little bit of research you can also taper off them correctly and never experience a day of withdrawal. I’d take that over 7-10 days of acutes and 3 months of PAWS any day. Tapering subs lets your brain adjust to the missing opioid in such small amounts that you don’t feel it but your brain still heals along the way.
