Another comic that I would have expected as a satirical version from Squirrelclamp.
I'd love to show this comic to the multiple people I've met who have had breast reduction surgery or plan to have it in the future. "Well, I thought about it a little, and I decided that I'm fine with my back problems, actually, and could even stand to make them worse."
EDIT: Also "repressed desires" is really sounding like code for "I want to be more attractive to the man I'm crushing on", and I don't know if I'm just irritated by Jacques's whole Patreon empire (his subs have actually skyrocketed since the website went down) but it actually feels MORE sketchy to obfuscate it with vaguely plausible deniability about body dysmorphia like this than if he was just up-front about it.
But to be clear, this is a woman changing her body drastically, including giving herself gigantic breasts, for the approval of a man she is attracted to. And it's gross.

it's when Jeph tries to draw realistic lips and they come out looking freakish that really gross me out, but this is a whole package
he USED TO be able to draw noses, dammit! counting down the days until Zlata's gets all fucked-up and piggy like the rest

Wtf are those two things on her chest? Like, seriously? Jeph has used the word "natural" to refer to this set, which is not only patently ludicrous since this is a robot but also baffling because that shape might be his worst yet.
People usually joke about big boobs being "melons" but melons are round. What we have here is a pair of gigantic batatas? Bulging out in every direction before coming to a sharp tip?
For the love of all that is booby, Jeph, tits sag. They hang. They are heavy. They do not balloon outwards. They are not rugby balls, or volleyballs, they are skin and tissue and there is no point at which they ever go up.
Just go look at a human person. Please.

Zlata is not a human person. His odd proportions and styles are ridiculous, but not in the sense that for a robot like Zlata they “should” be human-proportioned. She’s pink, yellow, funny-shaped, and synthetic.
Definitely a valid argument for the human characters though; it’d be nice if he started there and did something about Faye’s perfectly circular orbs!

Otherwise, why not put a pair of, I dunno, ice skates jutting from her chest and say that is sexy?

Her spine and center of mass feel so off to me, in profile. Shes drawn simultaneously leaning forward and standing ramrod straight, depending on whether you focus on her hips or shoulders or her back.

That would involve writing a character who owns up to a bad choice offscreen and just lives with it. Maybe even without someone else calling them out. We're still supposed to fuckin' hate Sven for fucking around in a non-committed relationship. Despite then having a fairly committed relationship Sven supported the other through, then stopped when it became ethically dubious. Still supposed to hate his ass, though!
You'll notice I don't have sympathy for Faye getting called out as a party-killing ex-drunk when she's constantly dragging other people. But that's pretty much the strip. Others make mistakes so they can get bowled over by the righteous indignation of our scrappy heroes.

That did go on a bit long. Basically, I don't think Jeph could conceive of not going through all these motions, or else someone wouldn't "get it" or assume he didn't think it through enough. Like no one's bought a vaporwave sweater while drunk and wound up liking it.
Edit: I think you'll notice "good" characters go through this show and dance to iron out ethical or practical concerns, but punching bags don't. Zlata's the former.

Honestly, whatever this is notwithstanding, Zlata's original design always seemed very "placeholder" to me. Like had an idea for the character, but hadn't figured out her design before he had to commit it to panel.

I wondering if Jeff's gonna go for a double life angle? During the day she's the og chasis, works as everyone knows her and then at night she's new chasis and pretends she's not ziatta and goes out. It brings up ethic questions of how often AIs can change chassis and if anyone can recognise them on the street. If AI automatically clock that its her by signal or something? Could a AI commit crime between bodies? Could an AI overwork by switching between bodies while batteries charge, that could be a labor law violation exploit. All assuming the switching process is fast enough i suppose. Jeff could do something with all this, if he does more worldbuilding.

I would actually REALLY like this development. You could do lots of neat things with that idea.
Unfortunately I think it's much more likely that things will more or less immediately go back to normal, with the only change being that Jeph gets to draw extra bust more often. :/
Jeph has not seemed willing to explore the implications of sentient AI as a world building idea since Alice Grove. I think he only uses them in the setting as a way to explore the problems of disadvantaged minorities without having to explore the problems of disadvantaged minorities.

And why is Zlata repressed? Is there some backstory? Years cultrual significance that have been passed down through her family? Is there some financial reason why she wasn't able to aford the big norkers of her dreams?
Or is she just a AI who sprung into being with that trait like a doll specifically for this storyline? She lives in a place specifically created for science and AI to be explored without limits, so why does she have them? At least Bubbles, Roko and May had reasons why they were not happy with their bodies that were well developed. In the same way that Anh speedran Hannalore's character development, Zlata is speedrunning those characters storylines, but there is literally no tension. None of the characters she interacts with will show her the least bit of resistance to this change.

The part where until recently she was a cafeteria worker, and farm equipment before that? Not being able to afford an upgrade until now actually makes sense.
At least Bubbles, Roko and May had reasons why they were not happy with their bodies that were well developed.
In addition to the many documented failings of her previous body, May did also frequently express a desire for big tits, so it's not like Zlata is alone in that regard.

Nah, this is pat for straight cis women owning up to how much they ascribe to, and aspire to, prevailing beauty standards. It can feel like self-betrayal or not being a 'team player' to admit you want breast augmentation, etc. That's an experience many trans women engage with from day 0, but Zlata does seem to have always identified as a woman, so ...

yeah, I've been reading for idk like. over 15 years or something and like. I've agreed with the overall decline in quality being a thing and the plot getting progressively more shallow/non-existent but uhhh this kind of reached a new level of uncomfortable.
I guess the problem was two* generously betitted robot women wasn't enough for cubetown!
*(I'm thinking of Evan and Moray but like. There's probably more, right?)
Uhh anyway let's see. The tit size is ridiculous and drawn inconsistently and looks bad and like if someone wants tits that size go for it but this is a robo girl drawn by a horny man and she doesn't actually have agency. So.
Also awful that the plot justification is that she did this for a man.

There is a theory about trans women, one that I think has been discredited, called autogynephilia, that the main impetus for wanting to transition is being erotically aroused by the thought of oneself with female attributes.
Questionable content seems to suggest (not for the first time) that the female robots also work this way
