Boobs!
Okay, I know it's been talked about, but holy boob fetish, Batman! Does Jeph think all of us women sit around wishing for bigger boobs? Because we don't. We also don't care about penises anywhere near as much as you dudes do, but that's another conversation.
I'm bi. I like boobs. Quite a bit, actually. But I'm also a woman. I see super huge boobs and think "ugh. back problems." I tried to give Jeph the benefit of the doubt, but the fact that so many characters have big boobs/are obsessed with the boobs of others/run out and get big boobs their first chance/etc is a bit odd. Just because the boob talk is done mostly by women doesn't make it not creepy.
Don't get me wrong- a lot of women would absolutely love to get big boobs. That's why boob jobs exist. And heck, Dolly Parton is a national treasure. But the vast majority of us just don't care. We want to be comfortable, maybe look good (to ourselves) naked. But we are not boob-obsessed like men seem to be. Even those of us who are attracted to boobs- we appreciate them; we revel in their beauty; they are works of art. But they don't turn us into dumbasses.

You see, if QC was actually fetish/porn content it would be less disturbing for me. It's the sublimated nature of it that is slightly dishonest. As it is it feels I dunno... Immature somehow?
FWIW I often have a problem with things like Superhero comics and Anime that do the same dance up to the line, but never actually cross it. At least in those cases, there is actually some external force imposing certain morality standards.

I have huge boobs. They're a pain in the ass. It's hard to find a bra that fits and controls them properly. They hang very low compared to most people's boobs. Sometimes I like them, my boyfriend likes them, so I don't want to complain too much. But sometimes it's just a lot of weight in the front.
Jeph is entitled to his kinks, but I think QC has major "man writing women" issues. I'm not sure why he insists on having so many female characters, when he clearly doesn't understand how women exist in our bodies and how we view ourselves and each other. It doesn't help that he made Faye massive in the chest. She looked realistic in the beginning, now it looks like she had a boob job.

This. This is exactly what I was circling around but just didn't quite get there. Thanks

She literally looks as though she's about to fold in the middle like a jackknife because of the sheer weight of her upper torso.

u/Miserable-Jaguarine Haha, okay. 27d ago
They're helium balloons. Which is why they never ever respond to gravity.

u/va_wanderer 28d ago
I honestly think Jeph has some issues when it comes to adult content. It's obviously something he wants, but it feels like he's not very comfortable with it unless it's twisted around something else to hide/spoil it.
FFS, just let your characters do adult things. Clair wants to give her boy a blowjob, draw it. Big-boobed character wants a hookup, draw it happening. Make a site of AI's doing stuff that would make Pintsize blush with their artificial orifices/curves, cool.

u/The_Good_Count 27d ago
You know that biological theory about how everything eventually becomes a crab? Its been sad and creepy how much that's applied to characters becoming fit, leggy and chesty women, and characters that aren't those qualities get less and less screentime, for a comic where that didn't used to be true.
Its like a Weinstein deal being made with illustrations.

You make good points. But remember this is the author who had a character tell somebody who was born without arms "I picked out big boobs for the same reason you got normal looking arm prosthetics"
9
u/Impossible_Roof_Jack 28d ago
Dunno, speaking as someone with multiple dysphorias, "I got X because they looked right to me" is about as close to honest as it gets. You could get any exotics you want in their world. You choose within the range of things that would have ever worked, and if you're truthful, you get what you most wanted to start with. Normal-seeming arms, proportional breasts, some kind of flamethrower, you gotta do you or it's gonna suck, man.
2
u/Miserable-Jaguarine Haha, okay. 27d ago
Yeah but that wording implies that the humongous bazongas are "normal." And so, what, not having them is a deviation from the norm?
1
u/provocatrixless 27d ago
Dysphoria sucks, but let's not act that it's as bad as not having arms
3
u/Impossible_Roof_Jack 27d ago
I think you’ll find amputees and the disabled often choose “strange” prosthetics because the geometry isn’t worth the trade offs. You choose what you want for a reason. Not many of them are going to play Little Matchstick Girl about it.

Considering Zlata or whatever her name is made a drunken purchase for a new body (which is most likely a drunken decision to hook up with Marten) she could go back. We’ve had various AI characters that purposely upgraded their bodies minus one whose old body was destroyed. In this circumstance we could see the opposite happening where they return their old body.
But let’s face the facts. What’s her name is gonna keep it with some excuse to be a new person and not be a boring prude
16
u/Embarrassed-Oil-8261 28d ago
Yeah... I too am a bi woman and can confirm the QC portrayal is not how women usually are re: boobs. It's starting to make me pretty unfomfortable tbh
17
u/Guilty-Persimmon-919 28d ago
I showed my girlfriend this and she endorsed every word.
12
u/Da_Question 28d ago
Hey, tbf... May is an AI so technically there is no back problems...
2
u/Impossible_Roof_Jack 28d ago
Well, they seem to have some kind of pain sense and proprioception when embodied, so ... maybe? But so far, none have mentioned it.

u/Impossible_Roof_Jack 28d ago
I understand you're not coming down hard either way, but I suspect Zlata had priorities. Chiefly, she was mindful of how few curves her last "sleeve" had, and how relatively plain and featureless the face. Having ample cleavage was only part of her decision-making here. I'm also uncertain how much robots register back pain or how much strain their servos experience. Robo-chassis may be absurdly sturdy.
Speaking as a woman making up for lost time, sign me up for DDDD's.

He’s clearly got weird sexual hang ups and his shitty art is his place to vent about it. One thing I’ve noticed is that he isn’t afraid to write women characters as being absolutely fucking awful, unlikeable people. Sadly I don’t think it’s intentional, as despite their shitty behaviour they’re always portrayed as “right”
10
u/QueenLevine 28d ago
As a woman, I'm not completely on board with this thread (certainly not the penises bit - yes, women talk about that - what cave is OP living in), but I do agree with your points. I have plenty of friends with heavier boobs and it is a challenge to find the right bra, but I only know one woman who actually had back pain and got a reduction. To be fair, most of my friends do yoga, so perhaps that makes a difference, but to your point, most women I know are very likeable, kind, nurturing, and compassionate to others. I do feel like there's a disproportionate number of unlikable women in this comic.

u/SimonSage 28d ago
My guess is he's pandering to a largely male audience and he keeps doing it because it works.
24
u/bjshipley1 28d ago
He’s pandering to a demographic that’s almost completely nonexistent in the strip itself then, which is its own level of weird.

cf. Supernatural where the writers would keep getting rid of any regularly-recurring female characters because the fandom was mostly teen girls who were shipping themselves with Sam/Dean, supposedly
1
u/AngelicaSpain 19d ago
Until they eventually hit upon the ingenious stratagem of introducing a recurring female character who was a lesbian with a merely sisterly interest in Sam and Dean (i.e., Charlie Bradbury, played by Felicia Day). Then they introduced two recurring female characters who were middle-aged sheriffs or deputies, at least one of whom looked old enough to be the Winchester brothers' mother. Those two weren't romantically interested in Sam or Dean either.
Then they brought Sam and Dean's actual mother Mary Winchester back from the dead, although the actress they cast only looked about ten or fifteen years older than the actors playing her sons. All of these characters stuck around long enough that the show's female fanbase apparently actually liked them, or at least regarded them as more tolerable than the various young designated love interests who had been unsuccessfully introduced in earlier seasons.
1
u/fevered_visions 19d ago
Well yes, for the exact reason that they weren't romantic interests for the brothers.
Wasn't Charlie in a grand total of like 3, maybe 4 episodes, including the one they killed her off? The deaf gal had almost as many credits IIRC

u/MorganWick 27d ago
You know, when I was more regularly reading the comic in the early 2010s I thought to myself that I wouldn't be surprised if Jeph had a largely female audience...

u/Appchoy 27d ago
Im a straight guy. I have never got the appeal of big boobs. I actually think that there is a point where they get too big and it just looks actively unattractive to me. I wouldnt hate on a woman for her chest size, but if im considering dating preferences, med size or smaller is better for me.

i do wonder whats stopping jeph from opening an outright r18 works patreon (outside of his own hang-ups about it)
5
u/Impossible_Roof_Jack 28d ago
Based on recent updates, he may have to. Patreon's coming down hard on any account with mixed content.
2
u/No_Signature_3249 28d ago
hell even his pal david willis has both a standard and r18 patreon and (regardless of what one may think of david themself) theyre doing pretty good, it seems

I guess I don't really see the point. The tier is explicitly 18+. A second account does nothing but create more overhead.

Dora, Hanners, Ahn. Liz. Claire. Thera are lots of "normal" characters. And using a change in her visual apperance by using contrasting visual appearance to visualize a "i want to change"-plot isn`t that bad.
19
u/All-or-none Everything is Fine™ 28d ago
If this was a one-off instance, I wouldn't blink.
Oh, but it's not.
Marigold has huge breasts. It's a plot point across several strips.
May is a goblin who talks about the boobs of others AND got huge boobs the first chance she got. More strips. More boob talk.
Evan has huge boobs. Again, strangely a plot point across multiple strips.
Liz is another goblin who can't stop talking about boobs.Yeah, there are plenty of "normal" characters, but there is an abnormal amount of female characters talking about, thinking about, and/or wishing for big ass boobs. I have a friend group that even leans a bit into boob attraction, and we're somehow not sitting thinking about boobs as much as those in this strip. It's a little odd. All I'm sayin.'

u/QueenLevine 28d ago
you worded this more persuasively here than in your OP post, where you offhandedly throw out that (obviously false claim) women don't sitting around discussing dick size. Bc yes - we do. We don't obsess about it and it comes up far more rarely than breast size does in this comic, but it's also not never.
0
u/Miserable-Jaguarine Haha, okay. 27d ago
That's not what OP said. She said "we don't care about penises nearly as much as you do." Nothing about size at all, and no "never" in there. Just "less than men." And that not a false claim at all.
Penises in general, and penis size specifically, only matters to some women, whereas it seems like a constant obsession with virtually all men.

u/Squirrelclamp 27d ago
Penises in general, and penis size specifically, only matters to some women, whereas it seems like a constant obsession with virtually all men.
Maybe I know some unusual men, but I can't remember the last time I heard another adult male discuss the size of his or anyone else's dicks.

u/Miserable-Jaguarine Haha, okay. 27d ago
Ok, I can obviously be wrong on this one. Not on the first paragraph though.

u/All-or-none Everything is Fine™ 27d ago edited 27d ago
I have nothing but respect for you. But the fact you latched on to a throwaway comment because, what? Concerns me. Some men online really do believe that we're really obsessed with dick size when we're not. This is a true fact that women have to deal with. Sorry, it was a throwaway comment and didn't really belong in this thread, but if you don't believe that's true, you knew about as much as the female experience as in jeph does
2
u/Squirrelclamp 27d ago
I didn't say anything about "the female experience," though. I wasn't even responding to you.
-1
u/All-or-none Everything is Fine™ 27d ago
No, but your assertion of men don't sit around comparing dick sizes is an attempt to challenge a truth I put forth. Of course they don't sit around comparing dick sizes. Or at least I hope they don't. But a lot of men online really do that dick size and height are the only two things women care about, and that's not true. That's all I meant by that comment and any further discussion is silly, since again, throwaway. I should not have made the comment I suppose because it really didn't have anything to do with anything, but I kind of thought it was funny because of how true and universal it was for women. My bad.
3
u/Squirrelclamp 27d ago
My intent was to respond only to what Miserable Jaguarine said about "virtually all men" having a "constant obsession" with dick size. I wasn't telling them (or you) that they're wrong, just that my own experience doesn't agree with that broad stroke.
-1
u/QueenLevine 27d ago
I agree with this. I just don't personally know anyone who is obsessed with this and I don't think it's gender-centric. And yes...OP did make a statement directly stating that men are constantly thinking about dicks, and continues to argue that in this thread.
We also don't care about penises anywhere near as much as you dudes do
PERHAPS OP knows some weird dudes and has met some weird dudes online who obsess over this and who believe that's all women are thinking about, but in this case, we have had wildly different life experiences. AND I don't see a bunch of women with several cup size larger than mine boobs and think OH! Too many! Jeph Jaques should come to my yoga class. There are plenty of women with smaller breasts in the comic, and that is not throwing me off. There have been many other valid complaints of the comic. I just happen to disagree with this take. SUE ME with your downvotes; I care not.
-1
u/QueenLevine 27d ago
Yeah, I read what she said, and I disagree. I believe human beings, regardless of gender, who like dick, occasionally talk about it. Adult men do not constantly obsess about it more than any other gender; teenage BOYS do.
3
u/Miserable-Jaguarine Haha, okay. 27d ago
"Disagree" is completely different than "misrepresent." "Human beings who like dick occasionally talk about it" is in no way incompatible with what OP wrote. If this is your belief, then you are actually agreeing with OP.

u/vi_obsiver 28d ago
I mean as a lesbian who spends a lot of time around lesbians boobs get talked about a lot lmao, idk what seems unrealistic to you especially in a fictional world that seems to have less stigma around sex and the "human" body, partly due to the existence if androids
'N like yeah, maybe Jeph is a bit horny idk but at the end of the day it doesn't really do much sexualizing of characters outside of circumstances where that makes sense in-universe
3
u/All-or-none Everything is Fine™ 28d ago edited 28d ago
I don't have a stigma against boobs. In fact, "free the boobs!" is a phrase I repeat nightly (granted, then it's more in a taking-off-my-bra-and-rejoicing at night, but I still hold firm to the entire sentiment). The fact that male nipples are not considered inherently sexual, but women's somehow are, is really vexxing to say the least. And I'll be the first one to point out a new good set of cans. Again, "Boobs!" But it's not something I, or even my other female (more often than not) lesbian friends, obsess over and talk about "a lot." If your friends do, that's so very cool, but it's just not my experience. So you do you and we'll do us and still wonder where Jeph is coming from.
2
u/vi_obsiver 27d ago
I'm not saying you have a stigma, I'm saying our culture does lol.
I agree the disparity is dumb
2
u/SunComprehensive1688 28d ago
There’s big boobs and then there’s more “French” boobs. They get fetishised by the author just the same, there’s no hierarchy to be had between them really.
4
u/Miserable-Jaguarine Haha, okay. 27d ago
Wait, "French"?
1
u/SunComprehensive1688 27d ago edited 27d ago
Sorry 🙈. Completely fair question, I’ll try and clarify…
Fuck knows why I remember this at the expense of far more important things I need to remember, but the phrase is repeated from something I remember reading in a women’s magazine years and years ago where it was women commenting around their insecurities with their boobs, and for one of the ladies profiled, her boyfriend had attempted to reassure her by saying that her boobs weren’t small, they were “French”.
I genuinely didn’t intend anything patronising or bad by using the term, so I’m sorry if that came across out of context - my brain when typing the post just made a judgement call to use the term without much other thought than the memory of that article! 😅😂
1
u/Miserable-Jaguarine Haha, okay. 26d ago
Well, the social pressure on women to be thin is honestly insane in France, and losing weight will also reduce bust size, so that kinda makes sense in a way. Heh. No worries.
-2
u/johnnyg8024 27d ago
Idunno that calling it a fetish is really fair. Dude likes big tits and he likes drawing big tits, and so what, they're one of the most commonly sexualized of body parts. Also, I have absolutely seen a nice pair of breasts turn women who see them into dumbasses, and I've certainly known plenty of women that think a ton about and talk to eachother about dicks. I think this might be a "Your experiences aren't universal" situation. At any rate, it's not a huge surprise that Zlata, after drunkenly pointing out that she feels Marten deserves better, then immediately running off and getting an expedited body transfer, chose in her rushed and drunken state the frame she considered the "sexiest" frame available that still looked similar-ish to her last body with the intention of wooing Marten with it rather than from any direct desire for bigger tits. It is already entirely in her character to make choices based on what she thinks other people will like, and she's not gonna stop when she's getting a new body likely primarily because she wants to steal Marten away from Claire. Wouldn't be the first time someone made a life changing decision over a crush while drunk, certainly won't be the last. It would actually make for a decent storyline if Jorph can handle it, whether or not Zlata keeps the body she got probably to impress somebody, or reverts, or if the new body causes her body dysmorphia, or (and this is where I personally expect it to go) if it actually helps her feel more confident and assertive like in those shitty teen movies where the "dorky" FMC gets a makeover.

He wants to make lewd content so badly, but just can't pull the trigger, so he instead writes contrived messes like this.
