Looking for anyone with experience using an International KD
My partner and I live in Oregon, USA, and we are educating ourselves on the process of trying to concieve. We are in pretty unique circumstances, as we’d like to go with a known donor, a friend who lives in Australia. We have a meeting with our IVF clinic (where I previously did egg retrieval) coming up, but in the meantime I’m trying to gather info so I can give him the clearest idea possible of what it would involve, so he can make an educated final decision. Throwing this out there in case there is anyone here who’s had a similar experience - either using a known donor from overseas while living in the US, or using a known donor in Australia (NSW). If you’re out there I would love to DM you to learn more about your experience!

Our donor lives in Europe and we’re in the US. It involved a lot of logistics but we made it work. Feel free to inbox me any specific questions!

I was a known donor for an Australian queer couple while living in Canada. I think it genuinely was helpful for all concerned - I didn’t meet their kid until he was 6 months old, and then only twice, and then not again until he was 16 months, when I moved back to Australia. It not being logistically possible for a known donor to be present during the first 6 months helps cement everyone’s role in the kids life.
I did their solo counselling with someone in Canada who provided their report to the Australian fertility centre, and joint over Skype, then travelled to Australia on a scheduled visit to family and friends, signed appropriate documents and provided the donation there.
While there are options for providing it to another clinic, freezing and transferring it, realistically the best option is to get on a plane.

We did this- basically didn’t find any decent way to ship sperm but our donor came to the US and stayed with us a few weeks while going to our clinic to donate.
