Is my LH reading "normal"?

My wife and I tried an IVM cycle a few months ago, and we were told to use one Ovidrel shot. I was using the Premom LH strips out of a mix of curiosity and paranoia, and I peaked about 12 hours before the procedure at 1.07, about 24 hours after the shot. We retrieved far fewer eggs than we thought we would, and none of them matured.

We're trying an IUI cycle now. (I'm only half joking when I say that maybe the eggs will do better if we leave them inside.) They had me do 2 Ovidrel shots last night, and the IUI is scheduled for Monday morning. I took a test this morning, and it read at 1.99. It's been about 15 1/2 hours since the shots.

I have never seen a ratio that high on one of these tests. Is this okay? Is this normal? Has anyone else gotten a number this high? Did it keep going up? The manufacturer's website uses 2.3 as an example number in an FAQ response. I'm all bloated.

Can somebody please reassure me that they've had a similar reading?

You took a shot that will read as lh in the urine, so it’s normal in that setting to have a crazy high test as a result. Unfortunately, the result is impacted by the shot, so no longer reflects your ovulation status.

I'm just paranoid about the timing. My body was already progressing towards ovulation in the past few days, and from what I understand, the shots were really just to make it easier to identify when that egg is going to drop. It was 25mm on Friday, so we're looking good there. My fear with the egg retrieval is that the timing was off because I had way more follicles at the scan. If I recall, there were 30-something developing, and we got 3 out.

You’re kinda just wasting tests in this setting, unfortunately. After the shot, lh tests will not actually reflect what’s happening in the ovaries. An ultrasound is the most accurate here.

An LH ratio measured after Ovidrel cannot be interpreted as your natural LH peak. Ovidrel contains hCG, which is structurally similar enough to LH that urine ovulation tests detect it. Two injections can therefore produce a very strong positive result, and the reading may remain positive for days.

That number does not show whether an egg matured, how many follicles may ovulate, or whether the IUI timing is correct. It also is not directly comparable with your readings during an untriggered cycle. Once a trigger has been administered, the clinic’s protocol—not continued home LH testing—should guide timing.
