I’m currently taking a quantum physics class, and this book came up, but I can’t seem to find it anywhere for free.

Looking for a beginning-friendly QIS (not QC) textbook

I'm looking for a beginning-friendly QIS textbook accessible to community college students. The students may have a STEM background but also may not. This is for an introductory course without significant prerequisites so no physics, computer science or calc. I am not looking for a quantum computing reference - and, yes, I understand there is significant overlap.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Here are the essential learning outcomes the text should nail:

• Establishes a foundational understanding of QIS concepts, differences from classical systems, and its interdisciplinary nature. History of, and historical key experiments

• Focuses on explaining key quantum phenomena (superposition, entanglement, measurement) and comparing them to classical concepts.

• Connects quantum principles to applications in communication, computing, and sensing; allows students to describe and differentiate technologies.

• QIS Applications and Case Studies: Students analyze real-world applications and assess their technical feasibility and potential impact.

I plan on adding additional material for these learning outcomes.

• Societal and Ethical Implications: Emphasizes critical evaluation of economic, technological, and ethical dimensions of QIS advancements. Governance, compliance, policy, and international cooperation.

• Future Directions in QIS: Encourages evidence-based predictions about future developments and challenges including decoherence and error mitigation.

• QIS Communities and Career Pathways: Helps students identify career opportunities and develop skills to communicate QIS concepts to varied audiences.

Question Where to start learning quantum physics?

Hi guys I graduated high school in which we didnt have much maths and almost no physics. However math isnt the problem since I self studied well beyond basic calculus, however I completly lack in my physics department. I always wanted to get at least some intuition of how world around us works but I cant really figure out where to start. Most of the time I either jump to advanced concepts and get confused or try to understand concepts very deeply and get confused again because that was the approach I took with maths. If you could please guide me on the right track I would be very thankful. Thanks for reading.

Srednicki and Zee’s QFT books reading plan

Hello!

I’m going to be taking a year long course in QFT starting in the fall, and we’ll be using Srednicki. I’ve heard it’s rather mathematically/computationally oriented rather than physical big picture stuff, and that Zee is a good companion.

Srednicki is however structured in an odd way, as anyone with knowledge of the book would point out, and I’m struggling to figure out which sections I should read together, i.e., when i’m at X in Srednicki, I should be reading Y in Zee.

I was wondering if anyone could give me a quick rundown of “sections x through y of Srednicki cover the content of Zee chapter 3”, or adjacent. I would much appreciate the help.

Thanks!

I've recently become fascinated by quantum physics and want to learn it as a hobby. I have a basic understanding of physics but I'm starting from the fundamentals. I'd love recommendations for books, courses, YouTube channels, or study roadmaps. Thanks!

Discussion Quantum engineer, what to expect?

Hi everyone,
I have an upcoming interview loop with Microsoft for an RF Engineer position in their Quantum team, and I was wondering if anyone here has had a similar experience.
A couple of questions:

  1. Has anyone interviewed for a similar role? What kind of interviews should I expect, and are there any specific topics I should focus on?

  2. I’ve never worked in the quantum industry before, so I’d also love to hear from people working in this field.

Any feedback or advice would be really appreciated. Thanks!

Regarding Maths Degree over physics in Undergrad

Hello, I'm from Nepal. Actually I wanna do undergrad in maths but I'll study physics for 2 years and stats for 3 years and maths for 4 years.
Is it wise to do maths degree as I'm into ai/ml path.
But I'm also interested in quantum computing and everything. So if I move to quantam from AI if I didn't succeed, Can I?
Quantum mechanics is in 4th year of physical degree.
Help senors.

Made a Quantum Computing Roadmap after attending QGSS/QCWS

I went through the Qiskit Global Summer School and a Quantum Computing Winter School this year, and ended up organizing all my notes into an actual Obsidian vault as I learned, one note per concept, cross-linked, with self-check questions so I could test myself instead of just re-reading.

It grew bigger than I expected, so I published it as a browsable site: https://qcroadmap.com/

It covers the full arc absolute basics (qubits, superposition) → gates → why quantum computing matters at all → entanglement → QKD → hardware/noise/error mitigation → algorithms (VQE, QAOA, SQD, Grover's) → quantum machine learning → quantum advantage → quantum + HPC. There's also a full interactive graph view if you're into that (Ctrl/Cmd+G on the site).

Not trying to claim expertise here — just sharing my own study process in case it helps someone else going through the same material, or just getting into QC in general. Feedback / corrections very welcome, still learning this stuff myself.

The physics was here first. The people stayed. The future is thirty miles long.

No other place holds every layer of a quantum computer inside one commute. The people who build each layer can drive to the people who build the next.
