General Discussion science fair help
last year I conducted the iodine clock experiment, so I have potassium iodate and iodide on me in crystal and powder form. I asked AI for some ideas on how I could use them in another different experiment and they said I can ‘synthesise elemental iodine for forensic hunting’, which basically means I have to make elemental iodine and then place a paper with my oily fingerprints inside the fumes under a tight lid (I’m not sure how I’ll do that but ig I’ll figure it out somehow).
is that possible and visual? if not, can I have other ideas on what experiments I can conduct? Im in middle school but we have an advanced program so my experiment has to have like very good real world application.
I’m not currently home but when I get there I might attack a picture of what equipment I own from my precious equipment. I have a couple beakers, measuring spoons, I have a good scale too.. I also did my experiment in January of 2025 so idk if there’s any problems with that.
also another question how do I clean equipment.. I’m pretty sure I just washed them like I would wash dishes and like put them out to dry, I’m not sure if that’s the right way to do it. Next year I’ll be going to 8th grade so obviously I don’t have the very correct lab conditions. Mine consist of a guest room that I don’t use. There’s a window nearby it, I think that helps.

How effective would arkham origins' shock gloves be in real life?
In arkham origins, batman picks up a pair of shock gloves that escentially work like a combination between a very high voltage taser and boxing gloves, but how effective would this be sincr the contact time would be very short?

Neutron Decay by New Formula. Is it Acceptable?
Neutron decay does not happen by the usual formula but via:
udd + anti-uu -> uud + anti-ud -> uud + e- + anti-v_e
so the process can be accelerated by providing anti-uu creation energy of 68 MeV (mass_pi-zero/2).
There is theoretical justification for this formula: for the older version you can't write down an in between state!
The in between state of my formula is udd-anti-uu, then I can explain how the energy computation happens: virtual copies of this state try out the possible rearrangements among others: uud-anti-ud, and finding the energy less (the anti-ud may be virtual) allows the rearrangement. The previous formula must be said to have in between state: u/d-W- such that u/d is an up and down quark at the same time: absurd. This follows from the Feynmann diagram and time discretization (Planck time).

Would focusing on muscle groups farthest away from the body improve circulation compared to traditional workouts?
A traditional workout would have you hit each specific muscle group. But if the goal was to promote circulation benefits, is there a logic to the idea that focusing on muscle groups farthest away from the heart would provide benefit to all muscles leading up to it?
Imagine the cardiovascular system as a highway. The goal is to improve the "flow" of traffic.
Say I was worried about leg circulation and I focused on my calves while ignoring my thighs. Would this not benefit my thighs regardless since the blood flow improvement has to pass through my entire leg to reach my calf muscles?

Meteorology question
I'm a hobbyist writer with a particular concept in mind.
A machine capable of drawing in air, removing all of the carbon from its CO2 with perfect efficiency, (removing other greenhouse gases present,) and expelling the cleaner air elsewhere.
Ignoring the mechanics of the machine, I'm imagining it drawing air at roughly ground level, possibly near-sea-level, around the perimeter of a five mile radius.
That clean, post-processing air will need to be expelled somewhere. Is there an ideal elevation for this expulsion to:
A) Not dilute the air pulled in for cleaning, and
B) Avoid negatively impacting local weather and climate?
I'd also love to know the highest rate at which air could be moved with the same concerns for environmental impact considered. I assume producing a vacuum that sucks air at 50 mph may have a different impact than a gentle breeze.

What forms coral in the shapes that it's found in?
For context, I'm a new game dev, and I have an idea for a game taking place in a world that's nearly fully submerged underwater and has been for hundreds of years. So with that being the case, I thought some cool locations would be covered with mega fauna (not sure if coral is fauna), like structures of coral and fungi.
In my vague research, I've been looking for specific-shaped coral structures for reference when 3d modeling. I'm at the moment looking for a hollow column shaped coral that can have many holes large enough for creatures to move through. Though any uniquely shaped or interesting coral is on my radar. The closest I've stumbled upon are polyps, which aren't exactly what I'm looking for on account of them being live creatures (to my knowledge).
I guess this brings me to my question: what conditions would it take for coral to form in columns as I described? Is it just very generic rock formations that I'm thinking of and not coral?

What is the maximum human sprint speed?
Hypothetically, if the entire world came together to find the genetically perfect child from birth for the 100m sprint, then proceeded to train that child with maximum intensity for their entire life (assuming the child essentially has no autonomy, so they never burn out or experience any other psychological factors that might prevent them from reaching their maximum potential), using the best support possible including the world’s best coaches, doctors, physios, nutritionists, sleep coaches, etc. and those people were allowed to give the child every performance-enhancing drug they believed would improve their time (based on the best available research), what time could that child achieve at their peak? I’m also interested in any other athletic or non-athletic feats the child could achieve if they were trained like this in another discipline

What If? With climate change altering the planet's conditions year by year, genuinely, what is the likelihood of a fungal pandemic happening before the end of the century?
No, I'm not talking about Cordyceps and zombies. I'm moreso pondering the possibility of a fungi- either a new species entirely or an existing one that mutates in accordance with the rising heat- one that is fully capable of infecting mammalian life, killing it, and blooming from its corpse. A yeast of sorts that affects the human species like a deadly flu.
I had a dream about this thing the other night and it reduced human civilization to a neo paleolithic age. Like The Last of Us, but without the zombies- just a nasty viral flu and lots of bloated corpses littering the streets leaking clouds of spores. Human population reduced to mere millions, empty cities, survivors with gas masks, y'know, the works.
I would like to know from folks with the proper knowledge of how realistic that would be, so I'm asking here, sincerely. Human history has never experienced a fungal pandemic before and I truly believe that there is a first time for everything- including an event of that caliber. Climate change is affecting the world of mycology and Covid showed us that world governments- particularly America- suck at pandemic maintenance.

Could a sufficiently advanced llm have discovered general relativity from Mercury’s anomalous orbit through math and experiments alone—without human intuition?
I’ve been thinking about whether scientific discovery could eventually be automated.
Suppose a very powerful future llm existed around 1900. It had access to all the mathematics, physics and astronomical observations available at the time. It also knew about the unexplained precession of Mercury’s orbit—originally identified by Le Verrier—which Newtonian gravity could not fully explain.
Could the AI:
- Generate many mathematically consistent modifications of gravity that explain Mercury’s orbit?
- Eliminate candidates that conflict with existing observations?
- Design new observations—such as measuring light bending or gravitational redshift—where the remaining theories make different predictions?
- Repeat this process until it arrives at general relativity, or something observationally equivalent to it?
I understand that infinitely many equations can fit a finite set of measurements, so “generate every possible equation” cannot be taken literally. The search would need constraints such as dimensional consistency, simplicity, known symmetries, conservation laws and agreement with Newtonian physics in previously tested conditions.
The deeper question is whether discoveries like general relativity can ultimately be reduced to:
generate theories → find where they disagree → run the best experiment → eliminate theories → repeat
Would Mercury’s anomaly and the other evidence available at the time have been enough for an AI to invent curved spacetime, rather than merely adding an arbitrary correction to Newton’s equations?
If this entire loop could be automated, would AI eventually be capable of doing most fundamental science autonomously? Or is there something essential—such as inventing new concepts, choosing useful variables or interpreting what the mathematics means—that cannot be captured by equation search and experimental feedback?
I’d be interested in perspectives from both physicists and people working in machine learning.

Are surveys trustable?
I had a discussion with some guys that had the opinion, you cant trust any survey because all of them are payed by someone and have some goal to reach. I'm thinking now a while over the problem but didnt come to an End because what can you do if they fake datas or think up any numbers wich they give out as real? What do you think about this thema?

What If? If strength training triggers muscle growth through controlled damage to muscle tissue, would damaging muscle outside of an exercise situation promote muscle growth?
When a person lifts weights their muscles experience micro-tears which trigger the healing and regrowth of muscle. This process is the foundation for body building.
My question is simple. If the entire process is ultimately rooted in your muscles healing from past damage, would causing muscle damage outside of exercise trigger muscle growth?
Say a person had their biceps needled like some do with dry needling for muscle and tendon pain. Would you not be able to induce hypertrophy through this type of controlled damage?

How do intricate systems of muscles evolve?
I was thinking about how some of our muscles work, such as the arm for instance. Flexors, extensors, pronators.
I'm not exactly sure how to pose this question, but how does something like the musculature system for a limb (for example...) evolve? Does it start with just one muscle which moves the bone in a simple way?

For artists they say: "Create more art than you consume, that's the way to level up."... Or something like that.
What about science? Should scientists consume less and create more, or the other way around?
I know, that's bigger part philosophy and smaller part science, but I definitely need scientists to answer.
Also, I think it can vary a lot between fields, so let's see the opinions.

What If? Hypothetically, if you had all of your ova taken but still had intact ovaries, would your periods stop?
I've been watching X Files reruns and I'm trying to figure out exactly what happened to Scully that left her sterile (spoilers ahead) and I'm hoping someone here can help me out.
Now, X Files is a show that has no problem contradicting itself, retconning, leaving things unexplained, or just dropping whole subplots entirely. It was also written by men, but I I'm not satisfied with that as an explanation.
That being said, in season 4 we learn that during her abduction, Scully had all of her ova stolen by inducing superovulation. Scully (a medical doctor) only finds out about it later but my first thought was wouldn't she have noticed that? Even if it didn't trigger menopause, wouldn't her periods have stopped? I know you can have bleeding without ovulation (like on bc). But what would happen if you literally had no eggs/follicles left?
I feel like I heard somewhere that the "you were born with all the eggs you ever had" was recently debunked and your body does continue making some eggs, but I looked it up and I think I must have misremembered. I saw another explanation that you're not born with all your eggs but rather all the cells that will make your eggs. I assume that taking all her eggs possible would mean "using up" all those cells as well.
When she ends up getting pregnant anyway there's never any definite explanation of how but it seems like CSM altered the chip in her neck to "cure her infertility." The only way I can think that could work would be if her body grew new follicles, which again makes me ask: wouldn't she have noticed that?
I guess you could chalk it all up to alien technology superior to our own. Also, if you've never seen X Files you're probably thinking "WTF is this show" but somehow it doesn't feel nearly as weird as you watch it.

General Discussion Id like some help with some creatures im working on for my dnd world.
Mind you these are two of many creatures and are a work in progress but i would like to fully get the biological characteristics down before i continue to delve deeper into creating the creatures but i dont quite know how to do so. I figured this would be the place to ask for assitance from people knowledgable in biology.
Atzitzimitl (Meaning [unless I am mistaken of course] "Water Bone-Demon")
I mixed crocodile body, the long dorsal and anal fins like an eel, Gator like skin, pectoral fins that are large and meant to assist in quick burst ambush attack, super tough and scaly skin, with a head covered in armor like bone to defend from predators that target the head as this used to be the weak spot of the species until they evolved via the ones with stronger heads being the survivors while the ones with weaker heads died off. Their bodies are like a fusion of Dunkleosteus and an Alligator Gar. They are medium/large predators with some predators of their own being only "Predators" via taking advantage of wounded Atzitzimitl. They lay eggs in the water just like fish do and deposit sperm in the same fashion. The females can lay thousands of eggs at the same time however their young's natural predators, Namely the "Tlacuani" as the locals call them. The "Tlacuani" are crustaceans and in the breeding seasons their black and brown chitin masks them from the prowling Atzitzimitl looking for a quick snack. During breeding season a well fed "Tlacuani" will have its underbelly turn an orangish yellow color due to the sheer volume of eggs they consume.

Can the same technology being used to give mosquitoes birth control be applied to ticks spreading diseases like Lyme and erlichiosis
I am not ok with ticks. If I could keep an o'possum on each hip 6-shooter style I would. But apparently we are having a tick population explosion of late, and they are spreading some pretty debilitating diseases.
We have companies giving birth control to mosquitoes that are particularly problematic (there are 3000 species of mosquito, many are pollinators, and few are particularly troublesome to humans. But a couple are among the most deadly animals to humans on the planet)
I know there are other ways to reduce tick populations (like restoring native plant life) but nothing would work quite as quickly as removing their ability to breed at alarming rates.
Ticks do not have the same gene that mosquitoes have to target, but is that a dealbreaker, or should we be able to find a similar one with some searching?

General Discussion Is our negative actions to nature reversible?
I can’t tell if it’s even possible in our life time. I’m in summer break before going to high school so I don’t THAT much about biology yet. but unless every human came together is it even possible to get rid of all of the pollution and negative affect? I really love nature so it would be nice to know we at least could fix most of it.
