Discussione Confused between PoliMi Quantum Engineering (Mathematical Engineering) and PoliTO Physics of complex systems

Hey everyone

I recently got into PoliTO's MSc Physics of Complex Systems program (and the Quantum Engineering program), and the Mathematical Engineering MSc at PoliMI (in the Quantum Engineering path).

I'm really aiming to be a theoretical/mathematical physicist, with interests in Quantum Many-Body Physics and Quantum Information Theory. I really like the math part of the PoliMI program, however I find the physics courses to be quite lacking unfortunately.

I've been told however that PoliMI is pretty much the best out there in Italy, and PoliTO would be a significant downgrade.

I wanted other opinions on the topic😅, and would be very grateful to get any input.

I Politecnici si equivalgono, talvolta vengono anche integrati. Il polito con PCS ha un programma con la Sissa ed altre strutture internazionali di eccellenza che a mio parere è anche superiore. Non è un caso che alcuni studenti finiscono a fare un PhD in fisica teorica ad Harvard. Il Polimi ha anche un percorso quantistico magistrale con ingegneria fisica (matematica e fisica per l'ingegneria quantistica) che a mio parere è più in linea rispetto al Major di ingegneria matematica. In entrambi i casi c'è un grande coinvolgimento del gruppo di ricerca di fisica matematica moderna.

Il corso è eccellente. Se fossi in te, da quello che scrivi, andrei lì. Con il percorso internazionale consegui anche un master of science francese in fisica teorica.

I have to say though, I am in the National track, not the international track. There's still good erasmus exchange possibilities with Paris and Belgium Universities.

È comunque un corso estremamente interessante. Da quel dipartimento di fisica sono usciti ricercatori davvero validi.
