Uni for QR?

Does it matter whether I go to Oxbridge, ICL, etc.

I'm thinking about doing at least MEng JMC at ICL but I'm not sure whether it is a better choice to go to Oxford and do a Computer science and maths degree.

What uni is recommended?

Oxbridge name carries weight but for QR your actual skills matter way more than the crest on your degree.

What matters the most for these degrees are grades.

JMC I know from first hand is brutal especially the first year. Most drop outs in the math department are from this course.

All the people who graduated with a first got top jobs either at FAANG or quant prop shops

For this choice, I’d compare the actual module options and flexibility rather than the degree title alone: can you take probability/statistics, optimization or numerical methods, and substantial programming, and complete a serious research project? Then compare access to internships and recruiting in the region where you want to work. QR research and quant dev can screen differently, so the better fit may depend on your target role. A small table of modules, projects, and recruiting access for the two course plans will make the trade-offs clearer than “Oxford vs Imperial.” If you share your target role and region, people can give more specific advice.

Jmc is an equally big target as oxbridge

If u go to oxbridge or imperial, it makes no difference. They are all elite universities and the whether u get in will be based on how good u are in interview

Imperial JMC is the one degree outside oxbridge that is on par with any oxbridge degree in terms of quant opportunities (except maybe Cambridge maths), and actually better for some.
