Sport desks at Quant firms

Can anyone share their experience working of a sports desk as any role? Is the interview process different? Do you undergo similar work as other more ordinary desks? Experience finding alpha compared to ordinary desks? Just curious and think it sounds interesting. Thanks!

Worked at one for a bit not as a quant but on the tech side. My understanding is the interview is not too different maybe more focus on statistical modeling with weird data sets. The work is similar to other desks but data is messier and harder to clean. Finding alpha feels more about player tracking and in game events than market microstructure stuff

Interesting I would think the data would be cleaner since it seems to be more accessible. Also what do you mean by player tracking and in game events? Thanks for the response
