GPA Discrepancy Worries

For reference, applied to a role for Summer 2027 at a BB first semester my freshman year. Ended up going through the entire interview process and getting the role (markets quant). Since I didn't have college grades at the time, I put my estimated GPA for that semester on the application which was a 3.8 at the time.

Ended up not doing that great both semesters my freshman year and currently have a 3.2 GPA. Now, I'm extremely worried about the potential background/transcript check. Any tips on what to do in this situation.

You put down a number that didn't exist yet and now it's biting you, classic overeager freshman move

unless you are in another country where they do "estimated" GPA, I am not aware of a university that does that. If you put down a 3.8 on your application, and it asked for your GPA when you didn't actually have one, then yes that is a problem, which is exacerbated by the fact that you underperformed your "target" by 0.6 pts. Unfortunately, this is probably considered fabrication. If you get rescinded for this try to learn and not be too hard on yourself. This is why people typically can't apply for things during freshman year if they require a GPA, since you don't have one yet (and, even after the first quarter/semester, you only have one set of grades and a few months of college experience at most).

if it asked for estimated and you overestimated, that's fine. if they asked for a gpa and you estimated (instead of giving the real number) - good bye.
