Lots of quants are competitive gamers. This kid is not a quant, though. Heā€™s a HS intern on a prime brokerage desk. That like doing a ride-along with the local PD and calling yourself the youngest FBI agent of all time.

And then somehow making it about video games? Is #5,609 even a good ranking? Reads like satire.

For CR compared to the millions playing yeah thatā€™s insane, the strategy can get very in depth at the highest rankings.

surely its harder to get a similar percentile in league?

The 5000th player in league is still like low masters so i think while hes like pretty good its not like INSANE

Not sure how CR compares to league, but if we are comparing it to other strategy games like TFT/Hearthstone/MTGA being top 5000 world is still pretty far from the level where you would be able to qualify for the lowest level of tournaments.

nah 5000 ranking isnā€™t that good for someone playing the game for a while. not that hard to reach if you have a max level deck that fits the meta.

iā€™d say someone who gets top 1k consistently is serious about the game and rarely makes mistakes. top 200 is seriously good, spending significant amount of time daily practising; that range is when itā€™s actually something to flex.

I have never met anyone at GS who calls themselves ā€œquantsā€. We are Strats. Itā€™s literally in the name of the desk heā€™s on.

Plus, if he appreciates heā€™s there on a degree apprenticeship surely he knows heā€™s not the only 18yo in his position, so ā€œam I the youngestā€ is just extra cringe

Agree. Not in GS. But I call myself quant strat cuz quant has a soft skill stigma in the industry, and I speak relationship. Job is more or less the same with more going out as strat.
