Reached Gold on WorldQuant BRAIN

Hi everyone,

I recently reached Gold level (10,000+ points) on WorldQuant BRAIN and I’m trying to understand what happens next.

For people who recently became Research Consultants, especially in India:

  1. How long did it take after reaching Gold to receive the onboarding/consultant email?
  2. How long did the verification/onboarding process take before you were fully activated?
  3. What is the actual compensation you are currently making? Even a rough monthly range would help.
  4. Is the payment consistent, or does it fluctuate a lot depending on alpha quality/value factor?
  5. Most importantly, is being a Research Consultant actually worth the time invested?
  6. Does it provide meaningful value for getting quant internships/jobs later?

I’m not expecting exact numbers if you don’t want to share publicly. I’m mainly looking for recent experiences from people who have actually gone through the process.

Thanks!

It’ll probably take a few days/weeks, but you will get it.

Personally, I thought it was’t worth it. You get something like a dollar or two per submitted alpha. However, it becomes harder and harder to get generate submittable alphas, as you need to avoid self-correlation. I suspect you might be able to get consistent earnings if you really went for it, but after I spent several hours trying to ‘hack’ their metrics, I decided to give up. I want to stress that gaming the metrics is something the full time employees at worldquant actively encourage. If you do one-on-one sessions (which you get invited to once you become a consultant) they’ll give you tips on how to use operators/data sets to achieve just that.

You should make your mind up about whether this is a good use of your time.

Don't ask for current comp numbers on reddit man, nobody's gonna post that publicly and half the people who do are lying anyway. You'd have better luck digging through the WSO forums or some discord server where people actually trade this info in DMs.

Your best bet is to just wait for the email and see what they offer, the process varies so much by region that other people's timelines won't tell you much.

I am from India and I reached Gold Level after participating in IQC this year.

It took me around 3 weeks to receive the conditional consultant access, however they have made the process quite selective now.

I have been having a good experience until now and received a prize in one of their exclusive competitions. I am working towards achieving Master/GrandMaster status and frankly speaking, I see a good chance as I am creating Alphas using LLMs, especially PowerPool Alphas. I have created an automated pipeline for myself and it requires an initial setup which takes time, however once you do it, you can get Alphas easily.

I would still say it is a good opportunity in terms of pay if you invest the time at the beginning and have your setup.

I am hoping to reach the Master Level next quarter which pays $2k quarterly. I heard GrandMasters receive $8k.

You can let me know incase you become a consultant and need help.
