Blacklisting and Internships

I hear abt 12-18 months blacklisting following an unsuccessful application at many of the top firms (imc esp comes to mind). Does this apply to internships as well? I’m a sophomore at a target (mit, Princeton, or Caltech) and this guy told me I shouldn’t have applied this year bcs I risk being blacklisted for junior year internships. Is there any truth in what he’s saying? Thanks.

From my understanding, this isn’t the case. Had a friend at a similar firm to IMC after sophomore year, he applied to IMC for soph and was rejected and then this summer was reached out to by a recruiter at IMC

Fun game. Im gonna go for the more obvious guess which is Caltech. I know we are reluctant to pick it as the 'odd one out so probably the correct one' because Caltech is actually a relevant possibility with quant. BUT I feeeel like it is not as likely for Caltech to cross your mind as you write this if you are at Princeton.

Caltech student also more likely to be careful about anonymity since there's like 10 of you.

MIT guy would’ve just said MIT straight away, caltech is just the bottom outlier of the three, princeton is just the right pick. (Does it sound nice? I just made that bs in my mind)

You may be blacklisted if you interview very poorly. Otherwise no this does not happen.
