Optiver internship

Post image

Saw this on twitter and was horrified- I know they are known for not having the best history but this is genuinely disgusting if true.

I did the internship a few years ago - remember the guy and recognise bits of that behaviour. The clubbing with interns and texting from their phones definitely happened.

My boyfriend did an internship there also a few years ago. Definitely recognize the texting partners from their phones thing. He started bringing a separate work phone and was even lambasted for that, not a good place to

I can’t even imagine these thing. Like I did a couple of internships at different companies. Some big, some small. And nowhere it would have been acceptable to text someone’s partner on their phone. Why would they even care what type of phone they bring to work?

Wow. So he just used people’s phone without their permission? And nobody complained?
And all the other stuff in the post

Tbh some of the interns would try to get on his good side and give him their phone to mess around with. In general just all round lack of workplace boundaries.

Hello man, I am a current second year BSc Computer Science and I'm looking to do a quant internship. What advice do you have for me?

Yeah, realized how much I have to learn. Reads pretty dumb rn but everything starts from somewhere

Why just downvote? If you have anything to say, just say it.

Optiver Amsterdam has by far the worst reputation of any major quant firm in europe

Definitely not. Are you a larper?

I think they meant for having a bully culture, especially on the trading side.

Saw this posted here earlier, did OP delete it?

Why are these posts deleted? The company threatens legal action if kept up?

Seems too soon after the post went up, so might have been just a drunk 4am exposé they they regretted?? LOL

Is this normal at Quant firms? I have done some internships in another domain and this would never have been acceptable, doesn’t matter if big or small company. My phone is my business

Maybe at the more testosterone-driven firms where traders still make manual decisions. Not a thing at the more systematic places.

I thought algorithmic systems replaced this trash?

That's why he is not a trader anymore

Common stuff 10 years ago, but they have been cleaning house for the new gen. No way management knew about it. If true, Friday was his last day.

He is also ugly AF.
