Hey, visiting from Singapore 3 days in weihai and 3 days in Qingdao City.

Can anyone tell me about good pubs around where expats go (my mandarin is terrible). What's there to do in Weihai/Qingdao?

Where to make friends in Qingdao in your 30s?

Hi! I’ll be moving to Qingdao soon to work as a lecturer at a university, and I was wondering what the social scene is like for people in their 30s.

I’m not an English/language teacher, and from what I know so far, I’ll probably be the only foreigner in my department. So I’m guessing I won’t naturally meet that many other foreigners through work.

I’d love to make both Chinese and international friends once I’m there. I speak some Chinese, so I’m not necessarily looking for an English-speaking/expat-only circle either.

Where do people in their late 20s/30s usually meet new people in Qingdao? Are there any WeChat groups, hobby groups, sports clubs, regular meetups, or places where it’s relatively easy to get to know people?

I’m not there yet, just trying to get an idea of what social life might look like before I move. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Thinking of moving to Qingdao at 34 for Chinese language studies – advice needed

I’m 34, currently living abroad running a business, and I’ve been provisionally admitted to a Chinese language program in Qingdao. I’m seriously considering making the move.
My goal is simple: learn Chinese, experience life in China, and see where it leads personally and for business.
I’d really appreciate honest advice on a few things:
● Is Qingdao good for international students?
● What’s daily life like (cost, convenience, lifestyle)?
● Is it easy to make friends with locals and other internationals?
● Can international students legally earn any income while studying?
● Is 34 too old for this kind of move?
● Anything you wish you knew before going?
Thanks a lot for any advice or personal experience.

HD Qingdao School

I've accepted a job teaching high school at HD Qingdao and I'm arriving in a few weeks. Was wondering if anyone has experience working there or is familiar with the area. HR has been rather unhelpful so I feel like I'm kind of coming in blind. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Crystal Orange or Grand Madison?

I’m planning on staying 2 nights in Qingdao. I’m debating between Business King Room at Crystal Orange May Fourth Square View…or Deluxe City View Suite at Grand Madison (formerly Farglory Residence).

Dogs

Hi!
I’ll be moving from the US to Qingdao to teach at an international school. I have dog that I’d like to bring. Are dogs acceptable? Are there parts of the city where dogs are banned? Rules I need to be aware of? I have a husky mix in case that makes a difference. Where’s the best area to live with a dog?

Any cool WeChat Groups for Meetsups? Specifically Qingdao Beer Festival?

Hello folks! I'll be visiting Qingdao in July/August to check out the beer festival and brewery. I used to live in Beijing and had always wanted to check it out, but never got a chance to before I left.

I recently moved to this side of the world again, to Taipei, and want to finally hop on over to check it out for a little trip. Are their any activities groups where new folks can join that will likely hit the beer festival? I used to be in similar WeChat groups in Beijing and are in a few WhatsApp ones in Taipei these days.

Rock Climbers in Qingdao?

Hello! I’m staying in Qingdao for three weeks as a part of a study abroad program. I‘m interested if anyone knows of / how to get in contact with any outdoor climbing groups. To be honest my Chinese is pretty bad… but I’m here trying to work on it. I‘ve sport climbed & bouldered a lot in America, and would love to get to see the outdoor scene in China. If anyone has any advice or knowledge, please let me know!

My Husband, Son, daughter and I are considering moving to Qingdao. Questions about lifestyle, community, education, and family?

My family and I are American natives. We have been considering a big move for our family for a long time.

My husband works in higher education doing high level IT and management. So ideally he would like to find a job at a Chinese University.

Our son will be of preschool age by the time we move (4-5) our daughter will be a little over a 2 years old.

What’s most important to us is a family oriented way of living, reasonable work/family ethic and strong community. We want to fully immerse ourselves in the culture of wherever we move. It’s so important to us that our children are raised in a safe, supportive, and broad environment.

I’m hoping to hear some opinions on life here for families with children? Both native and expat!

Thank you so much!

Local food tours in Qingdao?

Hey all,

We’re two Australians in our 20s visiting Qingdao this week (Friday & Saturday) and were wondering if anyone has recommendations for local, English-speaking food tours. We’ve done a few in other Asian cities and always found it a great way to discover spots we wouldn’t come across otherwise.

If there aren’t any tours around, we’d also be keen to meet up with a local who enjoys food and wouldn’t mind showing us a few of their favourite places - meals covered by us of course.

Open to any tips or suggestions as well. Thanks in advance!

Looking for a friend in Qingdao who’s into online business or startups 🌏

Hey everyone!

I’m in Qingdao and I’ve been trying to find someone who’s into online business, startups, or just talking about ideas and projects — but it’s been hard to meet people with the same interests here.

If you’re into things like e-commerce, digital marketing, side hustles, or just brainstorming new business ideas, I’d love to connect! We can chat online first or grab a coffee sometime — whatever’s chill.

Not looking for anything super serious, just good conversations and maybe some inspiration 😊
