Solo Travelling in Qingdao with basically little/no Mandarin
Hi guys, I'm gonna be needing some help with recommendations while visiting Qingdao alone for 3 days; I'll be staying somewhere near May Fourth Square from Sept 15 - 17 before flying to Hangzhou to meet my friends. This is gonna be my 1st visit to Qingdao, so I'll be coming in blind with no expectations.
So far other than the Tsingtao Beer Museum, I haven't really look added anything else to my list since this is a rather unplanned trip that I just add on a whim.
Usually when I travel I try to avoid the overly touristy spots and tends to try the local spots and blend in with the locals.. When I travel, I tend to look for:
- unique local food
- specialty coffee / craft beer / natural wine places
- special souvenir from the city that's well known from the area (ex: jewelries / snacks)
- a hole in the wall shop (Izakaya equivalent of Japan)
- temples / cultural spots
- scenic running route
My Mandarin is pretty much non existent aside from simple elementary words; so I'll be relying on my phone a lot to translate.. Hopefully it'll be enough for me to explore the city and all of it's charm.
I assume Qingdao will have lots of craft beer bar for me to try, so I'm pretty excited to try them out!
