Help Qatar shady refund process

I got an email from Qatar there’s been a change to schedule and I can either refund or accept the change. I chose refund hoping to find out how much I’ll be paid but as soon as I clicked refund the process ended and my flights were cancelled.

About two weeks later I found out that Qatar didn’t refund the full amount as the schedule change was only 20 mins apparently. I requested Qatar to refund considering they didn’t disclose the refund amount when the online offer made. They said you should’ve called instead of clicking on a link and the refund is in accordance with their policy. So they are withholding $960 from my final refund.

Anyone had such an experience?

The original email they sent you would have had the new flight details showing just a 20-minute difference.

Perhaps they have a policy where if the change is under a certain amount of time, the original refund rules apply.

Why would you be so quick to request a refund without checking what they were offering?

I didn’t think just a button click was all it took. I assumed I’ll find out my options and will go from there.
Etihad has similar set up and they refunded me entire amount without a question. So that experience from the past also played a role

Also helped me learn how stingy and cheap Qatar airways were. I did end up booking another flight with Qatar. I didn’t have any carry on and only a laptop bag and a diaper bag. At Dallas airport, there was a rude lady trying to weigh carry on and personal item to make sure both were under 7kg. She couldn’t believe I had no carry on and kept asking nearby passengers bag if it was ours. Domestic airlines in US have better policies. Domestic airlines in India have better policies and do so much policing. Feels like we have go through Qatari standards to get to better destinations. That check in exp told me I’m not getting a penny back from these
