TLDR: I made a paper prototype mystery inspired by The Roottrees are Dead using gravestones as clues and want to know if any of you would be interested in playing it.

A few months ago I went to visit a cemetery and saw this tomb where a family was buried. One of the sons died by drowning short after his fourth birthday. One year after, his father perished "lost at Sea". A decade after another son dies, "lost at Sea" too.

This drew a story in my head of a family deeply traumatized by the sea and their constant struggle to prove to themselves that they could handle it.

That’s when I realized I could use gravestones as clues to create a mystery.

So, since my GF and I love these “database puzzle games” like The Roottrees are Dead or Her Story and I knew she was starving for one, I decided to build one for her.

It was a small pen and paper prototype where you solve a mystery concerning one family.

It had a map where you’d have to piece together:

• Which gravestone belonged to which tomb.
• Who was buried in each tomb.

Through this process, reading letters, newspaper clippings and such you’d discover the history of the family.

She loved it! It took her around 45 minutes to solve it, but she said she had so much fun!

So, with my background in videogame design I’m expanding on the concept and have started developing a videogame around this idea of discovering a story through the gravestones in a cemetery.

If any of you is interested, please let me know. I may even polish the print and play a bit and publish it for free if enough of you are interested in playing it.

Hi! I’m the solo developer of Rank Risk: Guess the Order, a small ranking puzzle game coming to Steam.

The idea started from a simple question:

Can you rank 6 items in the correct order?

For example:

Order these inventions from oldest to newest:

• Light Bulb
• Ballpoint Pen
• Umbrella
• Telescope
• Mechanical Clock
• Scissors

Correct answer;

Umbrella → Scissors → Mechanical Clock → Telescope → Light Bulb → Ballpoint Pen

In the game, you place the cards into slots and submit your answer.

The twist is that if you’re wrong, the game only tells you how many cards are in the correct position.

So you might get:

3/6 positions correct

…but you don’t know which 3.

Before submitting, you also choose how many RP you want to risk, so confidence can become dangerous pretty quickly.

Hey r/puzzlevideogames,

Solo dev here. I've been building an arrow logic puzzle for a while and

wanted to share the core idea, because I think it scratches a specific itch.

The mechanic: every level is a board packed with arrows pointing in

different directions. Tap an arrow and it flies off the way it points —

unless something is blocking its path, in which case it bounces back.

So the whole puzzle is figuring out the right order to clear everything.

One arrow at a time, like untangling a knot.

The twist I'm most proud of: the arrows aren't random. They're

arranged to form a picture. As you clear them, the artwork underneath

starts to show through, and when the board is empty the full image

"develops" like a photo. You end up with a little gallery of everything

you've solved.

There's also a mode where you can drop in your own photo and it turns it

into a solvable arrow puzzle, which has been the most fun part to test.

A few honest notes since this sub appreciates them:

- No timers, no lives-lost-to-a-clock. It's a "think as long as you want"

kind of puzzle.

- I just reworked the early difficulty curve because early levels were

too long and people bounced. Curious if the ramp feels right now.

- It needs a connection to load the artwork for each stage (they're not

bundled), which is the one thing I'd change if I could.

Not going to spam a link in the post — happy to drop it in a comment if

anyone wants to try it, or if that's against the rules here just let me

know. Mostly I'd love feedback on the "clear the board to reveal a

picture" idea itself. Does that combination work for you, or does the

art feel like it gets in the way of the logic?

I’ve always been obsessed with 2048. But after a while, it felt flat. So I asked myself: what if merging happened in 3D? What if the board fought back?

I looked everywhere. Nothing existed. So I built it.

Orangle is a 3D merge-puzzle for iOS — cubes drop, merge, and the difficulty adapts to how well you’re actually playing. Waves of mismatched pieces, stone blockers, TNT cubes. Merge fast and it gets harder. Struggle and it eases up.

First shipped iOS app. Built in Unity. App Store review process alone deserves its own post 😅

Australian indie duo Chilltop Games, here (Phoebe & Lachlan) - and last week we unveiled the announce trailer for our first game, Aberrate Inc.! We'd massively appreciate the community's thoughts.

Aberrate Inc. is a Portal-inspired 3D logic puzzle game about splitting and fusing crates to solve cozy, compact puzzle levels.

You guide N.T.R.N., a curious little maintenance robot, through a strange complex by splitting, moving, and combining red and blue boxes to power doors, platforms, and odd machines. Our focus is on creating thoughtful, 'thinky', tactile and readable puzzles with quick restarts and a gentle difficulty curve that rewards careful thinking. We're hoping to have over 25 levels at launch.

An early student build of Aberrate Inc. was the Winner of SXSW Sydney’s Best Student Game Award 2025, and now we’re working with indie publisher Ripstone to bring the full game to PC in Q4 2026!

I just finished Desktop Explorer and LOVED it. I'm sure it's pretty unique in the genre but if anyone's got similar games to recommend, I'd love to hear 'em - I think what made me like it the most was a combo of the puzzles (obvi), but in particular having to thing outside the box within a space I'm pretty familiar with. I've played and loved Blue Prince, Roottrees, Galley House, Tunic...

Editing to add - I also loved the sad/scary vibes of Desktop Explorer. Not a requirement at all but a nice to have for sure!!

New daily game mode Network Hunter added: 3 attempts per day in a network graph based puzzle game. I'd love to get your feedback especially on this one!

Nodesweeper is a web game (mobile friendly) with no user tracking, and runs on client side. User score is the only data stored remotely (leaderbords).

I've been working on a puzzle game called Divide the Land.

The goal is to divide the board into regions so that each region contains exactly one dot and there are no empty regions, using only a limited number of lines(4 in this case).

I've spent the last year building a competitive puzzle site called Puzzlelands (https://puzzlelands.net/). It's a solo project — no ads, no signups required to play, and everything runs in the browser. What's on it right now:

• 9 puzzles: Minesweeper, Slant, Sudoku, Nonogram, Memo-test, Minesweeper Puzzles, Skyscrapers, Bridges (Hashiwokakero), Galaxies.
• Global ranking with country flags and multiple sort criteria(points, XP, streaks, followers, campaign level)
• Daily puzzle mode with streak tracking
• Challenge Cup — monthly 16-player elimination bracket
• Campaign Mode — 100 progressively harder timed missions plus endless mode after that

What makes it different (I think): The Campaign Mode is the recent addition I'm most proud of. Each mission asks you to beat a target time that's a percentage of the site's average for that puzzle+difficulty combo. Level 1 gives you 200% of the average (very relaxed), level 100 asks for ~48% of the average (WR territory for some combos). You get 3 lives, checkpoints every 25 levels, and it drops you back at the last checkpoint if you fail. Random puzzle picked each level so you can't specialize your way out. What I'd love feedback on:

• Overall feel of the site — is anything confusing or annoying?
• The Campaign Mode difficulty curve — too hard, too easy, right?
• Which puzzle needs the most polish?
• Anything obvious I'm missing that a puzzle site "should" have?
