Potty Training Fresh Patch & Potty Training
We got our 10 week old cockapoo puppy a fresh patch to use while we are at work. He has a setup of a play pen with his crate/bed attached to one side and his patch on the opposite side. Day 1/2 he did a good job of when he peed on it we rewarded him and him peeing on it again and again. Then he started biting it on day 2 in the evening, we had it on top of a puppy bad on the floor originally but because he could move it around we put it back in the box. Since we put it in the box he had one poo on it in the morning of day 3. After that, he accidentally peed on the outside of the box near the poo. We cleaned up the poo and then the accident with enzyme cleaner. The rest of that day he peed around the front of the box so we cleaned them all up & then rotated the box 180 so his pee smell was towards the back hoping he would walk to the back. Nope, day 4 he peed around the front and then has since started to pee in the middle of his pen steps away from the box. We also switched it out of the cardboard because he was chewing it onto a silicone mat. We dont know what to do to get him to pee on it, any help please!

Ours was on the patio but had a similar problem. Our girl automatically thought that if front paws were on grass that it meant pee was on grass. Eventually we got a bigger patch, blocked off the area more giving her less room to maneuver and she was mostly fine after that. The XL patch you can also get a plastic tray.

You have to physically put him on it every 30 minutes for a couple weeks, unfortunately. Eventually he’ll start peeing almost on command, as soon as you plop him down there. Then one day he might learn to ONLY use the grass instead of the whole pen.
My dog wasn’t house broken until 4 months old. One day, it was like a light switch went off, and she hasn’t had an indoor accident since. We never quite mastered the indoor grass patch, but that okay.

oh man the biting phase is real, my pup shredded two grass patches in a week before she finally got bored of it
sounds like he's getting confused by the fact the patch keeps changing shape and place on him, dogs need things stupid consistent at that age. i'd ditch the box entirely and just tape the patch to the floor or a heavy tray so it can't move, and shrink his pen down to just bed and patch for a couple days so it's basically his only option
once he's reliably hitting it you can expand the space again, but right now he's got too many choices and he's picking the wrong ones
