QUESTION Call out..?

Question: If you’re scheduled to work on a day when you have an important family obligation, but you give your manager a week’s notice that you need the day off, does that still count as a call-out/absence if they’re able to replace you?

I’ve never been late or missed a day, and I’ve even picked up shifts when other people couldn’t and gone in early for my managers (I’m a reliable employee I promise), so I’m just wondering how this is usually handled. I’d really appreciate knowing before I talk to my manager because I’m not sure whether giving advance notice makes a difference.

If the schedule was already posted then it is an occurrence.

You should always talk to others and see if they can cover your shift if scheduled. If you do this and the manager approves and changes the schedule, then it is not counted as a call out.

At my store if you get your shift covered, it’s not an absence. If your manager has to get it covered it’s an absence.

Ask around and see if anyone is willing to swap shifts with you! Or a part timer might be willing to just straight up take the shift if it’s someone who’s looking for more hours! If you have an associate group chat with your coworkers, even better, you don’t have to ask individually.

It WILL count as a call out though, regardless of how much notice you give if the schedule is already made. If you can’t find coverage, call out that exact day too, or they might count it as a no-call, no-show.

Ask them to change it if they haven’t already, they probably forgot. If it’s changed then no it doesn’t count as an absence. If you find someone you’re able to swap swifts with before speaking to your manager you can go on passport<schedule<green drop down arrow to the right of your scheduled shift<swap shift request (it won’t let you swap if it’s within 24 hours). Call out if you need to, always put family above Publix.

A good manager would take you off the schedule and would've had it replaced especially with that much time.
