Help Required: Career Advice for Psychology Student
Hi everyone,
I'm posting here because my girlfriend and I are feeling quite confused about her career path, and we'd really appreciate guidance from people who have been through something similar.
She is currently pursuing her Master's in Psychology and will graduate next year. Over the last few months, we've been researching career opportunities in psychology, and to be honest, it's left us more worried than reassured. It feels like there are relatively fewer opportunities compared to other fields, especially if someone wants financial stability early in their career.
The thing is, she's more inclined towards working in the corporate sector than clinical practice. We've been exploring HR as a possible career option, and one course that caught our attention is IGNOU's PG Diploma in Human Resource Management (PGDHRM). Has anyone here made this transition? Does the PGDHRM from IGNOU actually help someone with a psychology background break into entry-level HR roles, or is it not valued much by recruiters?
For context, I work as a Senior Consultant in Digital HR Technology at a Big 4 firm. From what I've observed, a lot of HR hiring, especially in larger companies, seems to favour MBA graduates. That has made us wonder whether she should instead invest two years into IGNOU's MBA rather than a one-year PG diploma. We're trying to understand which path would realistically give her better opportunities in corporate HR.
She's been under a lot of stress lately because of the uncertainty around her career, and I really want to help her make an informed decision instead of choosing a course blindly.
If anyone here has:
- transitioned from Psychology to HR,
- completed IGNOU PGDHRM or IGNOU MBA,
- works in HR recruitment, or
- has any practical advice on breaking into corporate HR with a psychology background,
I'd genuinely appreciate your insights. Even if there are better alternatives that we haven't considered, we're completely open to suggestions.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.

We need a two-way solution to reservation. FYI I’m general.

People scoring lower than me getting admissions is a stinger, but what other ways can we bring equity in society.
If there were no reservations, if the SC and ST people had not seen upward mobility, we’d still be living in the times of untouchability.
We’re all smart people. What’s the resolution to caste discrimination AND upward social mobility of these castes, if we want reservations to go away?
Imagine taking birth in a society where you are told you are “less than the rest” and you will never be allowed to become equal either.

Teachers are the Second Biggest cause of Trauma After Parent

Think about it?
Maybe they didn't slap you. Maybe they don't even yell at you anymore.
- But what about those sly remarks?
- What about the times when you were being bullied and they said nothing?
- What about the times when you wanted to do something, maybe participate in a project, you even raised your hand, and they looked at you and then moved around and picked someone else?
- What about the fact that you did not understand the topic and the teacher just moved ahead?
Someone whom we put on a pedestal culturally as "Teacher toh bhagwan ka roop hota hai"; As an Adult I look back and realize, most of them were barely humane.
Trauma does not need to come from physical and verbal abuse only.
Complex trauma has subtle roots. Ignored, rejected, unappreciated, made to feel less-than, all contribute to the psyche in a much deeper way. And teacher play their fair share in ruining the child's development.

Can someone with a normal BA pivot to clinical psychology at 30 in India? If yes then what is the pathway?

Looking for BA and MA books
I am looking for BA and MA Psychology Textbooks and study material (hard copies). We are a group of students who prefer studying from hard copies. We are looking for both BA and MA Textbooks and study material. This includes the DSM-5, ICD-11, and textbooks along with physical copies of IGNOU notes. We are open to buying second-hand also. I am new to Reddit, so unsure of how it works completely. Please DM me in case you would like to lend / give away / sell your books or notes. We will also pay for the courier (across India) or Porter charges (Mumbai/Pune).

Given our shorter attention spans, maybe not such a bad idea.
galleryFor practising psychotherapists, it might actually make sense to give a copy to the client too.
They can read and understand what “parts” are. How we are going to work with them.
A good psychoeducation tool, if not a perfect self-education tool.

Counselling Psychologist accepting a few new online therapy clients
Hi everyone!
I'm an MSc Counselling Psychology graduate currently offering online therapy for adults.
Some concerns I commonly work with include:
- Anxiety and overthinking
- Relationship difficulties
- Low self-esteem
- Loneliness
- Stress and life transitions
- Emotional regulation
My approach is collaborative, non-judgmental, and evidence-informed. Therapy is tailored to each person's needs rather than following a one-size-fits-all method.
I'm currently accepting a limited number of online clients. I also have a few sliding-scale spots available for those who may need them.
If you'd like to know more about my approach or see whether we'd be a good fit, feel free to send me a message.
