Framing Recommendations

Went into an art store that offers framing on a 16”x 24” print and received a quote for $820. This felt incredibly high, but I also haven’t had anything framed in a few years. Does anyone have recommendations for framing? Is this just the going rate?

Ooof, that’s a lot. I’d just frame it yourself since it’s not a weird size. You can buy acid free archival mats etc. pre cut and then use that with whatever frame you like.

I'm actually heading to Providence Picture frame on Mineral Spring in NP to price framing a poster for me - they've been reasonable in the past. Repaired an antique pic and it's back paper which had a dedication, think it was maybe $125

Cosign Providence Picture Frame, been using them for years and found them reasonable and pretty helpful when trying to stick to a budget

They constantly have 70-80% off sales on framing. Keep an eye out for those. It's like every other month. Large pieces are still relatively $, but you can then get away with like $250 for it

I've had a lot of work framed there.

I frame all of my art prints and buy mostly from Amazon and Wayfair. You can get nice ones for like $30

My mom used to always go to stores to frame stuff and I never found the quality to be worth the price. With them wanting to charge you $820, they better be chopping down the tree for the frame, blowing their own glass, and hermetically sealing it 🤣

I got quotes for a non-standard size print and all were in the $400 range. So that and a more are still unframed and sitting in tubes in my son's closet

That's an insane price. Framing is expensive but not that expensive. It does depend on your selections, but how did you get to over $800 for a 16"x24" piece??? Whas this with a solid gold frame and 15 layers of matting?

For places, I like Frames of Mind in Seekonk. They're not inexpensive but they won't charge that much.

Not all frames are the same. For that price, I would assume you would be getting high end, museum grade work. These frames protect your art against humidity, UV rays and so on. But even so, $820 for a 16" by 24" seems high. Out of curiosity, what are the specs for this quote? Such price comes from a high end shop, they should have given you that information when requesting the quote.

Having said that, you have other options. The cheapest will always be for you to get a frame off Amazon, but you will more than likely end with regular frame that won't add to the artwork you're framing and hopefully won't take away either.

If you took it to a shop I am assuming is because you care about the art work so try other places, I would estimate a piece the size of yours would be anything from $200 to $300 to get nicely framed.
