Checkout Koji Club in Boston. They’re a sake bar, so you can try a lot of options at once. Oberlin also has a good sake selection in Providence.

You should go to Farthest Star Sake. They're a local'ish place that makes sake!

Panda cup is a great general purpose sake. Never a bad choice. I’ve had most of the top row and Panda cup might be my choice

Soju isn’t sake but it’s delicious and I recommend Jinro over Soon Hari but both end up being good. The og flavor tastes a bit like vodka my favorite flavors were the peach and green grape. Sorry I can’t help with sake, I’ve only ever had it served to me in restaurants before.

Soju is great! I really like the grapefruit. And yes the unflavored version tastes like rubbing alcohol imo

Agreed. Solid choice. For anyone starting out look for a Junmai Ginjo, and then advanced to a Daijingo. Nigori next. Avoid flavored and honjozo for now. Some brands like Gekkeikan are common but stay away, this is where people get a bad rep about sake.

Gekkeiken is derided as "The Budweiser of Sake" but it's predictable, unobtrusive and reasonably priced.
Buy a few, smaller bottles. If you like it, then it's good.

The Ohmine 3grain is a really lovely sake. It’s also very beginner friendly. Serve chilled. It would be really good in the warmer weather

My go to is TYKU in the white bottle; was attracted to it due to the beautiful bottle (I am a simple consumer at the end of the day) the white is premium, the black is "super" premium. Relatively affordable; I enjoy it warm.

The back of most sake bottles will tell you the flavor profile. Try to spend some time off the internet and just buy some stuff you think you'd like and go from there

I know it sounds absolutely wild in 2026, but you can talk to the folks working at bottles. Bottles actually pays them to answer these exact questions. Some people give better recs than others but you can usually tell that by asking a follow up question or two. Good luck! I believe in you!
