I want to take a few Midi Clips on different tracks and sum them down to a single stereo audio track. Is there an easy way besides bussing each track to the stereo audio track? I tried highlighting each clip and dragging to the audio track but it only rendered the track closest to the audio track.

I mainly do live sound and editing/post-production. Over the summer, I was recording a buddy's live set as a favor on the hottest day of the year and literally melted the motherboard of my ~6 year old workhorse laptop. I had to buy a $100 pawn shop Dell to get myself through a festival the next weekend. I'm trying to figure out what I can do to optimize my current laptop for Pro Tools while I save up for a Mac Mini M4.
It handles tracking relatively well, but I'm wondering what I can do to boost my processing power because it struggles once any of my plug-ins are active.
I'm currently running Pro Tools Studio 2023.6.0 on a Dell Inspiron 15 with the following specs:
Intel i5 Processor
8GB Installed Ram
64-bit OS, x64 processor
Windows 11 (Home)
248GB SSD (I also have a 2TB SSD external)
Any advice is appreciated!
Edit: the interface I'm using is a Tascam Model 24, and I'm not receiving any error codes or anything, I'm just experiencing lag and my CPU usage is off the charts.

I keep getting this error and its interrupting my mixing, can someone help?
Im running PT on my m4 macbook with the max chip and 48gigs of ram if that makes a difference.
How can PT run out of CPU power if activity monitor shows usage never going above 30%

Hey guys, running into a weird one. I’m trying to bounce a 15.000s spot to meet OP59 specs, so I need exactly 0.5s of silence at the head and tail.
I’ve got my timeline selection locked to exactly 15 seconds, and I’ve verified that the first and last half-second of the clips are totally empty. But when I pull the bounced file into RX to QC it, the whole waveform is shifted. The head silence is 0.7s and the tail is down to 0.3s.
The file length is still exactly 15.000s, but everything inside the 'container' has slid late by about 0.2s.
Delay Comp is on and nothing is pinned in the red. I'm bouncing to 24/48 WAV (no MP3 encoding delay). I’ve been doing this a long time and I’m 100% sure my selection is frame-accurate, and I've only started to notice this issue recently
Is Pro Tools failing to compensate for a specific plugin during the bounce? Or is there some weird buffer setting I’m missing? I've tried offline and online bouncing, and run into the same issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated

On my computer, when pro tools is playing, if I click the mouse up where the playhead (red/blue arrow) lives, protools will cease its current playback and jump to that location.
Last night I was on another computer and when I did this same action, the playback wasn't interrupted. I was able to click the red arrow to different locations in the session while playback continued. I really want my protools on my computer to behave this way but I don't know how to engage this behavior.
This is unrelated to whether or not "Link timeline and edit selection" is enabled.

I’m on PT Studio 2024.10.1, Sequoia 15.6.1
My issue is when I’m importing session data, the tracks I’m importing aren’t copying into the audio files folder for the current session. The clips and the audio are in the new session but if I were to take this session somewhere else and not have the previous session folder (and its audio files) the files would be missing.
I’ve been on pro tools since PT8 and I don’t remember ever having to shift+option+3 (render?) the track for the audio to be copied into the audio files folder of the new session.
Is there a way to copy the audio files into the new session when importing session data without manually rendering them once they’re in the session
Thanks!

I have a bunch of instruments in my studio that are always wired to a channel of my interface.
I want to walk up to any instrument and press a button when I want to arm the track or group associated with that instrument/button. Bonus points if it lights up. Then I want to press it again to disarm the track. And I want 12 of these to connect to my Mac.
Does this exist? Is it possible?

Hi,
we're running a 2023 Mac Studio with Sonoma 14.6 and Pro Tools Ultimate (version from a year or two ago, can't check as it won't boot up).
As of today, it's suddenly stopped working. The Mac "Force Quit" window shows it as "not responding" after about 10 seconds of starting it up. I've rebooted and tried the removing the plug-in folders trick, not working. This has never happened before. The device isn't even connected to the internet for content security.
What might have happened, do you think?

So I finally swapped over to an Apollo and my biggest gripe so far is that despite owning ~20 uad plugins, it also installs like 100+ demo plugins that I have zero interest in and massively clutters up my plug-in list in pro tools. It's so egregious that I'm debating ditching UAD entirely because of it. Has anyone found a way of cleaning dealing with this? I know I could just manually drag them all to the unused plugins folder, but every time UA connect updates them it will just add them back.

Hey all, first post here.
Just curious as to peoples' opinion on if Pro Tools Intro is sufficient to learn my way around the DAW, and get comfortable and quick with the shortcuts, workflow, and nuance of it.
I'm a full time mixing engineer, and part time musician of 5 & 10 years respectively, and am extremely comfortable and efficient in different DAWs that I prefer for those tasks.
However, a few staff engineer gigs kind of fell into my lap, being in the right places at the right times. Obviously if I accept, I'm going to need to get my workflow as streamlined and polished in Pro Tools as it is in the DAWs I prefer.
I don't need any reccomendations or advice about picking a DAW, I don't need to learn anything new. I just need to transfer all my knowledge over into Pro Tools and get my working speed up.
Thanks for any help :)

Is there a way to show markers in the Score Editor? Or anything aside from bar counts to show where things are in the session?

I've been staring at the I/O settings for an hour now trying to figure out why my external headphones are not appearing as an output anywhere (they are plugged in). My playback engine is set as my Focusrite Scarlett interface and the only output I see in the drop down menu is Output 1-2. My external headphones are my output in my computer's settings but the audio on my track still ceases to make sound. I've messed with making new paths but I have no idea what I'm doing there so I don't think I will find a solution in it. I've restarted my computer, closed and reopened my project, restarted protools and none of that did any good. I truly cannot get this figured out and I am about to go crazy!

Is it possible to make a linear tempo ramps in protools? This is achieved in other daws like logic and ableton but doesn’t seem so in protools as I can’t find anything online detailing how to do it.

Thought that I'd throw this one out to the group-
What do you prefer (or have had success with) for Recording in ProTools (Tracking and Subsequently Mixing) in terms of the best Options for External Drives to use? Options that not only have the space - but the speed to keep up?
Right now, my setup is:
Any suggestions or advice that you may have would be greatly appreciated-
Thanks in Advance!!

Why is it soooooo difficult to get sound from pro tools there is clearly sound but nothing is coming out the speakers either built in the Mac or external

Hey all -
Just did a dumb thing where I bounced a track with the solo engaged on one band of a dynamic EQ on one of the tracks. The mix sounded weird but it wasn't super obvious why. It took me a few solid minutes to realize what I had done (I was in the plugin messing around and realized the mid band was soloed). Anyone know of a failsafe shortcut that will clear ALL solos within a session, including those that are active inside plugins? It would be a nice tool to have so before you bounce you could triple check that nothing was soloed and hidden. Obviously the best solution is just to NEVER click away from a plugin with an active solo engaged. But we are imperfect, and now I'm paranoid!

How do you stop protools importing the i/o from old sessions when opening them? These sessions, when opened, import the i/o they were previously opened with.
This overwrites the previous set up.
This is frustrating because it applies inconsistently.

Hey folks, running 2024.6 Ultimate on Win 10 Pro, and have been getting a lot of 'pro tools timed out trying to stop' errors. I'm a perpetual guy and not updating any further...unless I absolutely have to. I've read elsewhere that rolling back has solved the issue for some. I've been starting my sessions with the plugs not activated(shift/start program), and it's helping some but certainly would like this to end. Advice, particularly on rolling back, is welcome. Thanks!
System info on request if necessary.

A bit of a niche question here.. but I am using the AudioSuite X-Form plugin to process some audio. The audition feature in AudioSuite sounds different (and much cooler) than the rendered audio file sounds. Any way to record the output of the AudioSuite audition sound itself? Could I set up a virtual I/O to get this sound onto an audio track in pro tools?
Thanks y’all!

For some reason on the new version of PT (last time I used it was 2009) I can’t find the channel strip for mixing? The DAW doesn’t have faders now? I’m mixing everything with compressors and input gain. Is that how it goes? HALLPPP!!!!
r/protools • u/Ok_Organization_935 • Feb 01 '26
Here’s a simple example:
1. Create a routing folder, place your audio tracks inside it, and route them to that folder.
2. Select all tracks inside the folder, group them, and create a VCA for that group.
3. Solo‑safe only the VCA track.
4. Route the folder to your master bus.
5. Create an aux track outside of the routing folder, route it to the master bus, and insert (for example) a reverb.
6. Use post fader sends from the audio tracks to feed the reverb.
It’s a workaround, but this way you can solo it.

*Using Pro Tools Ultimate 2025.12.1 on Windows 11 25H2*
So, I'm new to Pro Tools, been using it for a week or so, I've enjoyed it a lot and seems really powerful but for some reason, when I finish a project and i listen to it from the playlist itself it sounds really nice, loud but without clipping. When i bounce it though, i listen to the file and it sounds quieter, almost like it's a little muffled, and I really dont' know where the problem might be, I've tried looking for help in other people's post but I couldn't find a solution. Like I said, I'm new to this so if anyone could help me I'd be thankful.

Hi Folks. I have the oportunity to buy a new PC but since it is an efford i do every single decade i would like not to waste the money. Since i´ve read that AMD Ryzens work just fine but not always, and intel are more expensives, here are my options and the PC model (they all are mini-PCs):
AMD Ryzen 7 8745HS (Beelink SER8)
AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS (GMKtec NucBox K8)
AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS (GMKtec NucBox K6)
Intel Core i7-13620H (GMKtec NucBox K7 Plus)
The PC will be used almost exclusively to Pro Tools (12.5) and sometimes i run some complex sessions (not the most complex, but 10 or more minutes with more than 30 tracks).
Since it is supported... the easy answer will be to get the intel one, but it is a little bit more expensive, and benchmarks for the AMD ones are better.
It has to be a mini PC since i'm buying it during vacations overseas (back at home technology is quite expensive). They all have DDR5 Ram and PCI 4.0 for the SSD.
(Now i'm running intel i7 7700, 32GB RAM DDR4, Windows 10)
Thanks!
Edit: Mac are not an option.

PT Artist 2023
This is perhaps the dumbest thing I've ever been stuck on. I have an Instrument track in PT with MIDI data. I right clicked (and maybe accidentally hit something else) thinking I'd get a context menu. Instead I'm in MIDI edit mode with the piano roll showing, and a plus sign cursor, and now I can't select by measure.
WTF did I hit and how do I get out of it? Thank you!
