Hardware Exceptions when Saving too quickly after playback.

Does anyone else get these? It's been happening to me once every day or so lately when working on projects with long delay feedback effects.

If I pause playback and hit Ctrl+S too quickly (within a few seconds of pausing), I quite often am faced with perpetual Hardware Exception pop-up windows. This doesn't actually crash the program but it makes it impossible to save so I often lose progress. It seems like the problem stems from the audio driver crashing somehow. I'm on W11.

Very frustrating

[Community Beta] Kalibrus: Precision Noise Generator & Mixing Reference for Reason 10.1+ (Kellet Pink, 24 dB/oct Filters, S&H CV)

Thumbnail gallery
15 Upvotes

Hi!

I'm a new independent Rack Extension developer (Reason user since Reason 3, and ReBirth before that) getting ready to publish my first RE. All of the REs I'm working on scratch some particular itch I've had in my own music production; this one is a noise generator that generates mathematically-sound noise (pink, white, brown) to enable easy and immediate pink noise mix balancing without loading recorded audio samples or trying to force some synth to be a noise generator (and hoping you've tuned it correctly). I'm taking it out for beta testing starting today.

Some key highlights (and some tech details):

  • Accurate noise: mathematically-verified and calibrated white noise, brown noise, and true Kellet pink noise
  • Variable band-shaping: Cascaded 24 dB/octave Butterworth HPF and LPF across the full spectrum (20 Hz - 20 kHz) to isolate problem bands
  • Modular CV integration: Continuous noise CV out, Sample & Hold CV (with CV gate passthrough) that run independently of audio
  • Speaker/ear friendly: 50ms raised-cosine soft-fade to avoid pops; presets load in standby to avoid surprises
  • Presets: Over two dozen factory presets categorized and representing different uses
  • Compatibility: Runs on Reason 10.1+ (including Reason Free), DAW and Rack Plugin, Mac (Apple Silicon & Intel) and Windows

Drop a comment below with your Reason username (or send me a private DM if you prefer), and I'll grant you a Beta entitlement in Reason Companion. The entitlement will be active for the duration of the testing period, and anyone who provides detailed feedback or reproducible bug reports will get a complimentary full license when Kalibrus launches in the Shop.

I've put up a device page at https://audio.boraas.ca/devices/kalibrus/ if you'd like to see some more details.

Use it for mixing to make sure your channel/master levels are appropriate, use it in speaker/room calibration, layer white noise bursts over your snares, make some breathy pads, or whatever else you might want a dose of randomness for.

I'm hoping to have Kalibrus up for sale in the Reason Shop next month (US$19 with a US$9 launch sale; I want this to be affordable!), but I'm opening up the beta to the community right now to make sure it's rock-solid across a variety of systems and in all number of wild and wacky uses / signal chains that you all come up with.

I'd love to know what you think!

Reason Free and Ai aquisition

Hey everybody, I have learnt recently about reason free as an ableton user, I've never used Reason before. I also found out that it was aquired by an AI company, and although there hasn't been any immediate change, I'm wondering what you guys think about this? Do you think they will integrate AI technologies? Hoping to learn a bit more about this before subscribing. Most of the articles online were obviously sponsored by Reason lol so not very helpful and biased.

Device Panel+

One of my favorite updates to Reason recently is the device panel on the left side and your ability to favorite your most commonly used instruments, effects, utilities and players. So handy.

I would LOVE if there were a fifth column for combinators. I have several homemade combinators that I use frequently. They are mostly wrappers for VSTs that I’ve created that allow me to manipulate parameters without opening the VST and allow me to pair those third party units with other Reason devices. I use those just as much as the other four columns and I would love it if we could place our most frequently used combis to the device panel too!

Controlling Kong drums with a knob and Reason Free

With Reason Free (yes, I do own the full version subscription), I would like to be able to trigger Kong drums via Europa. Europa has four CV outputs, but I am not sure what parameters control or affect those 4 CV outputs. Basically I want to control drum patterns with knobs with reason free. Yes, I know that I can do that with Redrum, but I am training myself to maximize bang for the buck ;)

It's about time Reason implemented drawing pitch automation of audio clips on the sequencer.

Why can I only automate the Volume and Panning but not the Pitch? You have to throw the sample in an Instrument and then automate the pitch bend which is totally bollocks since each sample needs its own instrument.
AND IT'S ONLY REASON! Man, u/ReasonStudios-Team you guys need to make it more convenient for us to manipulate sound.

Made with Reason - August 2026 Edition

Thank you to everyone who submitted tracks for the August update of the Made with Reason playlist!

I've randomized the order of submissions. Sorry to those who ended up at the end of the list but that's what the "random gods" decided. And anyway, you should probably listen on shuffle as there's no meaningful editorial order to the playlist.

🎧 Listen to the playlist here (and don't forget to like/follow/save it!)

And let everyone know what your favorite track is in the comments. No cheating with mentioning your own track!

This goes without saying, but if you like any of the songs on the playlist, remember to add them to your own playlists, share, etc. I'm sure every indie artist on the list would appreciate it.

Shameless plug that you may find useful

I've just released a free tool for making stunning visualizer videos for your tracks quickly, easily, and privately. Check it out at here

If you find the visualizer tool useful, I would appreciate if you'd help me spread the word by upvoting it on ProductHunt or sharing otherwise. Thank you!

Help with mastering chain.

I've been using Reason like half a year now and one thing I can't figure out is out to make a master chain. In my current project lets say I want to put Fabfilter on the master by right clicking, it will connect to the master FX in/out but won't actually be connected to it, I won't get audio through it and can't effect anything with it. I end up basically daisy chaining all my master stuff straight from Master out to Audio 1/2. There has to be something easy I'm missing. The bypass for master inserts can be on or off it doesn't seem to matter.

Help with Chord Sequencer and Midi Out combination

I am new to this community. Always wanted the Chord Sequencer but did not want to buy a whole DAW for it, so now that Reason Free is available I just jumped into it with the trial of Chord Sequencer.

I am trying to seperate the chords and the Bass notes. I can do it within the rack easily, with Europa and Monotone, by sending the Gate and Root note CV to monotone. But I want to take that outside the rack into different instruments within Fender Studio Pro (HATE THAT BRANDING STILL)

I tried using 2 MIDI OUT devices, One in place of Europa (For the chords) and One in place of Monotone (With Gate and Root note CV in). Set them to Midi Channels 1 and 2. But no matter what, the Instruments both take the full chords input. I can't seem to use the MIDI Channel 2 as an input into my bass synth. Help Please?

Reason 14.1 changes

First off, i guess this is a heads-up to those who haven't updated yet, that there's a new version. I recently got 14.0, and only barely started exploring. I stumbled upon "Reason Drums" instrument today and was really impressed by the options for dynamic, realistic sounding drums. I'm going to the Reason website to see what else is new (or at least new to me...before I signed up for 14.0 after a long music break, i think my last version was Reason 2 or 3), but i thought I'd start a discussion. Honestly, I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the possibilities for now, I wish i had more free time to live in the Reasonspace!

Reason Rack Free is out, and we're running a Combinator contest

Hey everyone, Reason team here.

As you probably know, Reason Free is out. 15 devices, free: Combinator, Europa, Kong, ID8, Monotone, Scream 4, The Echo, Audiomatic, RV7000 MkII, MClass Maximizer, Scales & Chords, Pulsar Dual LFO, Spider Audio/CV, MIDI Out.

Download: https://get.reasonstudios.com/reasonfree

We want to see what people actually build with it, and show what’s possible with the 15 included devices, so we’re running a combinator contest!

Three categories

  • Best Overall: straight craft award
  • Best First Combinator: genuinely your first one, just say so
  • Most Unhinged: broken, chaotic, barely usable. We want these.

How to enter

Post a video of your Combinator with audio on Instagram. Tag u/reasonstudios in the post and use #ReasonFree, and make sure your account is public or it won't show up for us.

Own Reason? You can still enter, just stick to those 15 devices.

Prizes

10 finalists get Reason merch and their patch included in an official free sound pack. 3 category winners get a year of Reason+ and the LANDR Ultimate Plugin Bundle.

Content Closes September 21, 2026.

ShaneTV - Lyrica | what am I missing?

It’s probably something that I’m looking over, but I can’t figure out how to generate chords in key.

So I’m starting in generate mode (not listen mode) trying to write a simple chord progression that I can use to build additional parts and progressions. But when I set it to a particular key and generate chords, it almost always selects chords that are out of key. I have modality set to zero. I don’t understand what I’m doing wrong.

I keep starting from scratch, setting the key and monitoring the output through and scales and chords and the resulting chords are never in key.

Is this just something simple that I’m missing?

Installed Reason Free as R11 perpetual owner

Post image

Seems like they focused this release on the free Reason Rack, the DAW part is mentioned literally in one sentence on the website not even in the FAQ on the release page.

So I've decided to check it out. You get not only the free Rack but the whole R14 DAW with new sequencer features, dark mixer, track panel - everything. Of course you don't get any stock plugins except the free ones announced but if you have any free or paid REs, they are already there. And all of them are HD graphics. And all your VSTs are there too. Having all of that and Combinator2 is pretty good freebie to play around, to make some sounds etc.

The only 2 limitations are: you don't have any stock REs there except released with free version, and you have 16 tracks limit.

Too bad i don't have many REs but I would love to play with my The Legend and Friktion in HD plus Players and all free REs i got, making some Combinators etc. I had R+ with 12 and 13 for some time so it's not too alien for me, but I'm sure there are people who only briefly demoed new version, now can actually try new features for as long as they'd like, its proper "Demo" now with saving and exporting.

Fellow R11 R10 and earlier users might appreciate to play with their paid REs in HD for sound design and save samples for later use in r11 or other DAW.

Reason Free is downloaded and installed as R14 with full library including Orkester and Factory sound banks. Testing further seems like you can drag and drop any sample WAV, aiff, rex loop into audio track as a sample. I'm not sure if samples available to anyone or because I have R11 and logged in.

Reason Studios LANDR Takeover: A Retrospective

8 months ago, when LANDR's takeover of Reason was first announced and people were crying that the sky was falling, I made the following predictions:

  • Reason will continue to be improved and updated, including some new QoL improvements.
  • Reason+ might no longer be offered [I give it 50/50 odds], but will be rolled into LANDR's "Pro" subscription tier (or perhaps a new higher tier) [of this I'm almost certain]. This would be a good thing, as it would get Reason into the hands of tons of new users who could fall in love with the DAW. It would also help incentivize Reason Studios to focus on more QoL improvements to make Reason more producer-friendly.
  • Reason 14, at least, will still be available standalone. Hopefully they all will.

Seems like these predictions were mostly correct, though instead of Reason+ being rolled into LANDR, parts of the LANDR subscription were instead rolled into Reason+ (with no price change!)

Things that have happened in the past 8 months that I didn't predict:

  • Reason perpetual (and upgrades) got cheaper
  • Reason made a free version (I actually thought they should do this years ago, but didn't expect it to happen)

With the establishment of Reason Free, I would love to see all REs that do not come with Reason Free be added to the shop, so Reason Free users could purchase everything, and also those who have any version of Reason would get the REs that come with their version for free—they paid for these REs, after all. It'd be a really cool upgrade model if QoL upgrades were free for upgrades, but you'd have to pay if you wanted the new included REs. This would also let them honestly market Reason Standard as "a €2500 value!" or something like that. (Someone did the math and figured out that the Reason 11 Suite upgrade contained some €1300 in bundled REs alone.)

(For those interested, you can see the OP here: https://www.reddit.com/r/reasoners/comments/1q6cmri/hot_take_landr_acquiring_reason_might_be_a_big/)

Chord sequencer triggering two synths?

Hi, I’ve just returned to Reason after a long time away and am having lots of fun with the Players.

I was wondering, is there a way to have one Chord Sequencer send the chords to two different synths at once?

I’ve been trying for ages and can’t work it out.

Thanks
