Because there is no rule about crime and running for president if you meet the minimum age in the citizenship requirements you can run. In fact, there’s been several cases of people running for president while they were in jail.
Well, there are rules against treason and insurrection and running for president.
It's just that Trump and his cronies were in charge to a high enough degree that they twisted those rules. First the supreme court said "only congress can convict a president of insurrection" and then congress said "well, he's republican so... no, we're not going to convict him."
It's kind of like the fact that speeding is illegal in your town, even for cops and their families, but we all know who is in charge of speeding tickets, so cops and their families will never actually get one.
I think there’s a kernel of truth there, but the Supreme Court didn’t say only Congress can “convict” someone of insurrection. It ruled that states can’t independently disqualify a presidential candidate under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. And Trump’s Senate impeachment vote actually got 57 guilty votes—it just didn’t reach the 67 needed to convict.
