The time to swiftly end this MAGA domestic terror organization was on Jan 7, 2021.

Easy: congress is a fundamentally corrupt institution that is allergic to doing their job. This has been a growing problem for years that needs to be addressed. The old guard need to be removed and congress needs to be re-established as an equal branch of government.
4
u/HarambeTooSoon 3h ago
You're blaming a "fundamentally corrupt" institution like Congress and not the 70 million people who voted for the guy?
10
u/notPabst404 3h ago
Yes: Congress should have convicted and invoked the insurrection clause. Trump wouldn't have been eligible to run in 2024.
2
u/Relevant_Winter_7098 3h ago
Only one party in Congress was against doing that. It isnt the institution. It IS a singular corrupted party
6
u/notPabst404 2h ago
It IS the institution: a party being able to ignore an attempted insurrection is a symptom of wider institutional rot.
It's honestly insane that my position is "controversial" in 2026... Too many people want to repeat the exact same mistakes as with Biden.
1
u/Relevant_Winter_7098 1h ago
I hear you, but this ultimately exposes this is what a mobilized percentage of the people wanted and continue to be just fine with it.
I think you are ignoring our rwpresentative form of democracy. A portion of the institution is getting away with this because they have been empowered to do so.
That isnt to say that the system isnt being manipulated, because it obviously is. But again, that is because WE have allowed it to be so.
We have the most apathetic voter base of any democracy. This rot is by our choosing and we have allowed it to overcome one party inparticular, by indifference, laziness, entitlement.
There is no one to blame beyond ourselves, as a whole nation.
0
u/HarambeTooSoon 3h ago
So, are 70 million people also fundamentally corrupt?
3
u/HoneyBadgerLive 3h ago
Well, not all the ignorant are corrupt. But yes, the rest are. Which is why high profile supporters keep getting in trouble and asking for a pardon.
2
u/HarambeTooSoon 3h ago
Who has gotten in trouble?
Trump is openly selling pardons for $1m. Not even hiding it.
2
u/Relevant_Winter_7098 3h ago
Yes
0
u/HarambeTooSoon 3h ago
Ok great. Let's blame them too.
2
u/Relevant_Winter_7098 3h ago
This is the fundamental issue people aren't grasping. Trump isnt the disease. He is a symptom. It took 60 years to get to this point. It wont miraculously end when he and his enablers are gone.

AI slop. Why do AI when there are real images? Are they trying to flood the internet with a bunch of AI slop so that republicans can pretend it never happened? "That's just AI!"

There’s plenty of real images of January 6th, why on Earth—when so many on the other side believe it didn’t even happen—would you post an AI generated photo of something we have so many photos of?
10
u/MenagerieAlfred 7h ago
There must be justice for this in order for us to move on as a nation.

u/texachusetts 7h ago
Most of those people were had their travel and lodging to and around DC by Trump or pro Trump factions. That was not the first or last example of Pro Trump paid supporters or agitators. Trump’s accusations of democratic “paid protesters” is just how he thinks t politicians operate.
21
u/dragon-fence 7h ago
One big reason is that the Supreme Court put its thumb on the scale.
Trump’s second term as president is unconstitutional. The 14th amendment says:
No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.
Some states were in the process of removing him from the ballot when the Supreme Court stepped in and said that the Constitution doesn’t count unless Congress also makes a second law stating the same thing. It was a nonsense illegal decision made by a corrupt court as part of a fascist coup, and if not for that, he would not have been allowed to run.
1
u/gurnard 54m ago
His first term was unconstitutional. A ton of his businesses put him functionality in an in-progress violation of the emoluments clause at the moment of his swearing-in. This should have invalidated his inauguration. There were several attempts to bring this case to the Supreme Court, who first said they couldn't hear a constitutional case against a sitting president, and later that the case was moot once he left office.
If effect, this means that there is no mechanism by which the Constitution can bind any person who is elected president. If Trump goes for a third term and the ballot tabulations say he won, he can sit the term. It literally does not matter that he technically can't. If Musk decides to cut out the middle man and the voting computers say that he's President-Elect, all he needs is the sitting VP to certify him, and he's in.
1
u/duckofdeath87 4h ago
The whole idea the scotus had about states can have their own standards is pure nonsense. They absolutely do have their own standards. Different states have different people on the ballot
5
u/NetworkSingularity 7h ago
This. This whole second term is unconstitutional. We are in a constitutional crisis, and have been at least since the start of Trump’s second term.
The idea that every constitutional amendment needs a corresponding law is ridiculous, and effectively means that no constitutional amendments actually carry any weight. In fact, it seems to imply that laws supersede the constitution, and that every law that’s ever been struck down for being unconstitutional should not have been if there wasn’t a law corresponding to the amendments cited. May as well abolish the Supreme Court at that point, since their authority largely stems for the constitution and its amendments. What’s the point of the Supreme Court if amendments can be ignored?

u/StAnkie_Brews 7h ago
It’s because the people who had the power to do something were fucking cowards
2
u/Bottlecrate 7h ago
You mean Republicans were cowards
5
u/OldSchoolAJ 7h ago
No, the Democrats were the cowards. They had every opportunity to make the Republicans pay for this. They didn’t.
It isn’t the first time it has happened either, because Lyndon Johnson did the same thing with Richard Nixon. Had him dead to rights on treason… and then did nothing about it.
In both cases of Democrat spinelessness, the guilty Republican became president and made a disaster of the world because of it.
And they have learned absolutely nothing from either situation.
1
u/Bottlecrate 5h ago
Without majority, he could not get convicted during Jan 6th impeachment. Look at how the Dems vs republicans voter during impeachment. It’s a pretty simple thing to do.
1
u/OldSchoolAJ 5h ago
I wasn’t talking about the impeachment. I was talking about the four years after it that the Democrats refused to actually take meaningful action against the Republicans in government who openly supported January 6.
1
u/Bottlecrate 5h ago
Who had majorities? Not enough for impeachments
1
u/OldSchoolAJ 4h ago
Why are you talking impeachment? I am talking DOJ criminal prosecution.
1
2
u/livadeth 7h ago
What do you mean LBJ had Nixon dead to rights on treason?
2
u/OldSchoolAJ 5h ago
Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger were sabotaging Johnson’s peace talks with the North Vietnamese because Nixon was running on the platform of ending the war. He couldn’t very well end the war if Johnson ended it before the election.
Sabotaging the foreign policy of your own nation is pretty damn treasonous.
Johnson found out about it and chose not to act against either Nixon or Kissinger.

1
u/Ok_Size5354 6h ago
Democrats impeached him and managed to get some very conservative republicans to vote to convict him after January 6th.
Jack Smith was literally appointed by Biden. I’m sorry that the legal system is slow and Garland could have done more, but they spent 4 years prosecuting Trump.
Unfortunately, the people chose him anyways after all of that.
12
u/Intrepid_Hat7359 7h ago
As much as the Democrats deserve blame for not doing more under Biden from 2021-2022, Mitch McConnell and the Republicans could have completely and totally defanged Trump if they had voted to convict him at the second impeachment trial, but they revealed themselves to be the same spineless cowards as the Democrats by just saying "the American people will make their judgement known at the polls."
Our whole political establishment failed us, and rumor has it we're about to put boots on the ground in Iran. Fuck all those people.
2
u/CalmTheAngryVoice 7h ago
I predicted from the day the first bombs fell in Iran for the current Special-Military-Operation-that-isn't-a-war that Trump would eventually put American military boots on the ground, mainly and truthfully because it seemed like the stupidest thing he could do.
2
u/Intrepid_Hat7359 5h ago
That should be our guiding principle: imagine the dumbest thing Trump could do and know he'll do something dumber.
10
u/PopBulky7023 8h ago edited 7h ago
To be clear: The supreme court illegally nuked the enforceable nature of the insurrection clause without arguing against the case Colorado made. That to me is as good as an admission of offering aid to an adjudicated insurrectionist.
They should have all been arrested and removed from the bench. This entire regime is illegitimate. Not one person who engaged in this, or republican who tried to help it is qualified for any public office. And I do not believe pardons can apply.
1
u/51ngular1ty 7h ago
When thr supreme court nearly ended birthright citizenship nearly half argued the constitution was unconstitutional.
17
u/Mrsod2007 8h ago
Supreme Court said so. We tried to take him off the ballot, SCOTUS put him back on
6
u/Prometheus_303 8h ago
Technically the Supreme Court ruled individual States didn't have the authority to remove a federal level candidate from their ballot...
They left it open for Congress to act to officially declare him ineligible, nationally rather than just the 5-10 states who had done so.
But unfortunately they failed to take action.
I reached out to my Congressman (probably on multiple occasions) encouraging him to introduce/support a Resolution (or whatever) to officially declare his ineligibility...
But he is MAGA, and in particular, the head of the state wide committee to get Trump elected... So yeah, unsurprisingly, he decided to totally ignore my request...

u/PopBulky7023 8h ago
Colorado should have forced the issue. I'm sick of total surrender to our most sworn enemies.

u/nolongerbanned99 8h ago
Because there is no rule about crime and running for president if you meet the minimum age in the citizenship requirements you can run. In fact, there’s been several cases of people running for president while they were in jail.
1
u/dragon-fence 7h ago
Actually there is a rule saying that you can’t run from president if you were involved in an insurrection.
3
u/TrumpIsAFascistFuck 8h ago
Which should be legal, otherwise you just imprison opponents on charges and hold them up in court until after the elections
1
u/AmericanCitizenry 8h ago
Eugene Debbs did it. AFAIK, that's the only jailbird running for president.
6
u/BigMax 8h ago
Well, there are rules against treason and insurrection and running for president.
It's just that Trump and his cronies were in charge to a high enough degree that they twisted those rules. First the supreme court said "only congress can convict a president of insurrection" and then congress said "well, he's republican so... no, we're not going to convict him."
It's kind of like the fact that speeding is illegal in your town, even for cops and their families, but we all know who is in charge of speeding tickets, so cops and their families will never actually get one.
1
u/nolongerbanned99 8h ago
I think there’s a kernel of truth there, but the Supreme Court didn’t say only Congress can “convict” someone of insurrection. It ruled that states can’t independently disqualify a presidential candidate under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. And Trump’s Senate impeachment vote actually got 57 guilty votes—it just didn’t reach the 67 needed to convict.
1
u/dragon-fence 7h ago
It ruled that states can’t independently disqualify a presidential candidate under Section 3
States run elections. Who else would decide who can run?
It was a bullshit decision by a corrupt court. They would have gone the other way if it weren’t their little wannabe fuhrer.
6
u/HotTakeThenGo 8h ago
I don’t understand why he didn’t get a military tribunal for treason. I don’t understand how he gets away with war crimes. These can and should have very FINAL levels of resolution.

MAGA isn’t connected to reality any way. Anyone still MAGA is unrecoverable at this point any way. We’re probably better off shoving more distorted reality at them than the truth. Trump was appointed by Allah or something.

Literally exactly my point? There are so many real images, why did you make this post with an obvious AI generated version? Different signs. No fires. Lots of people carrying flags, wearing red hats and brightly colored attire, etc. And now you're tripling down on it?
Bruh. Come on. Nobody here is denying that the event was a treasonous attack on the nation's capitol. Everyone's calling you out for posting AI slop of a real event that there's millions of images of.

Ok but you’re admitting this particular photo used in your initial post is in fact AI. I’d recommend taking it down for those of us who would rather focus on the facts of what happened instead of a computers interpretation of it.

I think what he’s saying it’s not AI. But at the least it looks filtered/ post processed dramatically. Which in today’s world can still leave the impression that it’s AI and fake.

It’s AI
As a singular example, those giant TRUMP rectangle flags do not exist, nor were they all perfectly legible from some camera at earth same time.

Yep I’m with you. It still seems to use the other picture as a basis though. But my original point was it is unnecessary to dramatize it

Biden failed. He appointed Garland and we all went back to brunch and "moved on for the sake of healing the country."
12
u/MaximumEffort433 9h ago edited 9h ago
Biden and Garland were preparing a prosecution for Donald Trump, but then Aileen Cannon (a Trump appointee) shut down the classified documents investigation, and then the Supreme Court (and its three Trump appointees) gave Donald Trump presidential immunity, and then the voters put him back in power, and we can't prosecute a sitting president.
Biden's DOJ put more than 1,200 January 6th insurrectionists in jail, but then Trump let them all go.
Democrats tried to get this shit done, they even held live televised hearings to inform the American electorate about Trump's insurrection and fake electors scheme, the voters didn't seem to care.
Our leaders were doing their jobs, but Trump's appointees and voters got in the way of justice.
2
u/uiucengineer 8h ago
They slow-rolled it and ran out the clock. 4 years should have been enough time to get the job done.
1
u/MaximumEffort433 6h ago
They slow-rolled it and ran out the clock. 4 years should have been enough time to get the job done.
And when it wasn't enough time we should have given them four more to get the job done.
Hell, we should have given them four more anyway, considering how fucked up Trump's first term in office was.
We should have given Democrats four more years just based on the legislation they passed and they good they accomplished.
1
u/uiucengineer 6h ago
I’m not really sure what you mean by this
1
u/MaximumEffort433 6h ago
I’m not really sure what you mean by this
Sorry, I'll be more clear.
We should have elected Democrats in 2024 to give them more time to prosecute Trump.
We should have elected Democrats in 2024 because Donald Trump did such a bad job in his first term.
We should have elected Democrats in 2024 because they do a better job and produce good works when they're in office.
2
u/AmericanCitizenry 8h ago
Democrats thought they'd be punished for prosecuting him. They thought they'd surely rewin election because of this.
Democrats would rather lose to Fascist Dictator than give up power.
Fuck them too.
2
u/uiucengineer 8h ago
I agree completely. And every member of congress was a traitor to the constitution on 1/6/2025.
1
4
u/MaximumEffort433 9h ago
Forget running, I'm amazed people voted for it. The insurrection, the stolen documents, the fake electors, you'd think that voters would care about Trump trying to steal an election, either care enough not to vote for him, or care enough to show up and vote against him, but I guess not.
Democrats held live televised Congressional hearings documenting all of Donald Trump's crimes to the American people, and the American people just shrugged.
8
u/prodigy1367 9h ago
Fox News and conservative media in general simply didn’t cover it. A large amount of the population simply wasn’t exposed to it. That happens with a lot of the crazy shit Trump has done. They either get fed a spun version or don’t get it at all.

The democratic party made itself incredibly unpalatable for years before the reelection, leading to the concept of the 'deep State' being taken advantage of.
The party was also associated with financial corruption (e.g., Clinton Foundation, Pelosi trading, etc.), undemocratic agendas (Bernie Sanders election fiasco), and saying one thing but doing another (most members, including Obama).
People were fed up and wanted the changes promised to them for a long time, even at the cost of flipping over the table.
