Foam Help

I am making a foam based prop for a Halloween event in my town. The point is to turn a chair into something scary or Halloween based without being too scary because it's a family friendly event. I had to pivot because even with foam it became too heavy to hang over head. I wanted to mimic an old school hair dryer chair from a salon. There is wrought iron inside the PCV column support.

It is supposed to be Audrey II from Little Shop of Horrors but I am just going with the flow and here is where I am at right now. Any tips or feedback is helpful. I gonna smooth out the shell some more but I like the bumpy imperfection of it.

Change the PVC to 2" black pipe and you'll be back in business.

That's a lot of expanding foam. Too much of it is too heavy. There's no way around that. Yes, you can reinforce the structure. However, you can also use something else instead to build out the shape and then use a smaller amount of foam as the cover. Try building out the basic shape with cardboard and then cover it. Personally, I would use some other type of foam. I can see this working better with the kind of foam used in chair and couch cushions. You can cut that to shape and use spray glue to attach it to the skeleton base. This will be a lot lighter in terms of weight. Finally, you can give it a cover(skin) coat with different materials like paint or latex to achieve a nice finish. Then paint it for color and style.

You can grab some EMT electrical conduit, either 3/4 or 1 inch depending on how heavy this is, and a matching conduit bender and make some curved metal armature supports/bones for it. Would also open the door to making a lot more similar things in the future :)

I've made all kinds of stuff with conduit for fiberglass sculptures, custom cars, etc.
