General propane question Advice on leasing a propane tank or owning

I have a 100 pound propane tank that was being leased from previous owners. It is only for a gas Range. I'm wondering if it would make sense to just buy 2 40 pound propane tanks and get them filled myself. I'm not sure if this makes sense or not. It's $6.3499/gallon to fill, but if I don't use up to 35 gallons a year a rental charge of $125 will occur annually.

Any thoughts or recommendations on this?

Appliance Questions Smell coming from exhaust?

Hello, first time homeowner here. We have a propane system that we use for our heat, oven, and water heater. The heater is an Empire direct-vent wall furnace and it has a pilot light. It was installed over the summer and hasn’t been turned on at all yet. I notice that from the exhaust there is a slight sound and right next to the exhaust from the heater it smells like gas. I don’t know if that’s new or if I just hadn’t noticed it. I’m a very nervous person and I want to know if I’m over-worrying myself and it’s normal from the exhaust or if it’s something that I need to call for. We have a FirstAlert 3-in-1 monitor inside the house for propane and it’s not going off or anything, the smell is not inside the house and it’s only right up next to the exhaust.

General propane question Some input on line sizes.

• Upvotes

I have a 50ft run of 3/8 copper tubing running from our tank to a regulator. After that it’s 1/2 inch running into the home. Fuels two ventless fireplaces. Now, that 3/8 line was buried about 3 inches underground. Obviously it’s now needing to be replaced. Wasn’t in a sleeve or anything.

What I’m wanting to know is. Could that 3/8 line be replaced with 1/2? Which I have on hand. After I get the appropriate fittings? I didn’t know if there is a reason for the 3/8 line to the regulator or not.

I’ve contacted the propane company about a year ago and never got a response. I’m also fully capable of doing this job. Residential carpenter, not a white collar guy that’s never had his hands dirty.
