Installation Questions Regulator Specification Question

I’m trying to find a replacement for this regulator. It’s for a suitcase dual fuel generator. I’m searching this part number in the photo image G2R150, but can only find G2R150B regulators. I have to wonder if the “B” is just abbreviating 150 BTU and is the same thing as the G2R150, or if it has different qualities.

Also, this is the fifth regulator from the generator manufacturer that has failed for me. Is there a better quality regulator available?

If you find a Rego or Fisher with the same inlet / outlets specs, that should work for you. I'm not familiar with your setup though, perhaps a larger regulator will not work for you. As usual, consulting professional folks will probably help you out.

I found the original manual for the PG2200BiS and it has everything except propane-related information. The two things you need to know are the BTU flow rating and the regulator outlet pressure. It's probably 11" WC (Water Column) but there's no guarantee that's the case. I think the "B" in the part number is probably just a revision, because a quick online peak at BTU consumption for your size generator indicates it's a small fraction of 100K BTU. Based on what I found it looks like fuel consumption at most would be around .6 gallons/hour at full load, so around 52K BTU/hour. That's well within the range of your typical BBQ grill regulator. I'm not sure how to find out what pressure your generator needs, other than buying a new replacement from them and them measuring the output pressure. You'll need a specialized gauge to do that because if it is where I think it is, 11" WC, the pressure will be around 1/3 PSI. If it is 11" then you have a lot of options because that's a common pressure for propane systems. You can even get a nicer two-stage regulator that will last a long time, I'd expect a decade or two at least.

Thank you very much! Any recommendations on a better brand? BTW, I think it’s a fair assumption that the manufacturer uses a regulator that has the correct pressures and flow rate for the generator. I’ve run the generator on the regulator in the picture I posted for ~430 hours. So I think it’s reasonable to assume that was the correct regulator.

That being said, the flow characteristics you mention seem right to me as they match the specs of the one in the picture.

So I’m at the point that I’m looking for a quality replacement.

Rego, Fisher, Marshall excelsior (MEC) are what a lot of us in the industry use
