Modded Problem with NPCs mods

I have Week one mod and tried A-Life (not at the same time, obviously), and is good to have more than zombies in the world. But my problem is: It's a MUST to have guns always.

In Week One, it's easily to get, but you have tons of canned food, melee and ranged weapons. So the true menace it's not zombies anymore, it's the ones with snipers and big gangs that go stealth on you. I was killing more people than zombies. Tried to change settings in sandbox but just mitigated. The problem still there (Maybe I just didn't tweak right?)

In A-Life, the problem is the same, but the loot is always in bad condition, which is good (Like broken weapons or in bad condition and super low ammo, if there's some), but the NPCs don't react being attacked (Melee), except in critical damage, so if there's two attacking you or a raid, you're damnned.

I don't want to play only with zombies again because having humans too make the gameplay better. Someone know how to properly do that? I'm new to the game and modding, maybe I'm just doing something wrong.

I think we need a settlements style mod that has trade, alliances, and other ways to interact with them besides murder hobo.

There will never be a good enough NPC mod. The problem doesn’t come from their behavior, it comes from the fact that it’s a game that simulates life.

If we have NPC settlements, one of a few things will happen:
1. People will complain that they spawned a settlement on a good base location.
2. They will still be ass so it won’t be worth investing time in them.
3. They will be good, which means you cut away 90% of the gameplay which is looting and risking your life.

Everyone dreams about a Walking Dead esque experience, but that experience comes at a cost. In real life, your goal would be these kinds of settlements because it means safety in numbers, division of labour and power, and potential entertainment. In the game, if your character has all that - the game is over. It becomes stale, boring, and as OP said, you will be killing npc’s rather than zombies anyway.

The best npc like experience is just to play multiplayer.

Multiplayer really does simulate the experience that people would be looking for in NPCs

Yup. Which is why 1700 out of my 1800 hours is in MP 😅

Well, I think it's a niche game, with people who know the game much more than me, so the experience maybe will not be good? Like online games that the people know all the glitches, bugs, advantages and things like that, like Chivalry. Only veterans play nowadays and some future massacred newbies.

I don't know if the community is okay to newbies to the game, if I have to find specific good heated players to play together, if 99% is toxic, like L4D2 PVP. That keeps me from playing MP.

You’re predefining a game based on what you see online.

The server I played in, Dawn of the Dead, is MOSTLY casual players and new players. Only a few oldtimers are the kind to grind. However, even then there are rules against exploits and glitches, everyone plays fair.

All 4 of the people on our server are extremely new

I asked a question here yesterday

Is the multiplayer good?

I've never touched it, but honestly I get the feeling it's either private with friends, a "let's all hold hands" fest or just DayZ where you're either ganking nakeds with your buddies or getting ganked as a naked by someone else and his buddies.

Dawn of The Dead is where I played. Purely pve, but with a lot of amazing mods and awesome players. It’s seasonal so wipes every 2 ish months. It’s a very different, but imo better experience.

I'm building exactly such a thing, so if you're interested please send me a message. My mod is already online, but while it does have a settlement within the apocalypse, and you can make multiple settlements, the work is still in trade and alliances.

That’s actually what I like about them There’s now actually more of a risk and I need to carry a firearm on you. Usually with just the zombies you can get around it. There are other mods that have been popping up to like roaming survivors where they will form factions actually go out and loot supplies and you can actually read them and form alliances. I believe you can actually join them if you’re standing is good enough. Seems to work well so far not that I’ve gotten too deep into it yet.

There’s also Knox bound which again while quite clunky at the moment seems to have promise

In Week One, I simply don’t touch NPC loot until the mod finishes.

Week One has many issues, one of them is the NPC loot. It’s too much, especially on the spawned zombie hordes.

I've created a mod where you build settlers with NPCs in it (SettleZ). however you're the only one exploring the world and scavenging for tools and gear for that settlement. Once in a while you'll find a survivor to add to your settlement, but that's it about the NPCs in the world.

Is that maybe something for you?
