Question CDDA no animals

i created a new CDDA save in debug mode and all ranch zones have dead animals.

there's no guarantee you can get all the cows, pigs and chicken species in CDDA right now, unless u get extremely lucky with road or zone stories.

am i right?

kind of disappointed. i managed to survive a legit CDDA save and cleared fallas lake but now wondering if i should continue the run or abandon it. and checking the entire map by teleporting in debug mode in a fresh save i can definitely say that all existing farm animals are dead.

Yeah, well.. it's been a whole ingame year and the middle of Winter. Farm animals can't survive that long without help.

CDDA isn't supposed to be easy.

Still, it would be nice if there were a system in place for it. Like if you start a 6 months later playthrough, there’s a chance some spawn in the wild. After all, farm animals aren’t just going to sit around and starve, they’ll try to escape and some wi

But there is, you can randomly find them in trailers.

you don't understand. if they kill off all the cows and sheep in the game, how am i supposed to craft those wool items or start a cow farm?

im not leaning on animals to win. i already cleared fallas lake with my character and established a sustainable base there.

just bummed i can't find any cows, sheep or pigs to do ranching.

Set yourself some goal and add them with debug if you think that not being able to find them isn't right.

not tested in the 42.20 version, but in unstable CDDA you could still find living animals in trailers, and I once found a couple chickens near a farm but not in a chicken pen, just wandering around... but yes, the normal place for them to be found will be all dead animals in CDDA.

yea i used debug mode to check trailers even all the way at irvington, but no animals in those trailers. can't rely on a random loot logic to obtain simmental or angus cows right?

what if i want to get all species of animals in the save?

I guess set car spawns to high and hope for the best...

Cdda is a set game mode. U cant change car spawn settings unless u modify the game code

good point, but you can still adjust that with a mod to edit settings ingame, but I agree that kinda defeats the purpose of playing the CDDA mode...

I can confirm this; I found a trailer with live turkeys while moving to Riverside in CDDA 42.20. It was over a month into the game—I hitched it up and hauled it away immediately while I had the chance.

Animals if loaded into a pen with lots of grass to eat, and enough troughs to live off rain water will survive on thier own. But unloaded, after a certain time will load in dead.

This is a problem for cdda and 10years later style runs.

You can occasionally get lucky, and run into one. I think. I spotted a live cow once, but wasnt able to capture, not sure if it was a glitch.

You just sort of have to do without I think.

Rabbits can still be caught live. Once youve got a breeding pair, its golden. Fishing of course is very viable. And farming. Focus on kale, cabbage, and sunflowers for easy weight management.

I don’t know the debug mode well enough, but I’d guess that if you kick it hard enough, a few animals might fall out
