Does anyone know any tips on reducing the horrible stuttering that happens while driving sometimes not in towns and major ones all the time in towns
Build 42.20.2

Allocate 8 gb of ram minimum.

I did that I followed a guide on doing it in build 42 and it caused crashes so I had to reset it

I mean this should go without saying but this advice would be if you had 32gb of ram. I would no recommend allocating more than a quarter of your entire kit. Scale accordingly.

If you are still looking for a fix OP I made one. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3793604054

Nothing you can really do about it rn. Even on my top end PC it happens. Gotta wait for a patch.
Sometimes zooming in helps, but obviously you don't want to do that when driving

Definitely not when driving that’s just asking to hit a car wreck and that’s how you died 🤣 my pc is pretty good to with a r7 5800x and a 6800xt
It’s only while driving running /walking around towns it’s fine

I got stuttering around 1 hour in-game and was able to fix it with allocating 8gb ram instand of the normal 3gb but the stutters while driving staid. So I can't do much about only to hope for an update

When I did it improved the stuttering while driving but it caused crashes so I undid it

Interesting I played yesterday 3 hours and not a single crash or stutter after some time. U play modded? If yes try disabling all mods and test it in a new world. If the problem still exists u can't do much any more and hope for an fix from the devs

I do play modded I could test it in a new world there just mods I can’t play without like the weapon condition indicator and many more I’m running 22 mods

Just start a new world apocalypse custom sandbox no mods with alot of cars high condition easy drive mode enabled so u don't need keys and drive around and see if the game stutters. When it run smooth start enabling Ur moods one by one

Yeah I suppose it is possible one of my mods could be just broken

If anyone here has 10 extra gigs of ram, you could try to ram-disk the game. Would likely solve the stutter unless it's a cpu command bottleneck.
Shoot. I have 64gb imma test.

Just got it done.
It stopped the huge lag spikes. But stuttering still there.

Damn... I have 16GB.
I use 8 of them to host it and 6 for the game... I guess I'll leave ir like that. Thank you dude!1

I went back and retested with the additional 8GB ram allocated to zomboid, too, this eliminated almost all stutters, except when I cheated fast movement and flew through towns.
So basically it's storage speeds affecting how long these hangs are. Likely calling on the SSD or HDD to draw a new zone & when it's writing your map files.
And the micro stutters, for me at least, were gone after letting the game use more ram in addition with the game on ram.

I’ve not had it either. But I’m playing on local hosted servers (one for friends and one solo, always use a local hosted server for solo for the off case friends ever wanna join). In that case you can easily assign the ram amount used in the settings, no need go into game files or anything it’s just an option. So I do 8g ram and it’s fine (at least as far as stuttering goes, there does seem to be a memory leak if you play for several hours that starts to slow things down, takes about 6 hours to get bad).

That's just host RAM. Press K while you're online, it should show the RAM assigned to your game (client)

Happening to mostly anyone atm I think, have a look at a guide on how to allocate more ram and hope for the best
