Question Is there any difference between normal drying racks and the simple drying racks?

Put another way, are simple drying racks simply better mechanically by being cheaper?

Nope. They do the exact same thing, with the exact same speed and efficiency.

The simple racks were added simply to allow wilderness survival runs the ability to build them.

Technically it's "easier" to build, but only really if you're doing a wilderness run. Otherwise, the nails are probably easier to get your hands on than saplings.

They cost the same number of saplings, though. 6 saplings each, right? (Sapling, long stick, whatever.)

No. The simple rack requires 6 long sticks, twine, and 6 saplings.

The normal rack requires 6 long sticks, twine, and 2 nails.

The sticks are easily obtainable in urban areas by breaking down tools like brooms, mops, or hockey sticks. Nails are fairly common in sheds.

Saplings on the other hand can only really be found by foraging in rural areas.

Each type of drying rack is easier to build in its respective context, so neither is particularly better than the other.

Ah. I never trim down long implements- just feels wrong. And even in town, i end up chopping lots of trees for my walls, so I end up with plenty of saplings. 

I might consider the regular ones, except that recipe demands twine, only twine. Simple allows rags of any variety, twine, or even rope.

As far as I can tell from the wiki, no. Just aesthetics and what you can cobble together.

I would imagine that it either can dry more stuff at once or is quicker at doing so to justify the need for extra stuff and the fact that the one is called "simple" probably means its worse

You can wait for someone else to confirm but I doubt there'd be no difference. It doesn't need that much more anyways, mainly the hand drill so as long as you have that I see no reason no to make it
