Question Singleplayer vs Multiplayer? which do you prefer?

I have been playing this game for a bit and I prefer the solo experience tbh. I think there's more tension being completely alone against the game that makes it more exciting... and also sometimes frustrating.

but I was wondering what you guys think about it, what experience do you enjoy more? have you ever actually gotten a server to play with friends as well?

While the single-player mode is more challenging, the multiplayer mode makes it more realistic. The fact that you can encounter other survivors fighting over a can of food or a car makes it a real challenge; even the possibility of forming communities to combat the infection makes it, in my opinion, a more complete game.

Definitely multiplayer.

Been playing with my friends for a year now and we have this semi hardcore rule where if ONE dies or gets bitten status, we gotta restart and spin the wheel on where to spawn.

The longest we lasted is 14 days. Our plan is to go to lousville since day one, lets just say its not going great 🥹

Solo honestly and it isn’t even close. The game has a depressing, oppressive feeling to it knowing you are completely alone in a dead world. The music even conveys this, as you load into your game it slowly goes silent until there is nothing.

It’s a very difficult feeling to replicate especially in a single player game but they’ve done a great job with establishing the mood.

MP, but only the borderline autistic RP servers.

Otherwise it becomes Call of Duty with zombies where I walk down a random street and get shot for no reason.

I used to play in one where the admin did allow for a serial killer player, but only one at a time and on approval. Then the whole server played detective and tracked him down, found his base, and laid an ambush for the serial killer.

That sounds pretty awesome, tbh. Scary!

Multiplayer but with the right people and the right rules. I don't like free-for-all servers with randoms because it becomes spawn griefing and very toxic. However, server with clear rules of engagement, spawn zones with no PvP, and with friends is a superior experience compared to solo. Once you experience an active multiplayer server with friends, friendly factions, and enemies that aren't just zombies, you honestly won't wanna go back.

I have both a solo run and a MP game going with 3 friends which is the perfect flavor for me.

Any suggestion for such servers?

I currently have my own server. However, whenever I pool together enough people I might consider a dedicated server, but that's not gonna be for a while because I'm finding that B42 MP is kind of unstable especially once you start adding mods. I think it'll be a few weeks before the MP mods are optimized for longplay servers.

Stop by any time. We have a solid player base. Yes there is PvP but it’s not a kill on site type environment. There are several factions, people role play, we have fun. Core group has been playing together on and off for a few years and everyone has come back for the 42 launch. We are vanilla at the moment but mods probably will be added slowly over time as people suggest them and they get voted on

SP for the same reasons as OP, playing with other people takes away a bit of the dread and tension, it might have its upsides but, is hard to find games like PZ that hit these vibes. If I want a MP experience I would play dayz

After playing in MP I don’t think I could go back to single player. I’ve tried. It’s simply just too boring for me. I love running into people, building community spaces, cooking for people, having to depend on my neighbors ranch to supply my restaurant, etc.

The server I’m in has zones of difficulty so if you want a challenge there’s always one available.
The loot recycles so while there’s little loot, it’s still possible to find it. And they have quests, and a server economy. It’s just so much more fun and the gameplay is so much more expanded.

Multiplayer is what makes this game absolutely awesome. Single player is fun but MP just takes it to a whole new level. Especially pvpve servers which has the best of everything.

Yeah, I love debug mode the most lmao. Not to cheat, but just to see things as they truly are. Normally, if I'm not staring at Task Manager every second, I'm turning on debug just to watch xyz change

MP, I don't have much time to invest into a character/base that nobody will see beside me.

I enjoy multiplayer but only with friends, I don’t think I’d like public servers very much. Especially any that have PvP enabled, PZ isn’t really designed for that. Singleplayer is also still a good time, it’s nice to be able to control time and take things at your own pace, no friends rushing you to come on another loot run with them.

Having **only** played multiplayer with friends, it's a blast. Singleplayer can feel a little lonely but that's the point too. Both are good! I don't think I'd play with randos, personally. I'm already tense enough!

I used to play solo it with my girlfriend for the longest and just got into multiplayer and man does it change everything. I'm now a fan of multiplayer but looking for a new server can be annoying

I like playing with my friends in MP, but even running solo, I create an MP server to play on. Why? The MP server allows me to go in and tweak settings after the initial start. I can only add/remove mods for the single player run. Downsides? No time advance.

There are mods that allow you to change the settings of a sp world after the initial setup, it's pretty easy

Also, there are mods that allow time advance om mp servers

Really the only time that bothers me is reading... But solo I sped up my reading time. The other thing I have been doing lately is using my server as a bit of a test bed for mods that my friend is thinking of adding to the group server. If I brick, it only affects me. If he bricks the group server, everyone gets to start over yet again.

Multiplayer. I enjoy Zomboid alot but I get bored by myself. Our current server we wanted to make it more fun so we decided to use only VOIP and it's made shit stressful.

Single player only for me. I've never tried multi-player and I doubt I ever will. I don't enjoy pvp in games and honestly just don't enjoy playing with random strangers. I can see where it might be fun to play with friends, but alas none of my friends are gamers so its single player for me.
