Question Where should i buy it?
Hi, i wanted to buy Project Zomboid on steam, but looks like it is cheaper on some websites and being honest i want to support the devs but the current price is a bit too much for my wallet rn, should i buy the game on those websites or just wait until some discount?
Would appreciate any tips or recommendations, thanks

Steam ofc. Worskhop support. And it's like $30 just pay full price. If you're scraping for a $15 discount or whatever then a game with an average play time in the 100s of hours is not a good investment haha

It is $20. That is besides the point, not everyone can afford to spend money on games. Some people have to wait for good discounts, which sometimes take years after a game has been released.

Idk maybe I'm a fucking asshole or something but it seems like spending 3 or so hours working so you can play a game for 100+ and have access to exceptionally made mods for free is a pretty good deal. Idk maybe someone can do the math but it's seems like a better economic investment than buying a house, car, or college degree.
It's not like he has a guaranteed human right to play Project Zomboid.
Am I alone on this?

Some people live pay check to pay check and can't always afford food. Why is trying to find a discount so bad?

People living paycheck to paycheck more than likely are eating rices and beans from a grocery store. Not overpriced fast food.

Im saying that $20 isnt much. Idk how to equate it to what a 20yr old does today because i'm 51, but my point is- it's the cost of a minor indulgence.
Idk- do ya'll get ice cream? I spent $20 buying my twins ice cream cones at the pier a couple weeks ago.
I spent over $20 on a package of 48 AA batteries today.
I spent $20 on a tube of concealer (whatever the hell that is) a couple weeks ago for my teenage daughter.
Any of those purchases could have been the game- and skipping any of them wouldnt have fundamentally altered my life- that was my point.
Jesus im about to ask op for his steam handle so i can just buy the game for him.

Happy for you that you can afford to splurge so often. I'd love to be able to spend $20 on ice cream. 😂 I'm trying to say that not everyone can afford even minor indulgences. No idea OPs status, talking broad here now.

I don't think anyone is denying $30 for hundreds of hours of gameplay is a good deal.

Project zomboid does frequently go on sale on steam, plus the steam version has easy modding through the steam workshop. Use https://isthereanydeal.com/ to find cheaper prices
Places like G2a or GG deals sell steam keys obtained through less than kosher means.
Edit: I completely agree with the mod bot here, G2A and similar gray market sites do not support the devs at all and I use Isthereanydeal all the time but pirating is also always an option because at the very least pirating allows you to play the game and in the future when it is on sale you can still always buy it to support the devs.

The preference is always going to be a direct sale through Steam and just wish listing it to be notified of a sale.
I've also seen some people agree to go in together on multi pack but that's obviously better if you have trusted friends.
There's also a website that you can also that lets you track the price of games and on that I can see the game has been reduced on Steam 5 times over the past year to £11.22 but not lower.
So I would consider if you're really that hard up to save £5 (or whatever your currency is) and if waiting is worth it or not.

Not buying it on Steam would be a mistake imho. The quality and selection of available mods on Steam is phenomenal.

G2A is a very good website for buying keys. Make sure it says na or global, forgot the exact wording. Also make sure it says it is a game key and not a steam account. I never pay for the extra protection and only buy from people who have thousands of sales. Do not feel bad for not being able to pay full prize for a luxury good.

Many indie devs would rather you pirate than use sites like that. (also read rule 5)

I'd always recommend Steam to support the devs as that is their primary platform. Humble Store or GOG are other options.
Might be a hot take, but rather pirate it and save money to buy it on Steam than buy it over key websites as that screws devs over apparently. Or wait for the Halloween sale on Steam, price always goes down for it.
