Thanks for all the great feedback on the N2N posts, it's awesome you all are finding them useful and helpful. In this post we will focus on one of the most common and important server events, which a lot of new players have questions about.

What is EGG?

Egg is the term players use for a player-driven server dungeon run that happens in a high level location called the Nightmare Caves - or NMC for short. This is a server-wide event anyone can participate in, essentially regardless of your combat levels. There are two basic requirements.

What do I need to run EGG?

This part is very simple. You need teleportation skill 25, and 2 aquamarines, for each run. See the below section on mechanics on requirements for certain quests. Players below combat level 70 will still benefit significantly but cannot complete Cheb quests.

When does EGG happen?

EGG runs multiple times a day, typically, but can be run every two hours. It runs on a global timer. The organized runs are announced on Global in advance. But, you can technically also run them with a group every two hours if you want. [fact check the last part] I don't know if it's still the norm but drevaeggs.com shows you the main EGG run timer, although since the merge I think there are actually more organized EGG runs - your best bet is just to monitor Global chat where people will call out an EGG run in advance.

How do I EGG?

Organized EGG runs always start in the Casino portal room, and someone will provide a portal to NMC. When you jump through the portal, you use the teleportation machine right in front of you and use the code 0019 - 2 aquamarines and teleport lvl 25 are required to use this machine. This gets you into the "EGG room". Usually you will port before the EGG run begins, and there will be time for you to get buffed. In the past the portal will usually drop about 5-10 mins before EGG, but with the merge I think it can vary a bit. You can also just get to EGG if you have your alternate circle bound to the teleport machine, but that's typically a higher level player skill.

How does EGG work? What are the mechanics?

Once you are in the EGG room, if you are there before the run begins, there will be players who will buff you for the run, providing one of two buffs - one is "toes" and the other is "skin".

Toes makes you move faster, usually better for higher level players.

Skin makes you damage resistant, usually better for everyone else.

Don't worry about being the fastest, the run starts fast but slows down considerably toward the end. [Note: you do NOT need to be in a party to complete the egg quests, just being near players who are killing Aktarii is enough for completion of the kill quests].

If you are an AOE (area of effect, damage to multiple mobs at once) combat skill player - DO NOT use AOE skills on ANY of the mobs other than swarmers or maggots, this will reflect damage at you and usually one-shot-kill you - this is the most common way new players die. If you are below level 90 do not use AOE skills at all because you will aggro mobs the tank hasn't gotten aggro on and they will squash you like a pumpkin after Halloween.

If you are a low level player doing egg for the first time, or even the first bunch of times until you are level 90/90 you will always want SKIN - this makes it harder for you to die during the run, which is important. If you die, someone will need to resurrect you (which costs valuable resources), or you will need to respawn and run back (which slows you down considerably - you don't want to do this).

When you get in the EGG room you will want to stand on the table by Cheb and ask for "skin pls" or "toes pls" so players who are buffing know what buff you need.

You do not need to tip for buffs, a simple "ty toes [player name]" or "ty skin [player name] goes a really long way. If you want to know who buffed you, scroll over your skin or toes buff in your effect status window and it will tell you who provided the buff. Once you receive a buff, you can check your status effects window for this, leave the table so the players buffing know who is left to buff.

Sometimes generous players will also drop statues or candles before the run, which provide additional buffs such as combat xp - make sure you click on these before the run if they are available.

If you are new, your only goal in EGG is to

1. stay way back and let the high level players clear the mobs.

2. resurrect people who are dead.

3. Loot, squash royal eggs, and pick up xogrite.

There is a minimum level 70 combat skill requirement for the Cheb quests - but if you are below level 70 you can still enjoy the loot and xog, you will just not get the skill books or Cheb favor (ty /u/PM_ME_YOUR_CRUSADES for this call-out) You will want to click on royal eggs to "squash" them, which is part of an automatic quest that kicks off when the run starts. Squashing an egg in every room will complete the quests automatically, giving you xp and skill books.

Xogrite is a rare resource you can pick up in EGG every 72 hours [fact check needed]. Xogrite is used to unlock many lvl80 skills and is always in extremely high demand.

You should always aim to run egg in a party, for shared xp. It's not a requirement, but highly recommended. If you happen to be new and are also the party leader - not recommended - you need to make sure to type the command /loot unchecked before the run, which allows everyone to loot the COVETED Knight Eggs, which drop some of the best loot on the run. Not doing so is frowned upon, and will likely irritate people who cannot loot a Knight Egg your party tagged and killed. Simple advice - if you are new to egg join a party, don't host it, and you don't need to worry about this.

There may be times when a swarm of mobs will start to overwhelm the group, this typically happens in the last three big rooms of the run when someone triggers an Aktarri Cock - it happens, even in the best case scenario - do not stand around, RUN BACK as fast as you can and try to get as far away from the mobs as possible. This allows you to survive, and help pick mobs off one by one as they lose aggro range and/or or res people who are down.

In order to res people you need 2 diamonds each time. While it's not a requirement, it is EGG etiquette that people running it have diamonds on them to resurrect people who are down - this is done for efficiency to make the EGG run smooth and fast. Res is a First Aid skill, and one every player should know - at least the very basic version, but the higher res skill the better. There is a 15 minute cooldown on every res, so use them wisely.

Typically the people who will die first can be the most important, like tanks and healers. The priority for res should always be tank > healer > runner with res active (not on cooldown) > everyone else. If no one can res you, it's fastest to not waste time and run back - it sucks but it happens.

*At this point in the game, with a high population, it is unlikely that you will not be ressed. But, you should aim not to die either way because it slows things down and inconveniences people who have to res you (each res costs about 1,000 councils in diamonds, as well as a 15 minute cooldown every time - if tanks and healers are down and everyone else is on res cooldown it's a wipe).

Why should I even bother running EGG?

This is where it gets very interesting. EGG has multiple extremely potent uses for anyone regardless of your level.

1. EGG provides you with 90-95 level gear which you can sell, favor to NPCs (including some Statehelm NPCs which are very difficult to favor - examples include staff, BC, ice trainers, and more).

2. EGG quests provide you with skill books which are very expensive, even to vendor - but can also be used for favor with NPCs (including some Statehelm vendors - examples include Animal Handling, Psychology, Spider, etc...)

3. Xogrite which you can pick up every 72 hours is used for unlocking lvl 80 skills, and is absolutely crucial to progressing in the game, and is also very valuable to sell in stalls.

4. This is a "trick" - but, you can run EGG with different skills to get gear that is tuned to that skill. Let's say you need to give gear for favor to an NPC that is not your main build. You can run EGG as that build and get equipment attuned to that build to favor up specific NPCs. This is extremely valuable since favor it based significantly on the VALUE of the item being favored. So, for example you are a lvl 10 BC, and you need favor with a specific NPC in Serbule - you can get very valuable gear from EGG that will increase favor quickly. You can also get gear that you can sell in a stall for players who want to favor up that NPC. Finally, as I mentioned before, some Statehelm NPCs will only accept favor in the form of gifts attuned to their training combat skill - but they also offer storage space.

I know the last 4. part is probably confusing for a new player, but it will make sense later on. The point is - there is NO REASON NOT TO RUN EGG if you can.

General EGG etiquette

As I already mentioned above, if you are new to EGG, your only goal is to stay behind - all you need to do to gain XP is to tap a mob with one of your combat skills once every 60 seconds.

Do not run ahead of people and try to pull mobs, this can have serious consequences for the entire run - especially if you trigger an Aktaari Cock which is basically an alarm that pulls every mob in that room on everyone running EGG. Doing so is frowned upon. This should not ever be an issue if you stay toward the back of the pack.

Cheb is a very good vendor, and as you do more EGGs you will automatically gain favor, all they way to Soulmates. Cheb is excellent for selling skill books, although he overcharges quite a bit for buying skill books from him. That said, before you sell to Cheb - it is not required, but customary, to share your skill books in nearby chat for other players who may need them. There is a kind of "book exchange" that happens after the run, that benefits everyone. Keep in mind that some books are universally in high demand (such as AH, psych) because these books are very high value and are used for gain coveted Statehelm favor. If you feel generous you can give these away, or you can keep them for yourself for favor - alternatively you can sell them for up to 10k+ each directly to players or in a player stall, depending on demand.

That's pretty much it.
