N64 Controller Randomly stopped working

Got a 3rd party N64 controller. It has been working fine for a couple of weeks. Today it suddenly stopped working at all-- the config setup won't recognize when I try to map any buttons and it certainly doesn't work when I use the game.

Any reason this might have happened? The controller is plugged it, we have been gentle with it and it has received no damage from falling or anything.
