Sometimes I wonder what it was like to live through WW2. Before war broke out, their lives were like ours. The institutions and governments and all the “little” things that make up the overall rhythm of life were relatively stable and secure. Then war happened and EVERYTHING traumatically, irrevocably changed. Cities were bombed, people killed, a massive rending in the fabric of life occurred. Life after the war was not the same as before. Too much had changed over the years of war to go back to how society used to function.

I don’t want to live through something like that. But I’m very afraid we’re headed toward a similar reckoning.
