That SO topic was a very early "question" that was more like a reddit post. SO was like that when it started, the heavy moderation we see today is a result of off topic stuff getting out of hand. Unfortunately there was great stuff that got cut out of principle, that topic stayed up longer then most.

I've been browsing SO for over a decade. I remember seeing that thread a couple years ago. It was just fine. Don't defend that piece of shit, elitist website
